Boy dies after Disney roller coaster ride

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - A 12-year-old boy died after riding a roller coaster Thursday at the Disney MGM theme park, the Orange County sheriff's office said.

The boy died after he was brought by ambulance to a hospital at about 11:30 a.m., a Disney statement said. The cause of death was not immediately known, Sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said.

Park officials closed the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster but said a preliminary investigation showed the ride was operating normally.

A Disney Web site description of the ride says: "Zoom from 0-60 mph with the force of a supersonic F-14, take in high-speed loops and turns synchronized to a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack."

Two other people have died after going on another Disney ride, Epcot's "Mission: Space." The space simulator spins riders in a centrifuge that subjects them to twice the normal force of gravity.

Daudi Bamuwamye, 4, of Sellersville, Pa., died June 13, 2005. An autopsy determined he died of an irregular heartbeat linked to an abnormal thickening of the heart muscle that can cause sudden death.

In April, a 49-year-old woman from Germany became ill and died after taking the ride. A medical examiner's report said she died from bleeding of the brain and had severe high blood pressure.

The ride has signs warning people with heart, back and neck problems not to ride. Epcot now offers a tamer version of the ride that does not include centrifugal force.

Disney MGM is among the Walt Disney Co.'s four parks in Florida.

People really need to read signs.

Besides, the Rock 'n Roller Coaster doesn't go that fast. I'm sure the boy had a problem already.

If it was a previously unknown condition that sucks, but it probably wasn't the fault of the ride.

4 year old children should not be allowed on rollercoasters! Go on the teacups for god sakes. I was never allowed on the coasters until I was like 13, and had discovered I don't have heart problems!

Pretty much every Disney death is negligence on the victim's part; not the park's.

Disney Policy?

Wash off the blood, start up the ride again.

I was thinking that too. Mission Space is the most hardcore ride in the whole park, why would you take your 4-year-old on it? I wouldn't take a 4-year-old on Goofy's Barnstormer, let alone this.

I almost died on a teacup ride when I was 6 :(

the little swing door thing flung open, and I was sliding out of my belt :( :(

Disney rides are evil. Just look at it's a small world, I'm sure the government were just testing it as a new method of torture :o

The dead get a free picture with Mickey!

Disney is it's own community onto itself with it's own laws. With enough hush money, for this case never to see the courts.

Disney has a lot of rides where they take your picture while you are on the ride. It would be cool to get a picture of yourself flying off a ride and falling to your death. Your family could get one of those cute souvenir frames to put it in.

strange..you do know your going to hell right!::::::::)

It'd be quite ironic if it's a novely frame that said "I survived Splash Mountain".

i smell a photoshop opertunity...

In real life I hate to see anyone die, but there's something so beautiful about violent death, in The Magic Kingdom, all in the name of "amusement", with giant, frozen-faced Mickey, Donald, Dopey, and hot-ass Snow White running around in a panic outside with blood all over the fellow vacationers who sat behind.

I prefer the ones like the kid who climbed up on the monorail tracks and was diced. Lol

Don't get all logic-y and stuff, 'cuz that kind of thing don't fly amongst the flags of the Magic Kingdom, buster!

jag

Maybe the kid was chunky/husky/big-boned...:(

p.s. Aerosmith "specially" recording music for a Disney ride is pretty un-cool. Not "Page+Puff" un-cool, but still...

It's why they have their own police force....

Dying at Disney World is better than dying during sex
