This was the best concept for the thing! CGI and all, especially the shorts. I wonder if Mike might wear shorts for this one.

I was SO disappointed when they didn't use that design. That looks so much more monstrous than what we got. Massive traps, arms, hands, feet...heck EVERYTHING! No muscular definition (which is EXACTLY as the Thing should be)! MAN what I wouldn't give to have this version in FF2!

Not much of a choice there....how about....suit with some cgi changes????

Well, at this point that's about the best I can expect. Maybe some shorts? We'll see...

I felt the same way. But forced to choose between those two, I went with the suit. The Maquette is cool, but it's not perfect (Wobbly's variation of it was) and even if it was perfect, I'm not sold that a pure CGI character would work and be cost effective for this character given the current state of the art.

Ideally I'd like to see:

1. Suit made to look more like later Kirby Thing (particularly face)
2. Suit made to wrinkle less and move more naturally
3. Suit made more comfortable for M. C.
4. CGI used to "touch up" suit and fix wrinkles when needed
5. CGI and Prosthetics used when special dexterity, movement or close ups are required

The above fixes should help make the character more "real" on screen. Ultimately I'd like him to project the image of a massively powerful man with a skin of hard, rock-like plates rather than a guy in a rubber suit.

Oh, yeah, and the shorts would be cool too.

Man I am glad the film makers just laugh at you fanboys. That would have been horrible to have to endure seeing that on the screen for 120 minutes.

Worst part of this design is....

THEY PUT FREAKING BROWN EYES ON HIM!!!!!

Clearly whoever designed that, hasn't a clue about the Thing.

I loved the movie Thing look. That up there would have been a good design too. I've had that picture saved in my computer for more than a year now lol.

to be honest i dont think they look too different from each other. I def do not regret them going with the suit rather than cgi, in my opinion the cgi thing would take away the realism of the film too much. Also i dont think the audience would empathise with a cgi character as much as they would a guy in a suit.

Well despite your snide comment, here's hoping filmmakers aren't laughing at YOUR whining when Ironman comes out!

Although I do like the original concept, I prefer the final design that they went with in the film.

I've never posted images before so this is kind of a test.

That CGI model on the top looks ugly.
Wobbly's Thing looks really nice.

I like the movie version though. No big changes are necessary.

Whoops.
Well, Model, Concept same thing.
