The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Andrew Garfield IS Spider-Man!

I thought they were trying to move away from the emo crying every 5 seconds kinda thing but he still feels very emo.

He cried over his Uncle's death and the death of Capt Stacy. I know you're exaggerrating in your comment but imo there's nothing wrong with showing some emotion over that type of loss.

I'm kinda bummed that Peter's smart-ass quippy side is never displayed in these movies.

"A cop?! You seriously think I'm a cop?! A cop in skin tight red and blue...you're a real scholar...I was going more for the guys who do the luge."

The smart ass was there. It was backed by an attitude though and that was due to Peter acting vengeful looking for his Uncle's killer.

The quipping existed in ASM, they just need to go further with it in the sequel. And it's not so much about Spidey telling one joke after another as it is about him being verbal. In the comics, Spidey was always making some kind of a comment. He started to get that swashbuckling attitude though as the movie progressed and make those joke-y type remarks, as was seen in the high school fight.

I mean they tried a little in ASM, but it always comes across as hurt and angry-emotional and not sarcastic and funny.

I thought the opposite. The whole red and blue skin tight comment and the comment about being afraid of small knives was spot on Spidey. It was total sarcasm. There was some attitude there too as I said, but that's due to him being in vigilante mode.

As long as they take the ideas that were present in ASM, push them a little further and have him veer more towards the swashbuckling attitude, I think we'll get to see an even more verbal and hilarious version.

i loved the high school fight and how he kept talking and the "UH Oh Somebodies been a bad Lizard." has me laughing esp with the kicked in classical music that reminded me of the opera TSSM episode made me laugh all the more so I was sold on Garfield right when he was announced.

i was reading captain marvel the other day and nearly fell off my chair with how much peter looks like andrew here. especially on that first panel of him upside down.

I thought the same thing when I first read that comic.

On a side note, I just love Captain Marvel's rapport with Spidey in the current books. Especially in that two-part Avenging Spider-Man crossover DeConnick wrote last year.

Did that comic come after TASM? Because if it did, Peter here is pretty obviously modeled after Andrew. Also, the costume has the grid-pattern webbing that was in the TASM costume

It's always cool when they start modelling a character on an actor, it is sort of solidifying their look in the movie universe. They did that when they used Chris Reeve's look in Superman: Secret Origin, they based his look on him.

Garfield is going to be the face of Spidey for a long time.

I sure hope so. :yay:

I mean if he's doing all 4 TASM movies, he will be. That's like 2012-2018. One more year than Tobey's run. And Tobey never ended up doing a fourth one.

In addition, I think it's safe to say people are still pretty fresh with Garfield. I think some people still don't even know who he is. If TASM2 is a HUGE hit, and does good, word of mouth and everything, that will be the mark where people will start to staple Garfield as Spidey in their minds.

Which he rightfully deserves, people just continue to bash on him yet know nothing and that's the sad part, to me he's pretty much the definitive Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he looks very comfortable in the role now from my observation of set pics and vids.

Yeah, it came out the same month as TASM, like a week after or something. The artist (Dexter Soy) would've definitely known Andrew was the movie Spidey whenever he started working on it.

Still, if he is indeed modeling it on Andrew like he appears to be, I think it works much better than how Gary Frank draws Superman modeled on Chris Reeve. I hated the art in Secret Origin, tbh.

Aw. I'm about to read that next haha.

I'll admit I'm not a fan of it in general. It had some nice moments, but overall, I found Birthright to be the far superior "modern origin" for Supes.

I see. Thanks. I'm looking forward to it, as a decent amount of peeps recommend it over at the MOS thread. I read Birthright twice. I think it's better the second time around. I give it maybe a 7.8-8/10. I think the setup is done really well, and him becoming Supes is cool, and of course his debut. But once AFTER Lex's origin is done, it lags a bit, and some of the final metropolis battle's action is anti-climatic and rushed. And I still don't get the last page! Haha. But it's an enjoyable read. Sorry, lets leave this for the Supes thread.

Birthright is the definitive Superman origin to me.

And Andrew as Peter/Spidey is also perfection. Magneto would agree.

Fair enough, I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts after you finish Secret Origin if you feel like sharing. :yay:

I will. :yay: Definitely be a comparison.
Plan to read All Star Superman right after. Now I know there's no complaints there haha.

Oh definitely not. All-Star is glorious.

So there isn't anything to cry over? His uncle's death? Captain Stacy, who helped, ended up respecting Peter's deeds, and died in front of his eyes?

Pretty sure that's not a coincidence. The suit has some very obvious TASM suit inspiration too.

I like that he mixed up his distraught behavior. Uncle Ben he was sobbing and filled with dread and sorrow and regret. With Captain Stacy he was angry with himself and Connors and he screams in frustration and anguish.

Then there's Tobey:

I've always said I'd be looking forward to his performance.

I want murderous. I want him to immediately stand from her body, take the goblin's throat in his hand and beat mercilessly. Tears come later.
