Amnesty International endorses decriminalization

The resolution recommends that Amnesty International develop a policy that supports the full decriminalization of all aspects of consensual sex work. The policy will also call on states to ensure that sex workers enjoy full and equal legal protection from exploitation, trafficking and violence.

People should be able to do with their bodies what they wish, and consensual sex should not be criminalized. Making it illegal, even if just for clients and pimps like the Nordic Model only serves to marginalize the sex worker.

Unfortunately many people aren't intelligent enough to see this and claim Amnesty International is supporting exploiting women or some crap.

Which is ironic because criminalizing prostitution leads to exploitation because it's not regulated. If the government regulates and taxes it, they can make sure that only consenting adults enter into the trade and that they're disease free.

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions and all those people on their moral high horses condemning it don't understand that it will never go away.

Make a red light zone where people can be protected, tax them and keep them safe. Look at what several European countries have done. It's not a perfect solution but it works better than the usual ****hole everywhere else.

That and maybe people will stop ****shaming every woman for their body once they realize not all sex has to be done in secret and that it's not a 'terrible dirty thing' that the kids much be protected from.

Even the Catholic Church during medieval times recognized that it was better to allow and regulate brothels than to outlaw them entirely. Like it or not humans need an outlet whether to relieve sexual frustration, stress or general emotional pain and there are a lot worse ways than sex to do that. Outlawing just forces it underground where it can't be monitored. It's beyond time to tell the puritans to suck it up and accept this fact. Adults have needs and they will satisfy those needs however they can. I'd rather they satisfy them in a controlled regulated brothel than in an underground black market sex ring that deals in underage sex slaves.

And the puritans need to realize that women and men relying on prostitution for a living will be much safer and healthier if we regulate and monitor prostitution instead of keeping it outlawed on the fringes of society. And for the love of God stop throwing prostitutes in jail. It doesn't help them. In fact it makes it even harder on them and makes them do even more desperate and unsafe things.

Prostitution is going to happen in any society no matter what the law says, so it's better to have it so it can be regulated and those who consent to being involved with the trade can be kept safe.

And does anyone else think it's about time to legalize marijuana and ease up on the war on drugs overall so we can reallocate resources to stopping sex slavery?

I think if you legalized escorts and brothels for prostitutes it would cut into street walkers, pimping and trafficking while bringing in tax revenue for women shelters and health clinics.

I could be wrong but I thought prostitution was a county by county issue so if you live in a county that legalizes it, it's fair game there(see Nevada and 12 counties that allow it)

It would cut into it but it wouldn't affect the black market that much. It would still be cheaper and accessible the same as it is today. Alcohol is legal and people still moonshine. You can't legalize hard drugs period.

I think many people that are disgusting enough to take other people - including and especially children - and force them into sex on the black market against their will would still probably do it, because that would still be a very serious crime even with legalized prostitution, unlike being a low level weed dealer. But I still advocate legalized prostitution, if it leads to safety and demarginalization for those who want to go into the trade on their own will to support themselves.

As for drugs, I don't think hard drugs should be legal, but we need to as a culture look at people that use them less as criminals - unless they ARE criminals that cause harm to others too - and more as people that need help, and we probably don't need as many. And weed should be legal, which would cut down on resources needed to fight the war on drugs severely. Although, of course, the hypothetical street weed dealer I mentioned would still probably breaking the law to a certain degree, because there'd certainly be rules and regulation to distributing legalized weed.

Sure you'd have crack heads offering sex for 20 dollars but most people would prefer a legal and safe environment with more attractive women.

and the bootleg market for alcohol is pretty small nowadays. Especially when compared to when it was illegal.

Keeping hard drugs illegal only makes the black market highly profitable for criminals while society sees no tax revenue. Tax and regulate so people can use drugs that have been sceened for safety while using the tax revenue for education, rehab and health programs.

We need to get over this silly puritanism and be pragmatic.

Just legalize, regulate, and tax prostitution. Bring in that revenue which the government sorely needs (same with the boatloads of $$$ they're missing out on with marijuana), and regulating it would make it safer by weeding out HIV positive prostitutes or those there through coercion.
