Which one is the best and how many are they and what are their names?

There are pretty much two animated X-men cartoons. The first is commonly called TAS (the animated series) and had a ton of episodes. 50 maybe? Maybe more. It came out in the 80's.

The second is X-men Evolution which came out not long after the first movie. It had five seasons and about 30 or so episodes. Most folks like both, some like one or the other. I like both. :)

The shows varied in quality. This is TAS Gambit:

This is Evolution Gambit :

There are 76 episodes of the original X-Men animated series and they should all be put on DVD as soon as possible.

TAS Gambit is my hero! Remember that Slave Island episode? That's the oldschool Jim Lee/Claremont Gambit right there. Evo Gambit was good but the characters on TAS were much better.

Thanks!

Do both have like the same content, stories?
No, very different content and stories.

The original TAS series tends to stick more to the comics, exploring storylines tackled in the comics, including a lot of the more cosmic stuff. A greater degree of time is devoted to other worlds than ours.

Evolution is the more grounded series. All the mutants bar the Professor, Storm, Beast, Wolverine, Magneto and Mystique are teenagers. The world doesn't know of mutants until the end of season two, so before that point, they attempt to keep their identities a secret.

Evolution has Nightcrawler as a main character, but not Gambit until later seasons, as a bad guy. TAS has Gambit as a main character, with the X-Men, and Nightcrawler only as a guest character.

Buying them? Is TAS on DVD? Is Evolution on DVD??

By the way, TAS didn't start until '93, and Evo was only 4 seasons.

The original series began in '92 according to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103584/

And I really like Evolution... yes, it's oversimplified and the animation is really childish, but it's fun.
The still frames of the original series are better, but I find it to be a bit choppy compared to the hybrid computer/cel animation stuff that's out now.
