I'm not going to get in this debate, but for those who are lazy (like me) could you sum up the arguments presented and ultimate conclusions of that article?
The Olicity romance has been handled so badly in season 3 by the writers that those fans who DID find the couple cute and somewhat compatible in the beginning were turned off, I've read dozens of post where people declare that they are disappointed with the development of the Oliver/Felicity relationship, although they liked their interaction in season two. It is also a fact that the on screen reality oftentimes doesn't live up to fans' expectations and fantasies, especially when it comes to shipping. When Olicity became "real", it wasn't as chemistry-laden and terrific as people had imagined, and that may also be a reason for the backlash. It is also a fact that many fans enjoyed/liked the Oliver/Felicity relationship much more when it was purely platonic.
That the article in a nutshell

Fantastic article, she perfectly summed up how I've been feeling about it all.
