Asian Cinema = yay

Tetsuo: Iron Man
A strange man known only as the "metal fetishist", who seems to have an insane compulsion to stick scrap metal into his body, is hit and possibly killed by a Japanese "salaryman", out for a drive with his girlfriend. The salaryman then notices that he is being slowly overtaken by some kind of disease that is turning his body into scrap metal, and that his nemesis is not in fact dead but is somehow masterminding and guiding his rage and frustration-fueled transformation.

Duel to the Death
Set during the reign of the Ming Dynasty the warrior code and martial arts schools possess a great influence with Japan and China frequently claiming superiority over one another. To determine the true power of each nation every 10 years the most skilled swordsmen and warriors are selected to face each other in combat, in a duel to the death. Those selected to represent their countries for the next duel are Hashimoto (Tsui Siu-Keung), a Japanese ninja, and Ching Wan (Damian Lau), a legendary Chinese warrior but their attempts to honour their countries are fraught with deception and trickery as factions from both sides work to fulfil a predetermined political agenda to fix the outcome. Identifying the threat and staying true to their warrior code the duo must work together to ensure their battle is a fair one.

I purchased Hero and Dark Water last week. Haven't watched either yet. But just having them on the shelf waiting makes me feel happy inside.

SO this is my Asian cinema DVD collection...
Casshern (awesome however you look at it)
Returner
So Close (LOVE this film)
Bichunmoo
Musa the Warrior
Duel to the Death (sword fighting = yes please)
Azumi
Princess Blade
Shaolin Soccer
Hero
Dark Water

House of Flying Daggers and Hero are two of the best action movies ever(especially HOFD).

Ringu and The Eye are pretty effective horror films.

Ichi the Killer was...unique. I haven't seen Battle Royal yet but I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Hmmmm....I have to recommend The Stormriders. It's this purely fantasy fighter film that has some pretty interesting CGI FX in it. One of the highlight's of the movie is when one of the fighters who can control water and all sorts of other liquids rips his broken arm from it's socket and uses his own blood to fight the bad guy. But don't worry. Our hero gets himself an arm transplant from a poor peasant with a spunky daughter later on. Like I said, it's purely insane, fantasy.

I just saw Tetsuo yesterday. What a mind fornicater:confused:

2046 was also very good

I saw Olboy and Hero yesterday-

What is it about

Gyeon-woo is a single Korean college student, still not very sure of what he wants to become in the future. One night, on his way back home, he meets an extremely beautiful girl, but who is also completely drunk. Because the girl talked to Gyeon-woo before falling unconscious, the people surrounding them begin to think that the girl is Gyeon-woo`s girlfriend. Having no other choice than helping the girl, he decides to leave her in a motel, since he doesn't know were she lives. The next morning Gyeon-woo gets a call from this mysterious girl who is very angry about him and wants to know everything that happened the past night. She tells him to meet her right now at the exit of the metro. Gyeon-woo thinking about this, decides to go see the girl. From that night, Gyeon-woo and the girl will become good friends, in a strange sense. As the relation progresses, Gyeon-woo begins to discover how crazy the girls really is, with all her wacky behaviors, angry attitude and always wanting him to please her the way she wants, even if it mean that Gyeon-woo will pass for a complete idiot in public places or gets beaten by the girl. But even if Gyeon-woo suffer, physically and mentally, he really thinks that this beautiful girl will have some sorrow in her and he really wants to help her to get better. But at what price?

I'm not good with descriptions, so there..

It's like, the best movie ever.

Nobody seen "Ai No Corrida" then?

ok, ill leave it at that. Just a warning..its quite....sexual...although to dismiss it as porn would be foolish.

Whats Bichunmoo?
Korean swordsman flick, if my memory serves me.

Don't know how many of you have heard of the movie "The Truth About Jane and Sam". It's one of the best asian movies for me.

Whats Bichunmoo?

http://bichunshingi.gammaquadrant.net/

A Korean wuxia fick. It's one of the best things ever. It's like Romeo and Juliet with swordfighting, set in Mongol occupied china, with amazing costumes and visuals and really strong emotion. It's got enough plot for a trilogy, so you have to watch it twice to get everything (I've watched it looooooas of times, and I still pick up new details). It's also based on a comicbook, which explains a lot.

I prefer it to Hero. Admittedly the swordfighting is no way near as skillful, but it is more exciting. Main character Jinha is one of the coolest movie swordsmen of all time. And he leads the coolest band of ninjas of all time.

Basically, Bichunmoo is so cool I think I'm going to be sick everywhere.

I recently got Survive Style 5+ on DVD. Its a great japanese movie directed by a Japanese Commercial Director (so you know it has to be weird). Some reviews have called it Japan's Pulp Fiction.

Edit: oh yeah, it also stars Tadanobu Asano(Kakihara from Ichi the Killer), Vinnie Jones(He's going to be in X3 as Juggernaught and was in a bunch of Guy Ritchie's movies), and Sonny Chiba(Kill Bill and the Street Fighter) has a funny cameo.

So, tonight I watched Friend. It's incredible, this movie. I'm really surprised it hasn't garnered more buzz, here in the states. This is such a great film; you've all gotta check it out. Acting, story, characters, drama, everything - it's just so fantastic.
