A remake of the horror/dark comedy 1981 classic "An American Werewolf in London" is in the works it seems.

Bloody Disgusting reports that the original film's writer/director John Landis has apparently sold off remake rights to the property to Dimension Films.

The original followed two American tourists in England are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.

A poorly received sequel, "An American Werewolf in Paris", opened in 1997 to poor reviews and box-office.

I'd like to rant, but I can't. It just doesn't surprise me any more.

An America Werewolf In London goes down as one of my favorite films of all time. The werewolf transformation scene is still creepy as hell and still looks outstanding. There is no way a remake could capture the magic that the first one had. John Landis is the man, and without the man, your left with nothing.

I honestly think this movie is overrated. So personally I dont care...but there have been way too many remakes

I'm game if the transformation isn't done in CGI. If it is.... then it can just go to hell.

God, I was just thinking if it was remade yesterday. The thought of it brought tears to my eyes. Now I need to cry.

What the hell Landis?

Figured they would get around to it. It is almost 30 years old.

Eh, maybe someone will up the ante Dawn of the Dead style.

That's $10 I won't be wasting!

BTW, what did Hollywood do before there were movies to remake?

I don't know why you guys like to harp on remakes so much, some of these films are close to 30 years old, and it's not like they are getting a sequel at this point. and if it wasn't for re-visions, remakes, and sequels, what the hell would the Horror Movie industry be?

Even with CGI they will never, NEVER top the transformation scene. The fact that that looked so real and was made decades ago and it still holds up well today shows how practical effects are still the way to go in most cases, at least with horror films.

This remake has so many things going against it. Either they make it more serious and cut out any bits of comedy that the original had and it turns into another modern horror film that trys to be scary and cool but falls flat on it's face or they go overboard and make it too comical.

I'm an extremely huge Werewolf fan and I think this is one remake I might not ever watch. I'm not going to be one of those crazy fanboys who yells out that people should boycott the film, I just think I'll avoid it since the original still is damn entertaining and holds up to this day as one of the great Werewolf films.

Oh, god. Another one being remade? The original was awesome, but this is just bad news. :facepalm

Why has this to be a remake? Why can't it just be a new standalone Werewolf Movie? The remakes are seriously getting out of control.

I'm not against remakes, I mean, Scarface is a good remake, but man, Nathan is right, too many remakes.

taking from MORE video games?
besides, us old guys like movies the way they are. who are YOU to beg for a remake of cult classics we grew up on? what are ya... 29?:hehe:

Even before a mm of film of this is filmed, I already know that [if this is a straight-up remake] it will fail.

They'll never be able to recreate the unique balance in tone that the 1st film had.

Wait... so American Werewolf in Paris wasn't an attempt at a remake?

Ah, Christ! Another reboot?
ENOUGH! ENOUGH! ENOUGH! ENOUGH! ENOUGH! ENOUGH with the ****ing reboots!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

They actually used their God-given brains, and made new and original films.

People need to stop acting like there was some long period in Hollywood were every film they made was 100% original. Most of the classics we hold so dear had some pre-existing source material, whether they be books are stage plays, etc.

Part of originality and creativity is the ability to take what's come before and put a new (or not so new) spin on it that makes it interesting again. True originality is near impossible to come by anymore, and has been that rare for a very long time (since before Shakespeare even).

it probably won't happen because the Weinsteins are DESPERATE for something right now. They are on the verge of collapsing and Landis just needs the money.
