Universal, Parisot Remaking Slap Shot
Source: Variety
February 2, 2009

Universal Pictures has set Dean Parisot (Fun With Dick and Jane) to direct a remake of the 1977 hockey comedy classic Slap Shot.

Peter Steinfeld ("21") is writing the script; Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.

The original starred Paul Newman as the fading player/coach of a minor league hockey team. Trying to hype the Charlestown Chiefs for a possible move South, the coach ramps up interest by turning his team into a group of brawling thugs/

Kennedy and Marshall give it some hope but really? The two direct to DVD sequels must have done decently.

All these remakes are so damn depressing :(

The end is nigh!

this is the one that i hoped that they wouldn't remake.
It's so unPC; that alone makes this a uphill struggle as a remake.

A sports remake? Okay, that's still fresh. We won't have to wait for Mighty Ducks: the Geriatric Years.

This will probably turn out similar to the Bad News Bears remake

a remake of slap shot could actually be a worthy remake, if done well. it probably wont be done well though.

If they ever remake "Hoosiers" or "Major League" I'm never going to see another Hollywood movie again.

Well Bollywood copies all the Hollywood movies so you'll still get your fix.

that's the thing - I mean, i just feel like they're just remaking it just to 'update' it, which doesn't mean it'll be a great movie either.

I think Ocean's 11 (the first one) was a great remake. The Thing too. But here..I don't know.

What the hell is up with all these unessacary remakes this past week?

As a former Ice Hockey player this is kinda like a second Stanely Cup, it is so precious too me. Please Universal, see the light and know this is wrong.
