This is for those underground or less Marvel/DC-y comics that comic fans still love.

Of the top of my head:

Spawn
Darkness
Red Sonja
The Crow
Witchblade
Vampirella
Tom Judge
Hellblazer
etc..

What are some of your faves?

I've been mildly following The Bionic Man comics. They're pretty good.

I've seen the previews to Bionic Woman and wondered if they would be good. Are they related/interconected in the comics too?

They were in the tv series. I assume it's the same in the comics too.

Isn't it apart of Vertigo? Er go not mainstream DC, although it was published by them initially.

Vertigo is owned by DC, which is in turn owned by Time/Warner, one of the largest media empires on the planet.

That does not fit any definition of the word "independent" as it applies to the arts that I am aware of.

Plus, it takes place within the DCU proper.

Hellblazer doesn't take place in the DCU.

There is a younger version of the John Constantine who is in the DCU as a member of Justice League Dark.

Even before the JL Dark, Hellbalzer was in the DCU. Just like Swamp Thing, and both Sandman comics. Then Didio said it wasn't, now it is again.....sorta. Either way, Hellbalzer started out, and technically always was DCU proper.

This.

I don't think you can really put him into the catorgory of Sups and Batman. It seems like they live in pretty different worlds.

And just because DC owns Vertigo does not mean it is at the same level as DC. Constantines world of comics is more tailored to the indie audiance by being less cookie cutter and it doesn't seem to me that Wildstorm was a very mainstream either. I guess it just depends on your take of "indie comics"

He used to date Zatanna. Case closed.

ANYWAY

I liked Atomic Robo.

Oh well when you say that...:whatever: There different. He used to live in their world now he doesn't so no matter what he isn't apart of DCU anymore. Get over it.

Anyway I like Image a lot these days. Hack Slash has become one of my new faves as well as anything Top Cow puts out. They get flack for being frival in the past but it has def changed the past 5-8 years.

Constantine started in the DCU back in Swamp Thing but when he got his own title Hellblazer with Vertigo it became a seperate continuity. John Constantine ages real time in Hellblazer which other characters in the DCU don't.

The John Constantine in the DCU right now is basically the one from Alan Moore's Swamp Thing from the 80s with out the last 30 years of character development from Hellblazer title.

I don't think Image counts as indie either.

I think the only thing that counts for Indie is that it's Creator Owned. Meaning, if the team that's putting the book together own the characters, and the majority of the proceeds go to them, then that's Independent.....which was always kind of the point of Image, Dark Horse, Oni, etc.

I also follow G.I.Joe & Transformers, that are now published by IDW.

Anything directed by Michael Bay definitely isn't indie.

Well, I certainly HATE Michael Bay & all he stands for, but since both of the titles I mentioned aren't published by neither DC or Marvel it was an assumption on my part. Curiously enough, G.I.Joe isn't directed by Bay.

I loved Blankets and in my more emo days, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.

Oh, and Warren Ellis' Fell.

"I hate you and I don't even know you."

Now that's the line of the century. :o

My first week in high school I discovered they had Squee in the library. I was very happy.

God I love Squee.

I'm gonna be checking out that Acme Library stuff soon as well.

Can we not argue so frivalously about what is indie the entire thread?

BTW what do you even consider indie? Do you like it? Why are you here other than to grip on peoples thoughts about what's indie and what isn't?:whatever:
