i think you should leave the repressed anger to Darkhawk. it's more fitting with his character than someone like Speedball. otherwise, cool. i'll have more commentage later. :)
That's fine. My reasoning on Speedball is because he's typically stereotyped as "the jokester" of the New Warriors. The sort of bouncy, fun guy who tells a wisecrack and no one expects to have a temper or that sort of thing. While I'm not saying I'd make him a surly, brooding vigilante like Darkhawk would be (always on the verge of a nervous breakdown), but I would want to explore Speedball beyond the wisecracking stereotype. Stuff like being clumsy with women has been done, but how about when the "funny guy" snaps? It's just a story idea and the situation doesn't come lightly for Speedball; my idea revolved around a serial killer (an original character of mine, I hope) manages to hit close to home with a victim he knows, and when he confronts the guy, all of a sudden the "funny guy" reveals he can have a temper, too, like everyone else, given a situation. I actually liken Speedball to a young Spider-Man, and Spider-Man is a very emotional character, beyond just witty banter. Let's explore that.

I like that idea with the remaining Slingers going after Wolvie. Thats a damn good way to shed light on that particular type of hypocrocy within the hero community.

just once, i'd like to see a true hero (not a punisher type) consciously choose to go over the edge to avenge someone. i think Jack of Hearts did something similar but the wrong lesson was learned from it, imo. if Prodigy or whoever were to go after Wolverine, i think they should do it after ditching the costume to acknowledge that there are actions that heroes don't take.

I liked this idea too. ;) And I do believe that "older" superheroes do have a sort of "protect their own" sort of thing, just because Marvel is less of a shared community than DC is, you rarely see it. But it makes sense. Wolverine takes out SHIELD agents, kills Hornet and attacks a slew of other heroes, yet as soon as it's revealed that, "oh, he was brainwashed for the 3rd or 4th time", he's added to the Avengers roster? Or how about Hulk, a walking natural disaster that yet no heroes have "put away" for good like the Wrecking Crew or something? Not all this stuff can be answered with a black/white answer, which is the point. These are supposed to be the "next generation". Hence, they need to aknowledge all of these issues, the strengths and flaws of the older heroes, and decide what to adopt and what to improve upon.

Dusk and Prodigy would definately be keeping their costumes while fighting Wolverine. The way they figure, they WANT to act as heroes; Hornet was a superhero and "one of them", and that's why they're fighting Logan. Secondly, it's not like it'd hurt their PR any; virtually every superhero has publicly battled Wolverine. Hulk, Spider-Man, DD, Iron Fist, Capt. America, Thing/Fantastic Four, I could go on. The way the pair see it, if a member of the Avengers were killed, would Cap & Iron Man shed their costumes if they wanted to take the guy out? That's debateable, isn't it? I do recall Cap not shedding his outfit when he sought to avenge Bucky's "death" at the hands of Baron Zemo. True, Zemo died partly due to his own actions, but Cap never shed a tear over it; in fact, he contributed to the death! Of course, these younger heroes, especially Squirrel Girl, could likely relate to the anger of losing someone and feeling "no one cares because he wasn't a big shot", and could get through to them.

And now for yet ANOTHER idea from me. See how many I have? And trust me, these are only ideas that fit the topic title! They're not, say, general Spider-Man fan-fic ideas or something (I also have a Taskmaster/Mystique thriller idea).

"How would Dread do..."

Frogman: As in "The Fabulous" Frogman. I must admit that I came up with this idea about 2 years ago at least, but after Dan Slott's recent work in Marvel (She-Hulk, GLA), it is going to seem MUCH lamer and less original than it would have beforehand. Oh, well.

To start off with, while another "lame" teenage hero, Squirrel Girl, is one I planned to take seriously (sort of) in another idea, right off, Frogman is not meant to be completely serious. The idea was for it to try to capture some of the adventure/slapstick appeal of Lupin The Third anime. The few who know of it may get the idea.

The Frogman idea is basically an adventure parody, and pretty much runs with what we could call a "relaunch" or "revamp". Eugene Paul Colorito Patilo (whatta mouthful) is still the son of the villianous but lame Leapfrog, and he has aged to that of an older youth, 21. Since his time in limbo, he has gone through major changes. He won second prize in the lottery, but unfortunately, he quickly spent all of the money on his make-over. He dropped at least 50 lbs and went to the Orient, tracking down the one man who knows "Frog style" kung fu (there is a style for every animal). He gets some cosmetic surgery done and is now a bit lean (Spider-Man lean). And lastly, while he retains some of his old gadgets, Eugene decided that there are just too many superheroes in this 'burg for him to have much success at being one, so he decides to be a private investigator, who naturally will become involved in some super-efforts.

In terms of costume, he no longer wears one. He has his specialized "electric leaping coils" that allowed him to leap amazing distances installed in boots. He wears a green jacket and clothes, even has his hair a shade of spikey green now, and shades. He carries a "tongue whip", which is a whip that is colored like a frog's tongue, that is elastic and able to reach long distances and stick to surfaces at the tip, for swinging/disarming manuvers. He drives a green car he calls a "Frogmobile", and various "frog-themed gadgets". From a Tranq-Gun that has Poisonous Frog-Serum (from African frogs), to "Frog Gas" (putrid, made from many burned, dead frogs), you name it, he has a frog-themed weapon somewhere, colored green and with his trademark. The purpose is, of course, to mock Batman and other heroes who have gadgets for everything. He changes his monniker to Paul Patilo, a.k.a. Frogman, and with the Sensational Spider-Kid as his tech-maker and contact, he naturally goes off on cases that usually involve other D-Listers. As for supporting cast, the only one so far was fellow P.I. Dakota North, whom Frogman mocks because her name is "North Dakota" backwards, yet is attracted to.

He's a nerd trying to make up for lost time, so he's a bit horny. And while this is a parody series, Frogman also uses some of the ridiculousness of his universe to his advantage. For example, if a villian literally explains their powers to him, Froggie would say, "Thanks a lot!" and use it to defeat them. The main point would actually be that Frogman actually has become capable enough to fight people.

The series would pretty much be strings of cases strung along with a few reoccuring characters.

The first one involved a mock Playboy mansion, Silvermane the Geezer Cyborg (and his Maggia cronies, Hammerhead and Man Mountain Marko, now calling himself "Triple M"), a new Rose, White Rabbit and Walrus (of course) and some other crime figures in the search of missing amulet.

The second involved Frogman sent to find a teenage girl, who has been turned into a vampire against her will, and now has Blade insessently stalking her and wishing to stake her. Froggie must keep her around, figure out a way to revert her to normal, and keep from being taken out by the overbaring Blade. The running joke would be that constant titles of Wesley Snipes movies would be used as dialogue.

Another involved Froggie becoming involved with The Hypno Hustler, who now wants to mind-control people with legitimate music on sale. Only now, he's embraced the rap style as "H.H. Diddy Hust", which, of course, climaxes in a bizarre dance number and lesiure suits.

Another involved some plot that led to the Hellfire Club, only because a gang of British mutants that dress in colonial wear really can't be taken seriously all the time.

And the last idea involved the alliance of Mangaverse Spider-Man, NFL Superpro, Slapstick, TEAM America and so on as....The Fadz.

Truly a bizarre idea. But there it is.

I got a few more ideas that i've been rolling around in my head. Thought I'd bump this up so when I finally get them in more detail I'd have a place to put them.

I was thinking about Doug Ramesy the other day. You know? The mutant who could...speak any language? (I mean, WTF was that about?) I think he could be brought back, only, you know, more useful. Having spent so much time bonded to Warlock, I figure, Machine Telepathy? ABility to control machines or something like that. Just a thought.

I also had a more in-depth reworking of Wonder Woman. First off, the suit should change. Loose the US flag. Though I have always loved the design, cuz, you know, she's hot. Maybe more of a greek influence to the uniform. I also thought about changing the nature of the WW mantle. Where as it's handed down throughout the generations of the Amazons. There was a Wonder Woman back in ancient Greece. There was present during the fall of Rome. One in WWI and WWII. Kinda like Alan Moore's Promethea.

Paradise Island would be located in the area of the Greek Isles. Kept apart from the world with a spell, blinding it from the eyes of outsiders. In terms of personality, I kinda purfer the current way she's being handled by Rucka. (If you haven't been reading it I highly recommend it. ) The problem with WW has always been the way they manhandled her origin after the Crisis. (Her mom, inspired by her daughters work went back in time and became the Golden Age Wonder Woman?!?! WTF?) Now if there were others, or say her mom was WW before her, then that would be better. Instead of this chicken before the egg thing they got going on now. I did also like the Ultimate WW idea they had in Wizard last year. Where she was a spy, making preparations for the Amazon's invasion of patriarcs world. But I would make so, no one knows her true origins. She just seems to the public like a hero taking on a patriotic stance, but her true intensions are to prepare the man's world for invasion. But of course, after spending time her, (and falling for Trevor) she decides to go agianst the Amazon's, making an enemy out of all she has ever known. But thats a bit extreem. Would make a nice elseworlds I think.

I was thinking of Dr. Strange the other day. He is the Sorceror Supreme of our reality and yet few readers know of his full capabilities. Strange is the one book that you dont have to do superhero stories. This guy is supposed to be guarding our dimension and all he seems to do is sit in his home thinking or jumping into someone elses troubles. I'd like to think that talking to Steven Strange is a lesson in frustration. His mystic senses are always watching the dimensional outskirts. He never pays attention to anyone entirely. I imagine he is aloof like Gandalf is from LOTR. You never know what is on his mind..and a lot of times you dont want to. He is a guy who can just walk into Heaven or Hell to chat with God or Mephisto. He goes into the timestream to vacation. He travels to Olympus for Dionysus famous parties. You TIVO television shows....he TIVO's our dimension. Always around when something major is going down.
This is how I see Doctor Strange

i imagine him being more like Sherlock Holmes; an all-knowing prick. and i like this look for him...

i wish that he had adventures like Dr. Who. he needs a more exciting supporting cast. Wong and Clea aren't cutting it; alone imo. maybe if they Buffy'ed his book out, it could be Strange as a more arrogant version of Giles and throw in Nighthawk and Hellcat for good measure.

we're re-working DC in this thread now? i'd just leave all of those changes to Princess Zarda from Supreme Power. :)

Well, I didn't think there was a need to make a new thread in the DC forums just for this one thing. For the most part, I don't have a problem with most of the DC characters. Don't really have a problem with WW with the exception of her Origin. I may take a stab at Plastic Man later. Though I haven't been reading Kyle Baker's Plas book. Seemed to cartoony to explore Plas with any depth. I mean, I thought the whole dead beat dad angle they had for him in JLA was a great development. Of course they could have in the latest series. I may have to ask somebody if they did before I comment on it.

If we're talking DC...

I'd make Green Lantern a goth artist

Superman would be Super Man (Derived from old kryptonian language that his name "Kal El" comes from). I would also harp more on the idea of him being the naive country boy Lois thinks he is. have him screw up cause he doesn't understand. also, the whole bullet proof thing.... no. fast healing, yes, do that, but not bullet proof.

Round...(i lost count) in my neverending quest to like Hank Pym.

Tales to Astonish Part I

it'll help if you picture a young Val Kilmer at his nuttiest for most of this. as i did before, i'd develop Pym as more of a government agent (gone rogue) than a frustrated scientist. Pym would be an exceptional mind from the start and a bit of an egocentric personality.

Pym would already be working on his phd at age 21; at which point point he'd be recruited by the government. he eventually finds himself employed in Marvel's version of the X-Files. it's here (during Tales to Astonish) where he'd spend most of his pre-costumed hero career. Pym would use that giant brain of his and background in the sciences to investigate strange occurences and, along the way, encounter strange beings (an entire month of his life is spent in the forest trying to understand an injured Grottu). i guess i should note that Pym is basically demoted into this department after a few of years of 'regular' secret agent duty because he soon gains a reputation as a "problem agent"(eccentric, moody, cocky, anti-authority). this is all to explain why Pym would do something strange like try to avenge his wife by shrinking and don a costume (i personally don't like the commie-fighter angle).

Pym spends some time investigating his wife's murder; using the ant-man guise to hide his identity as an american national and to creep random bad guys out. initially the costume is just his street clothes, a trench coat, and a really hideous helmet (like copiel's design). well he gets his revenge on the members of the spy ring who silenced his wife (she was a double agent). and then he returns to states and, unofficially, resigns from government employ. when next we see him, Pym is teaching at a University and, while seemingly not insane, he's still moonlighting as Ant-Man whenever the unexplained needs looking into. i should note that my version of Pym serves as an almost unnatural magnet for strangeness.

So, by this point, you should be wondering about Janet Van Dyne. well, don't. she's a student at the college and has Pym's class in a lecture hall every MWF right before lunch (she always flirting w/ him and trying to get him to go to lunch). and Jan's father is a professor and head of the science department; which makes it even harder for Pym to turn down her advances. anyways, an experiment goes whack and Jan's dad dies while getting inbetween Jan, Henry, and some big muppet-like creature from the Kosmos dimension. before her period of grieving is over, Jan is accosted in the park by some thugs. Pym, who has been following her a lot because he feels guilty, fights them off. Jan mentions something about wanting to be able to defend herself. Pym, who i kind of fruit loops, immediately lets her in on his secret life as Ant-Man. a partnership is formed.

Fast Forward ahead...Pym (as Yellowjacket) and Jan (as the Wasp) become founders of the original Avengers team. instead of going nuts because he inhales some gas, Pym will just be their edgy Batman character throughout. sometimes he'll totally be on the ball and an invaluable asset. sometimes all the Avengers will get is his answering machine and Pym will be sitting unshaven staring at a wall. i just figure that there should be a price to his genius; something to separate him from Reed Richards and Stark. instead of being unsure of his position on the team or self-deprecating, Pym would be a paranoid control freak who vies for leadership just as often as Cap or Tony when not severely depressed or 'normal.' but these episodes would be few and far between. normally, he'd be their somewhat edgy go-to guy for most things science related. his specialty is industrial and biological chemistry.

TO BE CONTINUED

Tales to Astonish Part II

on the subject of Ultron; i've never really liked the father-son angle. makes Ultron seem kind of whiny. i'd rather Ultron be one of Pym's really misguided attempts to cure himself. Pym disappears from the team for a month, secludes himself in a cabin somewhere isolated, and basically studies robotics/a.i. now don't expect any of this to make sense but Pym basically tries to download himself into a perfect artificial replica of himself. his thinking is that his brain is somehow damaged; accounting for his lapses into insanity. he hopes to start over in the new body; minus his flaws. it doesn't work of course. instead, the worst of Pym (memories, intelligence, mood swings) is reborn in this metallic shell. it beats it's creator down, leaves him for dead, and then heads off to join the Avengers.

and it's ok for awhile. Ultron's actually very good at beating up supervillains and using it's mind to get the Avengers out of hairy situations. but he's missing Pym's more human qualities; like his love for Jan for instance. it's not long before the paranoia kicks in and the Avengers piss Ultron-Pym off. they fight, Jan is nearly killed, and Ultron is wounded; revealing his artificial insides. that drives him bonkers. but before he can finish the Avengers off, the real Pym charges in and manages to fight him off with a specially designed Kirby cannon. the fall out is that none of the Avengers trust Hank; even the Wasp.

other changes...

Elias Starr is Pym's old boss; the director of the secret agency and a really evil guy.

Bill Foster and Hank were roommates in college

Hank is actually institutionalized between the Ultron mess and West Coast Avengers

A determination is made that a combination of his earlier Tales to Astonish exeriences, the death of his wife, and years of playing with his own genetics had exasperated a relatively mild/hereditary mental illness.

it's in one of his saner states that he meets Scott Lang, a middle-aged techthief and hacker trying very hard to just be a good single-father, and helps him get out of a situation involving an international hi-tech theft ring (something similar to the movie 'Swordfish.')

just for reference, this is what the characters look like to me.

Working title: Universe 101

I had an idea about a mega maxi series in the vein of Grant Morrison's ambitious Seven Soldiers series, about an entire comic universe from the Golden age, on through to the Silver and bronze/Dark, and modern age. With various characters, Legacys, all that sort of stuff. I have ideas for various charcters and teams, as well as histories throughout each era for some of the characters. Heres a few.

silver age Captain Cosmic - Now theres a silver age name for ya huh? We have here a brilliant scientist by the name of David Reid, who creates a machine using this strange meteor rock (Which looks oddly enough like the substance that Ben Grimm is made of) to power it. The machine draws in cosmic energy from another dimension. The machince explodes, bathing him in cosmic energy. Enabaling him flight, and the ability to project cosmic energy blasts. He decides to become a hero, while attempting to harness the power again for the betterment of the world. Throughout his exsistance as a hero he creates a number of silly cosmic powered inventions. Such as a cosmic car, and the star gun which he gave to his girlfriend and future wife Marlo, who becomes Cosmic Girl. (Whats the silver age without the silly?) He is a founding member of the superhero team Gaurdians of America. He dies saving the universe during the "Omega Hour" event. Passing his mantle on to.....

silver age Kid Cosmic This young man by the name of Tamon Durr was born in an alternate universe. On his Earth, a mad man in charge of an intergalactic death cult create a machine, which ultimatley would destroy his entire universe. His father, a brilliant scientist, created a ship, an arc if you will, that could travel between dimensions. They fit in as many beings as they could and tried to make the jump. But they took damage during their escape from the cult attempting to stop them. The ship crossed over into the "In-between", where young Tamon was sucked out into the void. When he came too, he was floating in space. Somehow he had a strange glow keeping him from being killed by the vaccum of space. He lay there unconcious. By coincidence, (yeah I know, silver age) Captain Cosmic was out near the moon of Titan testing a new probe he invented when he caught the massive energy signature as it entered universe 101. He, along with the Moon Patrol raced to discover what it was, there they found a young orange boy with silver hair, floating in space. He took the boy in. Rasied him. Made him his sidekick Kid Cosmic and later took him on as a son. The boy drew his power directly from the cosmic energy that exsist in the In-Between. With powers far beyond even the Captain. After many adventures, including battling the mad man that destroyed his universe, and eventually finding his parents and the rest of the survivors of his universe, he took over the mantle of Captain Cosmic after the death of his adopted father. He still watches over the cosmos to the present day.

silver ageThe Moon Patrol Founded by the brilliant ferternal twin scientist, Phinias and Hector Moon back in the early 1960's, the Moon Patrol was basically a cross between taskforce X, The Doom Patrol, and the Challengers of the Unknown. Along with Pilot and close friend Hank Harper and beautiful research assitant Gail Grant (Gotta have the dumb brave tough guy and the , the damsel in distress) They went on adventure after adventrue, protecting the world from alien invasions by ming the merciless like despots, to energy vampires from the center of the Earth. Throughout it all the two bickering brothers were the center of the story. Phinias, being the Stright forward, leader of the group. Praised by the massess for his genious, while Hector sits back and hates on his bro for getting all the press. It's purlely tounge in cheek really. Kinda like Everybody loves Raymond or something. But, everything changes when Hector falls for Gail. But Gail is in love with Hank. WIth all the stuff going on with his jelously for his brother and the s**t with Hank and Gail, he finally loseses it and in a key moment, after they defeat a mad man with a machine to give god like powers to whoever is present inside of it, he uses the opportunity to take his place. WIth all this power, he procedes to try and change the universe to give himself Gail, the glory and accolades, money, power, the Moon Patrol itself. But it doesn't last. Deep down, he knew it wasn't right, and he ended up subconciously setting things up agianst himself. Enabling his brother to remember what happened. And freeing everybody else from his control. Resulting in Phinias leading a force of heros against his brother in a massive battle. When the smoke clears his power is stripped away by a machince Phinias was able to put together at the last minute. (Yeah I know, but hey, it's a comic) Powerless, he scrambles to a weapon, desparate to finally have Gail, he fires at Hank, Gail Jumps in front and is killed. Seeing what he has done, he pulls the gun on himself and well, thats it for Hector. Thats the end of the Silver age Moon Patrol. But not the end of the Moon Patrol by a long shot.

Anyway, thats just a few of the characters. I got more, but I'll probally get back to it later. Tell me what you think. Any suggestions would be appretiated because after all, this is a very rought draft.

Some pretty cool ideas, both of you. I'm still a bit tapped out. The only idea that moved past my mind was thinking about someone's suggestion that I paired up Danny Rand with Julia Carpenter romantic-wise, and for some reason it is workable, if not random. But that never stopped Marvel from doing the same with Psylocke and Archangel. :p

I gotta say Muze, that Hank Pym reimagining is f**kin sweet! I love what you did with Ultron. Taking Pyms place, Pym in an isntitution. Secret Agent. Brilliant.

thank you Anubis. i actually made a mistake in terminology. i'm guessing that the more appropriate term would be 'special agent' since i'm going with the Mulder/X-Files riff. anyways, i'll provide feedback on yours after my brain wakes up. ;)

Golden Age The Sentinal I - Private Kent Walker volenters for a top secret expieriment to create a superhero for the US to counter the threat of the German and Japanesse Superheros of WWII. The result was amping up the human physiology to superhuman levels. Ability to lift up to ten tons. Enhanced speed of up to 80 mph. Endurence, reflexes, Healing factor, you know. The works. They dubed him the Sentinal and he was Americas' champion. Fought throughout WWII with other heros as part of the Freedom Brigade consisting of guys like Pendragon, The Celtic Gaurdian, and The Amphibian . He even Delt the killing blow upon the superhuman Hitler in the final battle of the European theater. And fought the Japanesse Superhuman Hitochi on the Island of Midway. By the time the war ended he was promoted to a Major, and placed in charge of the US secret defense organization called the Last Line. He gave up his title and simply became known as the Major. He's fought wars that the public has no idea of. A true Cold Warrior in the vien of Nick Fury. And he eventually over saw the creation of the second incarnation of the Sentinal program...

Silver age The Sentinal II - This Sentinal was a young Soldier by the name of Ray Ross. This Sentinal would be created using atomic energy as a counter to the russian superhuman known as Nukulon. He did quite well for himself as America's Atomic Sentinal. Even joining the Gaurdians of America in the 70's. But for the most part he did work for the Last Line. His nucular physiology caused him serious mental problems as he began to understand just how powerful he was. He could transmute in-organic material to anything he wished. Later he would be able to do the same to organic items as well. The old saying, power corrupts pretty much applies here, and he went rogue. In an effort to try and bring him down, the Major sent a strike force to capture him. After a fierce battle, he errupted. Taking out the Colorado Rockies. He was rendered inert and placed in a containment cell where he still lies to this day.

Bronze/Dark ages Sentinal III WIth the Sentinal program ended after the violent end of the Atomic Sentinal, The Major was still conviced that the US still needed someone to protect it's shores. With the deaths of many heros during the Omega hour event, the world was left pretty defensless. John Jupiter certainly couldn't keep the world safe by himself. Certainly not at his age. And this new crop of heros were, unproven at best. The Major then secretly put some scientists to work on trying to create a new Sentinal. He put all his faith in an upstart young scientist by the name of Milo Lantus. Lantus was working on advanced evolution. He succeded in evolving human tissue through use of a machine he was able to create. He was sure he could advance a living being with it. But the Major pulled the plug on the opperation when the government found out what he was up to. Lantus, not wanting to give up his shot at glory, and he attempted to use it on a test subject to show them what it could do. He kidnapped an airman stationed at the base by the name of Harrison West and strapped him into the machine. His body and mind was evolved 20,000 years beyond that of a normal human. Lantus was captured and Harrison was taken for observation. Not wanting another problem like what went on with the Sentinal II project, they planned to destroy him. Not wanting to kill a soldier who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, the Major secretly helped him escaped. He went into hiding. Trying to make sense of his strange new powers. He possed high level TK abilites which enable flight and the ability to lift very large objects. Super Strength in the 50-60 ton class range, mild Telepathy and Precognative gifts. It was the precog ability that enabled him to see what would happen to the space shuttle Challanger as it left for it's doomed flight. He decided that he would risk exsposing himself to save the crew. On national TV, he was able to get the crew off the shuttle just in time before it exploded. He was a national hero, and the government chose to let him live, but they would keep a very close eye on him. Not even allowing him to leave the military base except for missions for a number of years. Lantus escaped, and continues to run his sick expierements as the Evolutionary. The Major was forced to retire for his hand in all this mess. He continues to be something of a mentor to Harrison. The current Sentinal is still active to this day. With a wife and child who posseses some of her fathers powers.

i'd almost rather see him with Jessica Drew. i think she needs a disciplined - sensitive individual like Danny. likewise, i think Iron Fist needs someone as active as he is. Julia's kind of faking being wheelchair bound and seems content with just being part of the PTA at her daughter's school. when he was still alive, i thought that Scott Lang and Julia would have made a good-looking couple; two single parent 'redhead' legacy heroes leaning towards retirement. too bad. anyways, i could just see Danny and Jessica hitting it off. they've both been through the "i'm dead but not really" phase. they're both into martial arts. they've both been private investigators/paid heroes. they both have mystical enemies (Master Khan/Morgan LeFey).

Golden Age The Sentinal I - Private Kent Walker volunteers for a top secret expieriment to create a superhero for the US to counter the threat of the German and Japanesse Superheros of WWII. The result was amping up the human physiology to superhuman levels. Ability to lift up to ten tons. Enhanced speed of up to 80 mph. Endurence, reflexes, Healing factor, you know. The works. They dubbed him the Sentinal and he was Americas' champion.

decent character. but what reality does this take place in.

Fought throughout WWII with other heros as part of the Freedom Brigade consisting of guys like Pendragon, The Celtic Guardian, and The Amphibian

so are these UK heroes? cool. what were their powers?

He even Delt the killing blow upon the superhuman Hitler in the final battle of the European theater. And fought the Japanesse Superhuman Hitochi on the Island of Midway. By the time the war ended he was promoted to a Major, and placed in charge of the US secret defense organization called the Last Line. He gave up his title and simply became known as the Major. He's fought wars that the public has no idea of. A true Cold Warrior in the vein of Nick Fury. And he eventually over saw the creation of the second incarnation of the Sentinal program...

sounds good. so is this basically your own pocket universe?

Anubis said:
Silver age The Sentinal II - This Sentinal was a young Soldier by the name of Ray Ross. This Sentinal would be created using atomic energy as a counter to the russian superhuman known as Nukulon. He did quite well for himself as America's Atomic Sentinal. Even joining the Guardians of America in the 70's. But for the most part he did work for the Last Line. His nuclear physiology caused him serious mental problems as he began to understand just how powerful he was. He could transmute inorganic material to anything he wished.

so he's like Firestorm?

Anubis said:
Later he would be able to do the same to organic items as well. The old saying, power corrupts pretty much applies here, and he went rogue. In an effort to try and bring him down, the Major sent a strike force to capture him. After a fierce battle, he errupted. Taking out the Colorado Rockies. He was rendered inert and placed in a containment cell where he still lays to this day.

interesting. so i guess he's a potential future villain.

Anubis said:
Bronze/Dark ages Sentinal III WIth the Sentinal program ended after the violent end of the Atomic Sentinal, The Major was still conviced that the US still needed someone to protect it's shores. With the deaths of many heros during the Omega hour event, the world was left pretty defensless. John Jupiter certainly couldn't keep the world safe by himself. Certainly not at his age. And this new crop of heros were, unproven at best. The Major then secretly put some scientists to work on trying to create a new Sentinal.

wow. will they ever learn from past mistakes?! ;)

Anubis said:
He put all his faith in an upstart young scientist by the name of Milo Lantus. Lantus was working on advanced evolution. He succeded in evolving human tissue through use of a machine he was able to create. He was sure he could advance a living being with it. But the Major pulled the plug on the operation when the government found out what he was up to. Lantus, not wanting to give up his shot at glory, and he attempted to use it on a test subject to show them what it could do. He kidnapped an airman stationed at the base by the name of Harrison West and strapped him into the machine.

well kidnapping is no way to create a supersoldier. that's just asking for rebellion.

i like legacy characters. good stuff. it's too bad that you don't have pictures of them. btw, what happened to celtic guardian and the rest? did they retire?

my take on Alpha Flight would, of course, involve Canada's "local heroes." but they'd have no real organization and come together on a volunteer basis (think of a bowling league or volunteer fire department). and Department H wouldn't come into play until *much* later. they start out just monitoring the team; deciding how best to use them politically. btw, the Great Beasts are fairly important to Marvel Canada continuity, so they stay. and magic plays a bigger role in this part of the universe, as well.

who's in the Flight?

Guardian - James MacDonald "Mac" Hudson's a government scientist/engineer who works for Department H during the day & coaches a high school hockey team (he played in college)/restores old cars/spends time with his wife (& fellow Dept H co-worker) in his spare time. Mac is a very active guy with a real need to cut loose. when the rising # of supervillain incidents in the states start spreading up North, "Mac" shifts all of his focus into completing one of his annoying (to his wife) sideprojects. at Dept H, Mac is designing a real hi-tech flight suit for military use. unbeknownst to his superiors, he's conducting a similar experiment at home. moving right along.. Mac finishes & self-tests his 'guardian' suit and helps stop a major supervillain skirmish alongside a few other locals. he suggests that they join forces or, at least, swap information should any of them need backup at a future period. his wife thinks he nuts & James is found out by Department H. to his surprise, they stand behind his activities as Guardian (even let him use the lab to streamline the clunky flight harness). because of his natural ingenuity & background as a coach, Guardian becomes defacto field leader of this group.

Sasquatch - during Guardian's origin, Sasquatch is already a popular urban legend. he comes out of hiding, much to everyone's surprise, to help stop the supervillain threat. he's later tracked down to his hiding place & opts to give them his backstory instead of tearing them limb from limb. basically, Walter Langkowski was a physics grad student who signed with the NFL (Packers) after college. a knee injury led to early retirement. he resumed scientific study & ventured out into the Canadian wilderness to study an unnatural energy field manifesting there. so he has his makeshift lab/cabin out in the woods. but he has no idea of the weirdness surrounding him. the energy has disturbed the habitat of what we'd call a 'yeti' or 'abominable snowdude.' the creature spots Walt with his fancy tech out in the woods & figure he's the source of the disturbance. after a few attacks on the cabin, Walt purchases a rifle from town & goes out to find this creature. they mix it up & are emersed in the energy field i mentioned. this causes a merging of the two. Walt wakes up in the body of a 'sasquatch.' you can imagine what he's thinking (involves a lot of mental cursing). he decides to hide away in the forest/study the energy field so that he can "cure" himself. doesn't work that way. he spends some time as a local monster & eventually hooks up w/ Alpha Flight. for the first few years, Langkowski is trapped in Sasquatch form. he's still intelligent but those hands aren't good for manipulating sensitive equipment. eventually, he'll be able to switch back & forth thanks to magical intervention. this also revives his old "ladies man" persona.

Shaman - Michael Twoyoungmen was one of Canada's top surgeons, who had given up his ancestral heritage for a family. His life was basically destroyed when his wife died from cancer, despite his own medical intervention. Michael spiraled into depression & spent years in seclusion, until he finally opened a gift his grandfather had left for him after he died (also from cancer). The gift was what appeared to be an ordinary medicine pouch. however, when Twoyoungmen opened the pouch, his grandfather's spirit emerged, scared him [bleep]less, then proceeded to train Mike to become a powerful mystic and to use the pouch. he had kept his powers underwraps for the most part & returned to operating mainly on people from his tribe. but the ginormous supervillain threat brought him out of hiding & introduced him into Alpha Flight. Mike is kind of quiet but is quick-witted/has a good sense of humor.

Puck - Eugene Milton Judd would still be a soldier of fortune (a rather unique one); except it’s his mutancy & not magic that keeps him vital/long-lived. my version of Judd is twice the scrapper/a real hellion & that's gotten him into a lot of trouble over his century's-worth of life. at the start of the Alpha Flight story, Judd has just been released from prison for murder(accidentally killed a guy in a bar fight). btw, his dwarfism is a genetic condition, instead of some byproduct of mixing it up w/ the Black Raazar. he volunteers for alpha flight, partly, to atone for some of his past badness and, mostly, because he's an action junkie. despite his criminal past, 'Puck' is the most lighthearted of the bunch, exceedingly brave, & a bit of a showoff.

Northstar & Aurora - i'd shift their origin a bit. Marvel Canada is a lightning rod for all things mystical, so i'm ditching the twins' mutancy. they had a human father & an elemental faery mother but fate had them grow up in an orphanage/nunnery for most of their lives. they both experienced ritual abuse during this time. Jean-Paul, the less-complacent one, ran away & fell in with a rough crowd (terrorists). his sister, Jean Marie, stuck around & developed her own split personality. both are a bit younger than the rest of the Alphas (mid-to late teens). so Jean Paul has his adventure, realizes that the terrorists he's been bunking w/ are no good, tries to stop them, finds himself implicated in their crimes, is on the run, & makes 1 last try to get his sister out of the orphanage (she's stayed on as a kind-of-maid) before being apprehended. this triggers her worst personality shift-yet. she goes on the rampage at the govt building where they are interrogating Jean-Paul. she ends up being detained, as well. time passes & the two are made wards of James Macdonald Hudson & his wife Heather (Alpha Flight has already been created at this point).

Snowbird - simple is always better for me. Narya (Snowbird) is a canadian demigoddess. she falls from the sky badly shaken up & a bit crazy. Alpha Flight is called in to capture/prevent her from tearing up Ontario. she eventually gets her head on straight & adds her otherworldly powers to the team. she's fairly young for a demigoddess but is still one of the more mature Alpha Flighters.

like all teams, Alpha Flight will go through some roster shifting. way down the line, Mac is tricked into signing Alpha Flight over to the government & Department H. this causes some tension. Guardian, himself, is temporarily replaced by old rival (Heather's ex-boyfriend)& engineer Madison Jeffries; wearing his new Box flight armor. and the team welcomes a new addition; a legacy character if you will. the now college-aged son (Lou Sadler jr) of reknowned Canadian hero Major Mapleleaf joins up & apparently has powers of his own. Heather Hudson might suit up as well. you never know. but Alpha Flight, in the rykerverse, starts out as a more thrill-seeking bunch of weekend warriors then government-sponsored human weapons. they all have lives outside of the Flight & do as much fooling around (midnight hockey matches, football, darts, drinking, etc) as they do heroing.

How I would do Spider-Man.....
.......That being said there is nothing wrong with Peter and MJ. No drastic changes. No divorce....no crazy new powers...no new costume. No reverting to a photographer...His job as a teacher is perfect. So what needs to be changed????
His rogues...his enemies. Spider-man has some of the best villains but they are all jokes. Do you have a sense of dread when you see the Vulture on the cover??? Me neither. So I would have this mysterious stranger hire Jack O' Lantern to gather all of Spider-Man's enemies together. Vulture, Electro,Hydroman,Rhino, Shocker,Venom,Boomerang,Mysterio and other show up. Jack O' Lantern gives them the offer the mysterious stranger gave him. Unlimited funding. New equipment. New training. They all agree and form the new Sinister Syndicate. They leave NY and are at a compound in Vegas called the Hive. It is there that they begin their training. Imagine it like and evil Xavier Institute. Meanwhile Peter's life is easy as there are almost no supervillain attacks. Then the villains return. Imagine a Vulture who flies way faster and have razor sharp metallic wings, Electro who is way more powerful than he ever was, Hydroman who has very creative uses for his powers,Rhino who has gone from just a dumb thug to a thinking threat, Shocker with equipment that rivals Iron Man's, Venom who learned to fight just like Spider-man from the Taskmaster, Boomerang with better equipment and Mysterio with high tech FX. They make Peter's life a living hell. While he is leaping thru hoops the mysterious benefactor watches from the shadows. After a few issues of Peter getting his butt handed to him it is revealed that the mysterious villain is....The Big Man. The mystery continues as everyone tries to figure out who is behind the white mask of the Big Man. The big reveal comes as The Big Man is revealed to be Jason Macendale. Yes I said it. Macendale was revealed to have faked his death when the Original Hobgoblin came back.......and you thought it was gonna be Norman Osborne

well the problem i see, off the bat, is that you're basically using the Vulture to label the others. no, i don't get an inner sense of dread when i see the Vulture. that's really not the point of his character. he's just a thief. he's not Venom; someone who is meant to be Spiderman's worst nightmare. it's a lot like Batman's Rogue's Gallery in that not every villain is meant to be a physical threat. if i were to change something about the Vulture, it'd be his m.o. no more hokey costume. more planning and leading from the shadows. he could be a former physical threat who matures into more of a criminal mastermind type. sure, he could have powers; maybe enhanced strength. but, by this point, he's too smart and too old to rely on something like that. he would basically be that Bont guy over in Daredevil. the other characters could benefit more from attitude adjustment than power-ups. and some of them need to be slackers just so that they don't kill Spiderman every time out ex. Hydro-Man. i got my own little changes to his rogues gallery but their mainly cosmetic or background twists. anyways, good discussion. :)

btw, if i were going to pick a mystery benefactor, it'd be Roderick Kingsley. :)

This is part of my Universe 101 idea. It could be a marvel universe, just not 616, or I could just come up with another name and have it just be something I made up. Meaning I got freedom to do what I want.

so are these UK heroes? cool. what were their powers?

Yes, they are UK characters, with the exception of The Amphibian ( I may change that name.) He's an atlantian so you know, not even european. As far as powers, Well I'll get to them later. But basically Pendragon is the Golden age inheritor of Excalibur. The Celtic Gaurdian is more like a druidian warrior spirit taken root in a human host. There are others, I'll get to at some point. But for the most part, this is my universes Freedom Fighters, my All-Star Squadron.

so he's like Firestorm?

Yeah, or more like Nuke from Squadron Supreme because of the whole going crazy thing. This whole thing is basically a homage. You'll see many other characters in most of what I've come up with.

interesting. so i guess he's a potential future villain.
Oh Definatly. I got other ideas for villians I'll continue to put up when I get the chance.

wow. will they ever learn from past mistakes?! ;)
In comics? They never do. :)

well kidnapping is no way to create a supersoldier. that's just asking for rebellion.
I was thinking about changing that to maybe Harrison being a janitor. Either way, I dont feel that Lantus cared weather or not the subject would do what he says so much as weather or not it would work.

so he's the pinnacle of human evolution? cool.

Pretty much. I figure it's the most natural evolution of that type of hero. From brusier, to atomic superman, to advanced human with mental powers.

i like legacy characters. good stuff. it's too bad that you don't have pictures of them. btw, what happened to celtic guardian and the rest? did they retire?

I love Legacy characters too. One of the main reasons why I love DC so much. As far as what happened to the other golden age heros, well, I'll get to that. But For certain a Pendragon will be around from start to finish.

Behold the Guardians of the Galaxy

my only problem with the Guardians were their costume designs (or maybe just how they were drawn). Major Victory has a jerry curl and a headband. was he doing exercise videos inbetween issues? they also had some of the lamest villains ever; a female Wolverine, Mephisto's daughter, and some bigtime serial killer named Ripjak; who had one of the lamest/most colorful costumes i've ever seen on a wannabe-bad@$$.

anyways, my twisted scheme is to merge the Guardians reality with that of the character Killraven's. yeah, i know they are different worlds and concepts but i think they can work together. plus, they are two series i'm lukewarm about but might actually enjoy if they were combined.

. i see Killraven as as the reluctant leader of the Guardians. just look at how cool Killraven looks holding a shield; a lot cooler than major as-muffin at least.

http://image2.milehighcomics.com/istore/images/fullsize/37981649610.20.GIF

. i'd have him join Charlie-27, Yondu, Nikki, Martinex, & Aleta Vaughn. Killraven would meet them after escaping a martian prison (Earth has been colonized by the martians and most of the humans were slain or enslaved). they'd all have a blast tearing through martians, realize that they are badly outnumbered, & eventually find a badly worn space winnebago (flying sewage tanker actually) to jumpstart & make it off the planet. now space nomads, these survivors would pretty much try to lay low & would start out being a very self-centered group (think of the Starjammers or the tv series "Firefly"). slowly the description "guardians of the galaxy" would come to describe them better. they'd be drug kicking and screaming into helping out on other worlds; saving planets from being taken over by the likes of the martians, brood, altered-mutants, and Dire Wraith.

. though they've been through a lot compared to groups like the Fantastic Four & Avengers, the mood wouldn't always be one of doom and gloom. the characters would share a few laughs even if they are expecting to die at any second; a la Suicide Squad.

. i'd give them different costumes &, in some cases, different looks. they'd start out in fancy prison bodysuits and, eventually, come to wear something similar to the X-treme Xmen.
http://image2.milehighcomics.com/istore/images/fullsize/98757117571.35.GIF
any current professional artist could update them so that they are still basically recognizable; i figure. but i'd say that less color might help them in the long run even if they customize their own battle gear.

Individual changes;

Killraven - i don't think he needs any changing. he can keep the history as a gladiator and the psionic abilities. i might not limit him to a sword though. this is a new century. there should be plenty of space weaponry at his disposal. maybe he could also use a laser sword.

Charlie-27 - he's a little bit of 'Ben Grimm', with a dash of Wolverine, and a serving of Marv from Sin City. Charlie'd still have the face mask that he sports in the Perez pic. i hated that redesigned commando Charlie who looked sort of like a flattened-Bruce Willis. the mask makes him more intimidating, imo. he had cool powers (body adapted to extremely high pressures), so i'd keep them.

Nikki - i like the character but she has a boring name. probably just name her 'Mercury' and use 'Nikki' as a pet-name. i see her as sort of being Hawkeye with a few chromosomes switched around and more attitude. she'd be an incredible marksman with her pistols and specially jointed so that she could make unbelievable trick shots (like shoot accurately backwards). i'd like her biting sense of humor to be preserved as well. as for her look, the artists can take care of that. i like that her head is always on fire but i think it should actually look like fire instead of dyed hair. you should be able to see that cue-ball head of hers through the flame. (see girl in lower right of this pic)
http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=fullsize&issue=51428293118%201

Yondu - a really cool guy. kind of exotic-looking w/ the jewelry & giant fin potruding from his head. he's probably the one i'd change the most; personality-wise. Yondu seemed like a mixture of 'Spock' and 'early Black Panther' to me; always the sage. i'd screw him up big time by making him a former priest whose species had been infiltrated by the dire wraith and turned evil. Yondu watched his friends and loved ones, formerly peaceful individuals, going apes$!t so he basically mercy killed them all. the archery bit would be one of his species past-times; done for sport but never to kill. that would all change once Yondu became the last of his species. he'd travel planet to planet as a mercenary & be quite the bitter/broken indivual. he'd come to be imprisoned by the Martians & meet up w/ the other enslaved species. hopefully, he'd start to get over the trauma of being a mass murderer & become close with his teamates.

Aleta - direct descendent of the superhero Quasar and a mutant with some killer light-based powers. they're all that kept her alive whereas most of the other humans bit it in the initial martian attack. she and Killraven would become close. i'd say that Aleta would be the most level-headed/empathic of the crew. if i had to compare her to another marvel character, it'd be Jean Grey.

&

Martinex - your average crystalline tech whiz with a computer swift mind & photographic memory. and we mustn't forget his ability to generate extreme heat and cold (he hates conflict so you wouldn't see it very often). Marty would find the remains of a highly advanced artificial being (Vision) and tie it into the spaceships navigational systems. i'd describe Martinex as the Guardian's version of Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (WB's Angel tv series character). he'd always be talking more than he should about things only the biggest geek would care about. he has an extensive knowledge of marvel hero canon for instance.

the villains would be more recognizable and less garrish. the villains from the last series seemed to be a parody on the x-titles; every villain has to have their own codename and a power that fits w/ the codename. i don't see any problem w/ just having the Guardians face a band of nameless Kree mercs or the Brood. if Ripjak were to be used, he'd be more human in appearance; thinking along the lines of Daredevil or Bullseye. an intergalactic serial killer is a cool idea. i just didn't like the design of his armor.
--------
future character appearances:

at some point i'd introduce my version of Talon, Stakkar Vaughn, and Vance Astrovik.

Talon would be a pick pocket version of Nightcrawler. his race (i'm ditching the Inhumans stuff) would all be cat-like in appearance and have various pseudo-magical abilities; more useful as distraction or entertainment than offense. the majority of his race were enslaved and used for entertainment by a more dominant species, somewhat willingly, but Talon would be a bit of a rebel/black sheep & would run off with the Guardians for a chance at adventure. some of his abilities; can cast a glamour that masks his presence when he's standing still/crouching motionless - teleport small objects to himself - & w/ great effort, teleport himself short distances. most of his species are naturally agile & blessed with exceptional night vision. Talon would have his own weird style; sleeker bodysuit w/ a hood on it & somewhat roomy sleeves to hide stuff in.

Starhawk - i'd make him the brother that Aleta thought to have been killed when the martians took over. he would have been used as a guinea pig for awhile, brainwashed, and used to hunt down the Guardians. his powers, unlike Aleta's, would be darkforce based and altered so that they'd cover him head-to-toe in this shiny jetblack armor (think of a less pointy version of Darkhawk). he'd have the big retractable wings that can be used offensively or just for flight.

Vance - would be the real deal instead of a time-divergent being this time. he'd be an old grizzled soldier of the Earth rebellion who basically sacrifices himself during the Guardians initial escape from the martian-controlled Earth. he's basically the guy who convinces Killraven that he can be more than a gladiator/slave and gets him to think about the future of the universe. if you're wondering why he isn't dead, Vance would have disappeared under mysterious circumstances sometime in the past. he comes out of suspended animation (or whatever) not too long before the Martians launch their 1st attack. coincidentally, he also gives Killraven Cap's shield as a symbol to spur the Guardians on.
