American Football = Futuristic Rugby

Real men play Rugby !

I rarely agree with Celldog but today is an exception:up:

American Football isn't just about hitting and tackling. It's a thinking game reguardless of all the stereotypes.

ppl that say ''NFL is for sissy'' dont understand anything about the game. btw I come from a rugby first country and I prefer the NFL (my fav team been the Baltimore Ravens for the NFL and my fav Rugby team been the Natal Sharks for the currie cup and super 14)

So whats with all the over-the-top padding, and before you reply "Duh its for protection" I say that so called protection is actually a hinderance.

rugby is a contact sport
American football is a collision sport. Ive seen far worse hits in American football than rugby and if they didnt have protection there is no way in hell those guys would be walking today .

Yeah, it's like gloved vs. barefist boxing. Bare-fist is alot bloodier and messier, and looks worse, but gloved is actually more dangerous because you can hit harder.

Same thing. In rugby you're more likely to get all bruised, cut, broken noses, etc., as opposed to American Football, where you get concussions. (Before anyone jumps down my throat, I realize that you can get badly hurt in rugby).

We shouldn't have to quAlify "football."

Football is football and everyone knows it's american.

And rugby is ******ed. Like it's players/fans.

^ Agrees with Leto Atrides

Like boxing for example, it has been proven that the gloves and headgear actually do more harm than good.

this is down to a couple of factors.

The surface area is increased as is the weight.

As daft as it sounds, protection isn't as protective as people think.

Gaelic Football .

The fact they're humping each other in the air makes it even more faggy

There's only one football

Are you using the term 'faggy' as an insult ?

Wrong !

Football is reknowned world wide, only Americans call it soccer.

American football is a bit of a misnomer as the feet are hardly used at all.

And as for Rugby players/fans being ******ed could you elaborate please ?

I would think being called a cigarette would be insulting ;)

At least we don't watch that faggy soccer in America.

Are you implying that the worlds most watched sport is either...

A) Homosexual

Or

B) Something to do with cigarettes

Either way this makes no sense ?

There's one name for "american" football, and that is football.
There are two names for soccer, footbal and soccer...football is already taken by a sport with only one name. So by default, you get soccer.

As for the ******ed comment, I was looking for a rise. I just don't like all these "real men play REAL football" in reference to soccer type comments, all these implications that somehow our sport is less than the rest of the world. Because, well, it isn't true. Real football >soccer, rugby, whatever other similar sports out there in name or execution. I was simply responding similarly, though perhaps a bit more harsh/bluntly.
