ANyone here buy stock?

I'm looking to buy some apple stock and am contemplating on signing up with Etrade.com. Does anybody use this online brokerage? Hows the service on online sites?

It is not bad but you should do a careful survey because my knowledge of them dates back to 99. And the service is really very different depending on who you go with and the amounts you are investing. Take careful note of the commissions.

On here in the "bid" and "ask" column theres 107 * 1000 etc what does that mean?

That's showing active bids and asking prices on the stock exchange floor, I believe. Someone's putting out 1,000 shares for sale and asking 107 for them. Conversely, there's a bid cell as well where someone will bid X amount of dollars on a particular number of shares for that stock. If you watch that data, it updates constantly as new bids or offers are made.

I've never used Etrade, but I have used Ameritrade and was happy with the service. I had Apple stock years ago that I bought at 17 dollars a share and sold at 40 when the market went stagnant for a couple months. Man I wish I had bought some more and sat on it. Apple looks like it's getting close to splitting again, so this might be a good time to buy even though it's so high right now.
