I was thinking about it and after watching Justice League: The New Frontier and hearing about X-men: First Class and Captain America, is there anyone else that would love to see period-era appropriate movies, whether live action or animated?

I would love to see Superman or Batman set in the 30s, or Spider-man, X-men (the actual first class), or Iron Man set in the 60s in order to truly examine and see the main reasons they were created. I would love to see Batman in an actual 30s pulp noir like film (B89 was close at times but it was present day) or Spider-man in the 60s.

I would love to even see Wonder Woman in the 40s or Wolverine/Punisher in the 70s.

Before anyone else says it, I'm not talking about the likeliness it will ever happen. I'm just wondering other people would like to see it or ever thought about it.

I'd love a period JSA movie or TV series. Also, a Sandman Mystery Theater show is like, my dream project.

Neither are gonna happen, though. :(

If they make another Shadow movie it will undoubtably be a period piece, the 90s one was a bit boring, so hopefully a new one will be more interesting. If they made it more like a Jimmy Cagney gangster movie with a superhero attached, it could be a lot of fun, instead of all the mystical bollocks they had in the Russell Muchaly one.
We also had the Phantom movie which was a period piece , it was ok but at best they could get it as good as Raiders or Temple of Doom. So there is a chance we could get a couple of period pieces in the future(our future), where they are appropriate for the character.
Doc Savage is another pulp/superhero type they could do another movie for that would most likely be a period piece.

edit: and yeah, a Wonder Woman solo movie set in the 40s during WWII would be awesome, I would much rather see that than have her set in the modern era fighting a supervillan. There was an apparently very good script written for exactly that kind of movie, WB bought it, but were not interested in actually making it at the time. Maybe if Cap A is a big hit they will reconsider and make the movie.
The 3 part JL episode with Vandal Savage that ended season1 shows just how good this kind of movie could be, they pretty much gave the spotlight to WW in that 'movie'.
It could have pretty funny moments too, imagine WW walking into a room of dirty, sweaty soldiers who have not been with a woman in months/years, them trying it on and her putting them in their place by kicking ass.
You wouldn't even need a supervillan for the movie, it could be a breath of fresh air.

Somehow I'd love a Spiderman movie in the 60's or 70's. Maybe because I grew with the 1967 cartoons and the 1977 TV series. But I also think it'd be interesting to mix the story with what was happening back in the dasy, like Flash Thompson and the Vietnam war in the comics.

I'd love to see a lot of period comic book films. :awesome:

Once Nolan has finished his trilogy, I'd like to see the next Batman film set in the 1930's with black and white cinematography.

As much as I'm no way in hell a Spidey fan, I still can't deny that the John Romita Sr. days of the comics during the late 60's/70's was the best.

When I saw Sky Captain with those huge robots that resembled the ones from the 1940's Superman cartoon, I was thinking how cool it would be to have a live-action period Superman film like that.

There have been talks of rebooting/remaking The Shadow, Doc Savage, Srgt Rock, The Phantom (in the 40's) and a few others.

Would you see Marvel Noir done as a movie or series? Or 1602?

How about the Elsewhere series from DC Comics?

I was actually just talking about superhero films taking in place in the era in which they were created like Spider-man/X-men in the 60s or Batman/Superman in the 30s but I guess the others you mentioned apply to this thread.

Here is something to consider....

We are still decades away, but there will eventually become a breaking point in the future where the characters won't really function properly in the world of that time. The comic book superheros we know are really the mythology of the 20th century. Just like ancient Greece had it's God's, Godesses, heros (Hercules and Persius, ect..), the 20th Century spawned it's superheros. And being products of their time, they function best in the time they were created. Just like a new version of Clash of the Titans CANNOT be set in modern day, some day the superhero re-imaginings MUST all be set in their original period permanently as well.

So distant generations will probably only know Batman/Superman from 30's and 40's, or Spider-man from the 60's.

Think on that one.

I love the idea of Superhero period pieces. I'ld love to see a '60s Fantastic Four movie using a sort of psychedelic, Flash Gordon look

or if "Captain America" ends up being too modern or too safe they should try again with a golden age character like the Black Terror and go all "Mad Men" on it. That would be awesome!

We'll all have died in nuclear Armageddon by then, so no worries. :o :)

The photography doesn't have to be black and white.

I would love to see a show about a young Jay Garrick fighting super villains in the 1940's, we'll probably never get that or anything with the JSA because of the new movies though.

The closest we may get is Sandman Mystery Theater... which has potential to be truly amazing.

Ok, just thought of one i would want to see more than any other...A Dazzler movie set in the late 70s during the height of disco, that would blow my mind, I frickin' love disco music, and to combine that with the psychedelic visuals of her powers and all the cool cars and settings of the 70s, wowza wowza wowza. I fI could write/direct one superhero movie, that is the one i would choose, and i have only owned one Dazzler solo comic in my life, i can see the whole movie in my head right now, real drama about a woman trying to make it in showbusiness, combined with superheroics, a celebrity superhero who has integrity and won't sell out to the suits, damn i want to make that movie.

DrStrange would be good too, set in the the 60s, 66/67, during the height of flower power, 67 was the summer of love right? or was it 66, can't recall, anyway, using the trippy visuals of Ditko's original artwork, combined with the fact the Doc's santum santorum is based smack in the middle of Greenich Village, you could do a real cool period piece there. But not hokey with dumb hippie jokes etc, straight up with a cool s/track featuring the Hendrix, the Doors, early Barrett era Floyd(Interstellar Overdrive is a must), Blue Cheer, Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane, the Stones, the Beatles, all that crap, make that movie.
and make it that the Doc has his car accident that wrecks his hands because he tokes on a reefer to ease the stress of a hard day's work as a surgeon. Ok, maybe that is one bad hippie/reefer cliche.

and i have seen it suggested before on some other board or thread, but a Power Man/Iron-Fist movie set in the 70s with a feel like Starsky and Hutch or Hill street Blues would also be extremely cool.

Howard the Duck should be set in the 70s too, just like the original book was, if they set it nowadays he would be popping up on youtube and all that crap like in that mini series from a couple of years ago that wasn't very good.

I have many a time dreamed of period Batman, Superman, and Captain America movies.
I know the Captain America movie will be set in WWII but I wish Marvel would spend more time with Captain America in WWII, maybe three movies, before they send him into the future.

Sure, I'd like to see more superhero stories set in different time periods. It's more interesting that way.

I'm interested, but depends on how it's handled. Doing a period piece just for the heck of it is silly. Doing a b&w noir Batman just for the visual look is rather pointless. But an X-Men film that takes place in the middle of the Civil Rights Movement of the `60s would be great.
