I saw the movie and while the box office, while disappointing starting, is making money. First of all: the movie is good. Paul Dini said it was okay, Donner and other people involved in past Superman projects gave out positive remarks, the fans from sites like Bluetights and Newsarama like it, even you guys said you liked it too after seeing it. Yet, this movie has some flaws that has some people wondering on future films including the comics.
DC; you own the character. You have a saying on films on your characters much like Marvel does. I believe you need a Avi Avad on the movie projects to oversee things and to make sure everything is done right.
This is what should be done on the sequel:
1) Singer should come back. Not only because of a second chance but because he can/will double the excitement. Look at X-Men 1 and X2, X2 had more so than X-Men 1 because he didn't have to deal with the introduction. Also, run thru things with Singer and WB on how the sequel will be accepted by all fans.
2) The storyline on the sequel should be more inline with the comics and the arcs. I want the film to be based on the FOR TOMORROW arc, & ACTION COMICS #662. #662 because Lois should be more friendly to Clark and start being friends instead of dismissing him. And Clark should reveal to Lois he's Superman because by keeping it from the woman he loves, he's already lying to her and needs to make things right. As for the FOR TOMORROW arc: not the whole story but the Middle East part of it. Superman tries to settle things down with whats going on today but sees that its a different world and that's his stand on American's ideals aren't working even today. And that some people would see hin as an enemy.
3) I know that you gotta have Lex Luthor. And maybe that's right for a sequel but there should be another villain that is new and hasn't been seen in movies that should be the MAIN villian. Luthor should use that money he got and get started on his company. That way he is in a place that Superman can't simply go in and drop him off at the prison. The new villian should be either Brainiac (due to the New Krypton in space that could have been altered somehow by either aliens or by itself) or Metallo (that could be an old enemy of Luthor's that he then turns into a man-machine powered by kryptonite).
4) There shouldn't be any changes to the cast. The cast worked out great. The most talked about is Kate Bosworth. I believe she worked out on the Lois Lane (lovely and friendly) that she is the comics now. So that there is fine. She just needs more spunk at the newsroom and when she's on the job. I just don't know if a recast of her would affect the continuity from SR and its sequel(s).
5) On WB's part: if the money is a problem (well they might be to blame on the 60 Million addition) they should lower it to around 150,000,000 (above X2's budget but around Spider-Man 1's budget).
6) Last but not least: the kid, Jason. I hate the fact that they consider Superman in SR as a home wrecker. He doesn't do anything that would break the Richard/Lois relationship. The only person that is the focus of all this is the kid. Since its oblivious its Superman's child, it should be Superman, Lois and Jason and Richard should know the truth. The fact that he respects Superman anyway makes me believe Richard will understand. Which is also why I want Clark to reveal his identity to Lois.
I hop this can be a reality. Remember, you have a saying.
P.S. If you could now, or already know, please tell WB to put out an extended edition of SR with all the stuff they cut out back in?
