on paper, i'm a republican. i'm indifferent about the gun stuff but it irks me when I see people posting their gun stash on social media or just proud of being a gun owner or whatever. and, I think I'm a believe in god.

Sawyer, what is this?? A witch hunt? :sly:

I have to ask... What prompted this? And by "this" I mean Sawyer actively participating in the Community section again.

Boredom/mild desire to create a Sarah Palin Dubstep remix. :o

I like cheese and I'm Canadian. What does that add up to?

I've deduced from this poll and this thread that Sawyer is Sarah Palin.

Shouldn't this be in the politics forum? I have no desire to own a gun, but I support those that do.

Because my making fun of Sarah Palin in thread form isn't entirely politically relevant.

You know, I'm fairly opinionated, and critical of Republicans, but I really wonder if Sarah Palin has had brain damage. I've seen my share of fear mongering, and over-the-top nonsense, but that rambling speech she gave at the Trump rally and the way her family is imploding... she really may need psychological help.

Those who sit there listening to Sarah Palin and say "Damn, I agree with her" are people that may need to reflect on their lives. Not an anti-Republican or anti-conservative post. Just an anti-Palin post.

I'm a progressive liberal who owns guns but wants common sense gun laws and responsible regulations for guns. I believe in a higher power. I don't go to Church. Not sure I'm a Christian. Freedom of all religion is important. I despise Sarah Palin, and her neurotic behavior. Hope that answers your question, Sawyer.

Sad to say, I have come to the conclusion that the political system is so broken that it may be that government is now incapable of being effective.

I would consider myself a social libertarian and in some ways an admirer of the concept of exercising restraint in order to prevent an ever-expanding and bureaucratic central governmental. By the same token, however, I'm not opposed to a certain degree of socialism along with capitalism because that's what we have now; and imo socialization of health care and higher education make sense.

But what I see on both ends of the political spectrum is this: a handful of simple core concepts that are worthwhile get extended to extreme and absurd lengths, and the system of thought becomes a dogma. The primary motivation that drives political parties is to beat the other team at all costs. It's basically equivalent to a sports contest, but in which the stakes is political power. There is then no sober, rational, scientific search for truth and the most viable solution. There is no willingness to compromise (which is by definition essential for government to work). I see that equally on both extreme ends of the spectrum. And those extreme ends run both liberal and conservative parties. The candidates must appease the extreme base of party in order to even get the nomination. Once elected politicians must obey the party machine to continue to serve. They are punished if they buck the party line, and usually won't be back for a second term if they do.

Even more disheartening is the fact that, at least in the U.S., both sides are beholden to the various interests that write the biggest donation checks that are essential to getting elected.

Politicians do little more than posture that they are truly out to help the "little guy." Best I can see, in reality they simply protect big interests to which they are beholden, whether they are politically liberal or conservative.

I'm pretty much with this dude (except that I don't own any guns). But I was born and raised Roman Catholic, haven't been to church in years.

She doesn't need to have brain damage to have psychological issues. She clearly does have some kind of psychological issue(s) going on but I doubt anyone can diagnose it from just the rantings she does on television.

That said I think she has paranoia, egotistic tendencies and a persecution complex which ironically, she has made happen in reality by some of the outrageous comments she has made.

Given Trump's own ego and outlandish behavior it's natural she would support him.
