Are there certain kinds of Fanboys that annoy you? - Part 1

I have a lot of fun watching Batman and Robin too....very funny movie. The fanboys that annoy me are NOT the ones that don't like or hate the movie, the fanboys that annoy me are the ones who attack others who say that they enjoy it.

I'm not a Batman fanboy (liked Begins more than TDK for instance). I just have a special dislike for what Shumaucher did to the franchise, probably because I grew up with the Tim Burton films that I loved. They were the first superhero movies that took its subject somewhat seriously (some say the Superman films from the 70's did, but I just found them so boring). When Schumaucher reset the clock on the gothic darkness that Burton had brought to the films, making Bats a smiling, campy hero and saddling him with corny sidekicks and turning Gotham into a day-glo neon nightmare, it was kinda disheartening. I felt Schumaucher didn't respect the character or the audience that Burton had brought to the franchise. If you like it, that's cool though. Different strokes for different folks.

I can understand why you feel that way. But to me, it's not that schumacher didn't respect the character, it's more that he wanted to adapt the Adam West show. And you can totally see how much WB execs screw with his work because they wanted to sell more toys. It's quite evident in Batman and Robin, because Batman Forever was a much darker tale (and could have been even darker if they didn't delete some great scenes). I think those movies can still be enjoyed, if we take them for what they are: lighter batmovies, more grounded in the Westverse than in the Burtonverse. And that's why I like Batman: because the mythos is so rich everybody can find something to love.

I don't hate, but I am genuinely baffled as to how fanboys can think Green Lantern is a good movie and not a complete, tragic waste of potential.

I mean sure, enjoy it all you want, knock yourself out. But don't try to say it's a good movie. Just embrace the fact that it's a steaming pile of ****e, doesn't make you a lesser person.

That's why I know Green Lantern, Daredevil and Superman III/IV suck.

Daredevil doesn't deserve to be in the same league as Green Lantern. It's vastly superior, the directors cut is anyway.

Well it adds about half hour of character development. It's still not great, but it makes Daredevil's character arc much better. It's still got that god awful playground scene though

But still, even as an average to good film, it's about a trillion times better than GL.

The theatrical cut was really bad indeed. but I agree with themorningstar, the director's cut is a whole different movie. For instance, when Matt is in bed with Elektra and he hears someone screaming, he doesn't stay in bed, unlike in the theatrical cut. He goes out to save the person. and he investigates on a murder case etc...

I think no matter what version of that I watched, Matt Damon didn't look good as the Daredevil. Especially when he tried to get really emotional..and that playground fight scene...ekh.

The director cut is notably better, and it removes that nonsensical scene with Elektra when Matt and her walk on the street talking before the scene she goes behind him and he asks if she wants payback.

I'm annoyed by fanboys who completely lose their spit anytime they see a drawing of Batman in a blue cape instead of a black one because they think the campier days of the Batman comics were so horrible. Ignoring how incredibly fun the campy stuff was, some of the best serious Batman tales of the 70's were written while he was wearing blue.

Aye, my all time favourite Batman story is from the late 70s, it's called 'Murder in the Night', people might think I'm nuts to have this tale as my fav BM story, because it involves a somewhat hokey sci-fi plot, but it's my fav because BM makes some mistakes along the way and ends up in the position of facing a foe he cannot defeat alone, but, ultimately, with a little help and luck, he wins the day. It's great because you rarely see BM on the ropes like this, and chastising himself for being overconfident.
