Action-Adventure Ana de Armas to lead John Wick spin-off 'Ballerina'

View attachment 137171

I’m sorry, I love Keanu Reeves, but I don’t know how anyone can come out of watching Ana de Armas in Knives Out and seriously think she’s a bad or worse actor.

Pretty easily honestly. I have no issues saying that she's comfortably a worse actor than Keanu. She's terrible in Knives Out. That's one of the last roles I'd point to as a role she was good in. No Time to Die or 2049 are films I'd say she's decent in, but even then I still wouldn't put her on Keanu's level.

I would go with my ranking:

John Wick
John Wick Chapter 4
John Wick Chapter 3
John Wick Chapter 2
Ballerina

The 1st movie has maybe the weakest action overall, but I also think it has the best story and how they slowly talk up John's reputation and not only deliver on the promise of it, but exceed it are so well done. The sequels are a bit more excuses for intense action, but I still love them. Ballerina is a good John Wick imitator if you watched all the John Wick movies and want more but are willing to settle on quality not being as high.

Or if you are of a different opinion, Ballerina is, GREAT!

If you thought it was great, that's fine. I thought it was entertaining, but plenty of flaws.

What movie doesn’t have flaws?

Like, I enjoyed it. But most movies at least tend to be a bit more cohesive. This movie was a shamble of obvious editing going on.

Honestly, the big bit of reworking that bugs me isn't the various character disappearing acts, but what they hinted at with Eve's knives, that she had to pick up. Clearly, Wiseman hinting at an action scene that got tossed for a superior Stahleski scene, but I was still intrigued by that character hint.

Perhaps someday Chad or Len will tell us what the knives bit was potentially setting up.

Haven't seen the movie yet but I'm not surprised about the low box office. Times are definitely changing and (with a few specific exceptions here and there) numbers are not as big as they once were pre-pandemic/pre-streaming times.
People aren't showing up... there are too many options at home.

The movie will probably be on Digital by the end of the month. :(

Exactly. The current system isn't doing the theatrical experience any favors. They're gonna have to cut their budgets if they are not willing to extend that window. Not to mention the amount of shows and movies and series and YouTube channels and things that are available to watch at home. The industry is shooting itself in the foot.

The pandemic just hastened the streaming race, and the industry, in such a quick need to catch up, slowly brought about soon audiences change their viewing habits.

Even big budget blockbusters this year like Jurassic World, Superman, and Fantastic Four- sure, they may do fine, but you know some families are out there thinking 'I can just watch them at home in a few months for free. Why spend the extra money?'

But that’s not really happening in terms of films people want to see. Yes, there’s less of them that really break out but you have your Minecraft and Lilo and Stitch that are about to cross a billion. Families will come out to what they really want to see. They’re just choosier.

As a pretty big John Wick fan - I was hesitant at best due to Len Wiseman.

But, production issues aside - this film delivered and was an absolute blast. Shame it's doing financially so poorly, but I'm more than happy if this is a one-and-done.

Worthy of the series.
