Anybody here an indy game developer?

I loved tooling around with the RPG maker series, and I was wondering if there's any software out there that will allow me to develop my own 8-bit or 16-bit games, ie, side-scrollers and the like. Any suggestions? I'm dying for a NES Transformers game since I was eight, yo! I'll make it myself if I have to!

You need the .NET framework, and I think you probably need visual studio and all that too. It's pretty nifty, but I haven't had time to sit down and mess with it a lot yet. We should all make an XBLA RPG about these forums. I could be the hero, since I can never die (be banned), and me and my party could fight against the evil mod empire and their lackey's like Topdawg or byrkee. Best game ever

I'm thinking about taking every episode of the Hype Series and crafting it into an actual script. With real names and whatnot.

Warthogs= Shopping carts missing one wheel, with one guy pushing the cart and the other guy in the basket shooting a silverware turrent

Not to mention reprogramming Solid Snake into being a spellcheck system again.

Solid Snake could be our game's Daedalus/Icarus! He'd show up in news terminals saying "ICARUS HAS FOUND YOU!", but with worse spelling and grammar. If only we could make this game, it'd be so awesome
