This has been boggling my mind as of late. With recent Chrapstmas movies such as Christmas with the Kranks, Unaccompanied Minors, and Deck the Halls, will we ever see another bonafide Christmas classic? Or atleast a quality holiday movie, like Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story?

It really makes me sad, because now it seems that the Hollywood quality engine has now too run it's course on good Christmas-themed films. :csad:

You just saying that means.. Yes.. they are dead.

Maybe John Hughes will come out of retirement to write another classic ;)

Every one of us is a drummerboy, a wiseman, a jack frost, an elf, and a reindeer.
Sincerely,
The Christmas Club

Don't you...
Forget about me...

Actually...now that I think about...Elf could be considered a modern classic. I thought that movie was really cute and funny. :)

'Classic' Christmas movies don't come out every year, that is why to date we only have a handful that are considered so, but in the last five or so years there have been some good ones, like Elf and Bad Santa.

Oh yeah i completly forgot about Bad Santa, that was a great one.

Hahaha, Excellent. Billy Bob was hilarious in that.

I agree, most christmas films do well suck now days they do.

ohhhhh that would be soooo wickedly awesome.:o
i would for SURE crap my pants if that happened.

I don't see how you could make that declaration from one year. And Christmas Vacation was really pretty mediocre compared to the likes of Elf. And I'm not making my mind up about Unacompanied Minors until I see it (it strikes me as something I could enjoy based on the talent involved alone even if everything doesn't work for alot of critics). Deck the Halls was just such a clear swarm of utter $hyte going by the trailer and TV spots alone, I will never see that .

Christmas Story is a quality, nice movie that really shouldn't be obsessed about like it seems to be by alot of people, especially the Time Warner brass. It really doesn't need to be seen more than once a decade, it isn't good enough for that.

Considering most movies in all genres are mediocre at best today, why would Christmas movies be different?

They just need to stop showing it for a solid 24 hours every year. That would take care of the problem.

As far as Christmas movies not being as good as they used to be, the genre has TWO classics at its beginning: "Miracle On 34th Street" and "It's A Wonderful Life", not to mention all the animated TV specials from the '60s in between. So the downward spiral was kind of inevitable. It'll hit rock-bottom about the time they decide to remake "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians"...which, at this rate, should be sometime next year.

agreed... easily the best christmas movie to come out in a great many years. it was very heartfelt and genuinely funny.

i never cared for the other 'classics' though... like a chrismas story, or christmas vacation. i just never thought they were very good... or funny.

but Bad Santa was awesome!..lol i laughed for like 20min when he gave the stripper pocket change
