Well the reality I told everyone of long ago (sad that I was right) is setting in imo...

SR is a good movie. Not doing well enough at BO though.

So where do we go from here?

Will we get a sequel?

Will Singer be back?

Same cast?

Discuss...

will get sequel, singer may be out, cast me get some chcnages but Routh will stay. Be too much of a hassle to change lead. story maybe sort of a restart in a birthright sense. i dunno

WB will not admit that they make a mistake hiring BS, even if the final BO tally falls short of expectations. The most likely scenary is that they'll give Singer list of things they want to see in the sequel that they believe will make more money for them. WB is still in it to make money and as much as they want to give Singer all the creative control he wants they still have to look at it from business standpoint, especially since it's doubtful SR will be able to break even when you factor all the production costs from the past decade.

if the sequal happens singer will be in. wb can tell him to put in more action and stuff to get more box office but im sure the heads of wb recognise that bryan singer has made a truly superb movie and with there suggestions could make a profitable one as well.

and im sure the sequal will happen

As a previous poster mentioned...Singer will be back only this time, the WB will have him on a tighter leash.

A tight leash is why he left Fox. If Warners wants a movie that'll make money, Singer will leave. If Singer won't give them a movie that'll make money, they'll exit him. It's a little early to tell, but if SR doesn't show itself to have some serious legs, then Supes may be going into hybernation for a while until Warners can re-launch the franchise.

^ No, Singer left FOX because they were taking forever to sign him to a new contract for X3. Warners came up with an offer...he took it.

Now i'm not saying they're going to put him on a leash per se, but moreso just be a little stricter on what their going to let him do.

Like you know how he said that the "Return to Krypton" sequence (or was it another sequence they talked about?) wasn't scripted and Singer just told the execs that he wanted to shoot it and the WB just LET HIM, providing the resources and all?...yeah I doubt that's gonna happen with Superman IV.

They're going to be a tad more hands-on next go around...just a tad. But it wont be FOX status.

If the movie keeps under performing at the BO, then there's no way WB is going to bring Singer back. They brought him onboard because he promised to deliver them Spider-Man 2 type numbers, and he had the credentials to back his claims up. Warners bit, and trusted him with 260 million, which is looking more and more like he spent poorly. When you loose large ammounts of studio money, they aren't to welcome you back next time you want to make another expensive movie. He had his shot, and from the looks of it he missed the mark. WB isn't going to give him a second chance, because he opted for a bigger budget instead. Both of them bet the farm and lost.

My predictions regarding SR have almost all come true thus far, with very eerie accuracy. Lord help me, I'm turning into some kind of a prophet of doom! :doom:

Just expect there to be more action in the movie, nothing will change very much besides a huge blow-out between Superman adn a villain.....

I just don't want Superman to fall victim to being a movie that relies on visuals and big explosive battle scenes instead of story. If that's what the public wants out of Superman then that is sad.

Same thing happened with Batman Begins. Batman relied on storyline more than explosive battle scenes and he didn't do as well at the BO. In fact, didn't FF do better at the BO than Batman Begins?

Nope. FF made 150 mil whereas BB made 205 mil.

Batman earned his money the hard way though, with a very strong word-of-mouth. FF came out huge but then quickly fizzled out...

The sequel will happen. The crew will be changed. Maybe Bosworth as well in favor of a bigger audience draw for Lois...

Hahaha...yeah, but Fanatastic Four cost less, and made more money overseas, so in the end, FF had better profits...far better.

I think most people are kind of put off to the whole "Superhomewrecker" debicle though. Is the story really salvageable?

Off topic:
I hate the fact that they consider Superman in SR as a homewrecker. He doesn't do anything that would break the Richard/Lois relationship. The only person that is the focus of all this is the kid.

On topic:
Singer will be back. The story will be more in based with the comics (i.e. For Tomorrow on the ideal Superman stood for isn't working anymore) like Singer did for X2 (God Loves, Man Kills storyline). No changes in cast, but more work will be done on their characters. If the money is the problem, they'll lower it. I'm hoping that they'll lower it to somethign around 150,000,000, Spider-Man 1's budget.

But before they do that: extended edition of SR.

P.S. Contacting WB is a less possibility. So how about we contact DC Comics via e-mail since they own the character and tell them what we want for sequels. Start out with "Movie is good, but there are some flaws and this is what we/I want" and then start on your list.

I foresee WB giving Singer another chance on the proviso that he be more compliant with the studio's demands...starting with a powerhouse villain (i.e. someone who will actually look good on the peg next to Mattel's Action-Smash Superman), less Donner homages (likely relegated to the John Williams theme music, a slightly-redesigned 'anti-theft' Fortress, and no more 'Gump-El' shots), a brighter-looking suit, and more all-out action. They'll also demand a shorter running time and cheaper shooting locations if the same sets aren't still standing, and possible product placement up the yazoo. After SR's poor showing, Singer is probably going to be rethinking his attitude on being allowed to do what he wants a little bit.

The actors are already under contract for a sequel, so I'm guessing that being the relative newbie that he is, Routh will be the safe bet who will stick around, and be permitted at WB's insistence to put his own stamp on the role and seriously downplay the Reeve impersonation. Spacey might consent for the right amount of money and if he can get all his scenes done in one fell swoop and get outta there like Hackman, but Bosworth might want to move on from a flop. Which is good, since WB will probably want to recast Lois with someone a bit older anyway.

This is what I sent to DC on SR 2:

I saw the movie and while the box office, while disappointing starting, is making money. First of all: the movie is good. Paul Dini said it was okay, Donner and other people involved in past Superman projects gave out positive remarks, the fans from sites like Bluetights and Newsarama like it, even you guys said you liked it too after seeing it. Yet, this movie has some flaws that has some people wondering on future films including the comics.

DC; you own the character. You have a saying on films on your characters much like Marvel does. I believe you need a Avi Avad on the movie projects to oversee things and to make sure everything is done right.

This is what should be done on the sequel:

1) Singer should come back. Not only because of a second chance but because he can/will double the excitement. Look at X-Men 1 and X2, X2 had more so than X-Men 1 because he didn't have to deal with the introduction. Also, run thru things with Singer and WB on how the sequel will be accepted by all fans.

2) The storyline on the sequel should be more inline with the comics and the arcs. I want the film to be based on the FOR TOMORROW arc, & ACTION COMICS #662. #662 because Lois should be more friendly to Clark and start being friends instead of dismissing him. And Clark should reveal to Lois he's Superman because by keeping it from the woman he loves, he's already lying to her and needs to make things right. As for the FOR TOMORROW arc: not the whole story but the Middle East part of it. Superman tries to settle things down with whats going on today but sees that its a different world and that's his stand on American's ideals aren't working even today. And that some people would see hin as an enemy.

3) I know that you gotta have Lex Luthor. And maybe that's right for a sequel but there should be another villain that is new and hasn't been seen in movies that should be the MAIN villian. Luthor should use that money he got and get started on his company. That way he is in a place that Superman can't simply go in and drop him off at the prison. The new villian should be either Brainiac (due to the New Krypton in space that could have been altered somehow by either aliens or by itself) or Metallo (that could be an old enemy of Luthor's that he then turns into a man-machine powered by kryptonite).

4) There shouldn't be any changes to the cast. The cast worked out great. The most talked about is Kate Bosworth. I believe she worked out on the Lois Lane (lovely and friendly) that she is the comics now. So that there is fine. She just needs more spunk at the newsroom and when she's on the job. I just don't know if a recast of her would affect the continuity from SR and its sequel(s).

5) On WB's part: if the money is a problem (well they might be to blame on the 60 Million addition) they should lower it to around 150,000,000 (above X2's budget but around Spider-Man 1's budget).

6) Last but not least: the kid, Jason. I hate the fact that they consider Superman in SR as a home wrecker. He doesn't do anything that would break the Richard/Lois relationship. The only person that is the focus of all this is the kid. Since its oblivious its Superman's child, it should be Superman, Lois and Jason and Richard should know the truth. The fact that he respects Superman anyway makes me believe Richard will understand. Which is also why I want Clark to reveal his identity to Lois.

I hop this can be a reality. Remember, you have a saying.

P.S. If you could now, or already know, please tell WB to put out an extended edition of SR with all the stuff they cut out back in?

The only suggestions WB will make are on the action front. You guys actually think that Singer doesn't want a supervillian in this franchise?

Seriously, do you think New Krypton growing in space was just a happy accident? Do you think Jor-El clearly stating twice in this film and in the original film that there are 28 KNOWN GALAXIES?

People, the best example is X-Men to X2. That's all that needs to be said under Singer's direction.

And Singer is not the one WB should keep a leash on. It's WB who should put a leash on WB. They've got to cut out the spending they did on this particular project over the years, which they will now that they have a film.

Knowing Singer, he's go a bit more darker in terms of drama and emotion in the sequel and the action will be effecting. You won't have to worry about how it'll actually look. The Plane Sequence is proof positive that Singer knows how to deliver the goods when it comes to visceral action with Superman.

IMO the direction SR was going in is just plain bad. I don't think that they should continue down this road, and that's what's going to happen if SR gets a sequel-- especially if Bryan Singer is directing it.

Blinker, DC is owned by WB which is owned by AOL-Time Warner. I'm sure they are on a very short leash of what they can say.

WB is putting on a brave face. They will respond saying something along the lines of "We are very pleased with the numbers for SR, at the time, details of the sequel are still being panned out"

When in reality heads are rolling behind the scenes.

Singer likely won't be brought back.

Look,

I WANT ANOTHER DAMN MOVIE!!!!

What do you want WB to do?

I doubt that.

My prediction:

New production staff to do a sequel. Director may end up being Brett Ratner (wouldn't that be a kick?) or J.J. Abrahams. Both just had hits and both want to do the character and neither have problems doing sequels. Maybe, just maybe if the stars align right...the Wachowski Bros will direct. They are comic nerds, want Superman, have made a ton of money for WB in the past and have a good working relationship with them to my knowledge. Plus if WB promises them their dream project (Plasticman) if Superman is a success...they will jump on board in a heart beat.

New Lois - someone with name recognition and star power. Kate Beckinsale and Rachel McAdams are currently the "it" girls...so I predict one of them.

they will do another origin movie.

the reason no one saw this one is because they were confused about the previous movies they had to watch.

Most people thought this was Superman 5 when it was actually Superman 3, see how confusing that is. There isn't going to be a sequal, ever, in 4 years time we will probaly see Superman: The Beginnig
