I thought they were trying to move away from the emo crying every 5 seconds kinda thing but he still feels very emo.
He cried over his Uncle's death and the death of Capt Stacy. I know you're exaggerrating in your comment but imo there's nothing wrong with showing some emotion over that type of loss.
I'm kinda bummed that Peter's smart-ass quippy side is never displayed in these movies.
"A cop?! You seriously think I'm a cop?! A cop in skin tight red and blue...you're a real scholar...I was going more for the guys who do the luge."
The smart ass was there. It was backed by an attitude though and that was due to Peter acting vengeful looking for his Uncle's killer.
The quipping existed in ASM, they just need to go further with it in the sequel. And it's not so much about Spidey telling one joke after another as it is about him being verbal. In the comics, Spidey was always making some kind of a comment. He started to get that swashbuckling attitude though as the movie progressed and make those joke-y type remarks, as was seen in the high school fight.
I mean they tried a little in ASM, but it always comes across as hurt and angry-emotional and not sarcastic and funny.
I thought the opposite. The whole red and blue skin tight comment and the comment about being afraid of small knives was spot on Spidey. It was total sarcasm. There was some attitude there too as I said, but that's due to him being in vigilante mode.
As long as they take the ideas that were present in ASM, push them a little further and have him veer more towards the swashbuckling attitude, I think we'll get to see an even more verbal and hilarious version.
