Noomi Rapace Starring in Amy Winehouse Biopic
Dave McNary
Film Reporter

Noomi Rapace is in talks to star in an Amy Winehouse biopic with Kirsten Sheridan directing.

Lotus Entertainment will finance, produce and handle international sales at the American Film Market.

Sheridan will direct from her own script. She received an Academy Award nomination along with her sister Naomi Sheridan and father Jim Sheridan for 2002’s “In America.”

CAA and UTA arranged financing and will be co-representing the domestic rights. Maurer and Alixandre Witlin of City Entertainment and Tristan Orpen Lynch of Subotica will produce, with Lotus Entertainment’s Jim Seibel, Bill Johnson, Ara Keshishian and Angus Sutherland on board as executive producers.

Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011, five years after rising to international fame with her “Back to Black” album.

Kirsten Sheridan said: “Amy’s music is felt so deeply by the audience because it was deeply personal. Her vulnerability was her strength. She was called many things — a diva, a lost soul preyed upon by tabloids, a tortured genius; our aim is an innovative, emotional and life-affirming approach as we go through the looking glass into her life and art.”

Rapace is best known for starring in “Prometheus,” along with the Swedish film adaptations of the Millennium series: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.”

Rapace is represented by CAA, Shelley Browning at Magnolia and attorney Howard Fishman at Hirsch Wallerstein. Sheridan is represented by UTA, Schreck, Rose, Dapello & Adams LLP, and Anonymous Content. Maurer and Witlin are represented by attorney J. Frank Stewart.
They say Rapace is in talks to star, but don't specify the role. I can't imagine she'd play Winehouse, though, right?

If she can pull off the accent Winehouse had as well as the singing, could be.

Im a sucker for any bio pic even if most the time they are a bit OTT and cliche. I really enjoy seeing actors portray real life people.

Despite being Swedish, she did a pretty good English accent in Prometheus, so she should be able to get there.

The info in this 9-year-old thread (how time flies!) is obsolete. But a biopic still exists! And now there's a teaser-trailer.

Something feels off with this teaser. Like the energy feels off, and somewhat cheap.
