Has anyone ever canceled their Live subscription? I purchased a 3-month Gold back in May and forgot about the automatic renew (complete BS they have this, IMO). It got renewed a few days ago and I called tonight to cancel since I can't connect my Xbox to Live at school. The guy said if I canceled, I could lose my gamerscore points and achievements and some other stuff I think. He said I could give my subscription to someone but I could barely understand how. I said I'd just think it over and call back.

So, has anyone ever canceled and lost their stuff or do they just say this to scare us into letting them keep our money?

Thats BS. Whoever told you that should be fired.

My brother had the same problem. Brought 3 months and it kept renewing. He called in and they stopped the auto-renewal. They tired to get him to keep it on though of course. It is probably much easier to do it though xbox.com though.

Here are some instructions on how to do it though xbox.com. Link

I stopped the auto-renewal but after it renewed a few days ago. I want to cancel b/c I won't be home to play my 360 and I can't get my console connected online at school so I want the refund (assuming they give you one. I haven't played it since it renewed a couple days ago).

I doubt you'll get a refund. Save yourself the stress and just let it run out on its own.

Even if it was renewed 3 days ago and I haven't played my 360 in months? Gotta love MS :down

You didn't turn off the auto renewal. It sucks but its not really their fault.

True but they should allow a grace period to cancel your membership and get a refund if it kicked in with auto renewal. It is pretty sleazy of them to have an auto renewal, especially if it's with anything but a year subscription. Why would anyone pay $40 for 6 months when $10 more gets a year?

I get what you're saying, and have fun trying to convince MS to give you a refund, I just don't see it happening.

Next time a free trial of anything asks you to put in your credit card information, remember that it's probably going to charge you when the trial is over. You have to treat MS like a porn site.

i don't understand, if you bought a LIVE card in a store and it was for say 3 months. shouldn't the LIVE go back to the default silver after 90 days. they only renew it if you paid with a credit card on file with the system or am i missing something. i used to have the card on file thing but i preferred the pre pay cards they sold in stores, my last card i bought ran out in like Feb and my account is still silver even tho i no longer own a 360, i can still log into my my account at xbox.com ;).

Yes, how sleazy of them to save individuals the hassle of manually renewing. :whatever:

This isnt a new development with transactions like this.

I guess they're really hurting now and need my money. I wonder if I could get them to give me some MS points instead. They offered to give me 500 if I upgraded to a year.

I entered my CC info to purchase some points years ago. I used it to buy Gold in May since it was more convenient than going to the store and getting a card.

If you want to change it, you have to either go onto your Xbox account and do it manually and it took me awhile to find where it was. I've read that some people weren't able to do it that way and had to call and talk to someone and cancel it that way, a process which takes 15+ min. And it is complete BS that you can't manage everything about your Live account online. For a lot of things you have to call support which can take 20-40 minutes.

This is a minor gripe, but they don't even put the actual number to call online. They only have 1-800-4MY-XBOX. I was using my Blackberry and had to look up online for the full number. I've never seen it where they didn't give you the full number in addition to the little slogan they have in the number.

This is why I use the prepaid cards. Just buy a year long card and I'm good for the next 12 months. Although now that I'm thinking about it I wonder if I'll get the auto renew thing since I bought some points online a few months ago. Should check that out since my Gold service has to be running out soon.

I called again. They should stop calling it "Cancel Xbox Live" and call it "Cancel Renewal." You're basically just calling to have them turn off the Automatic Renewal and get offered to buy a year of Live with 500 points. This time the operator didn't try to scare me with the threat of losing my achievements and gamerscore.
