To be relased in France in January 2008, they're finishing the shooting these days.
Clovis Cornillac replaces Christian Clavier in the role of Asterix, after the latter left the franchise for creative differnces. Gerard Depardieu is back as Obelix, and Alain Delon is the new Ceasar.

I wish they'd stop making these awful Asterix adaptations... :csad: I love the comic so much it hurts to see how badly these movies suck.

At least they've got Alain Delon now... that might be fun.

This new Asterix just looks too young, he looks in his twenties. He looks liek a French high-school jock. The previous actor looked just how you'd imagine Asterix to look. About forty, kindly but put-upon.

This film has cameos by David Beckham, Michael Schumacher and Zenedine Zidane!

Hmm, dunno about the new Asterix guy. Liked Clavier much better.

I've always thought Asterix movies would be best done as a CGI movie... it would so work with action and comedy plus the humour with Obelix and such could only be convincingly done in animation...

They did some Asterix animated (2D) movies in the seventies and eighties... Some of those were quite good.

Why did thay change Christian Clavier? He was awesome. The new Asterix doesn't look convincing at all.

Clavier was in a theater troop called "Le Splendid", french actor and director Gerard Jugnot was a part of this troop too, after the second Asterix movie, Jugnot was hired to direct the third movie, it was aimed to be a reunion movie for every member of "Le Splendid", but Albert Uderzo, Asterix creator, who was'nt happy with the second movie (i will never understand him on this point) put a hold on the movie developpement, and Jugnot was fired. With his friend fired, Clavier decided not to do the third movie at all.

Little Quizz: does anybody recognize the actor who plays Panoramix (the druid)? He died a few month ago but appeared in a superhero movie... (que les français présents ici ne répondent pas à cette question ce serait trop facile)

I've seen all the Asterix cartoon and live action films and the best ones are:

1. Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (live action)
2. Asterix in Britain (animated)

All the others ones, especially the first live-action one, sucked ass! As a die-hard fan since childhood, I really think the Asterix & Obelix:Mission Cleopatra live-action film was just awesome!

I don't know what to think of the new one - the guy playing Asterix and the guy playing panoramix both look like ******s. But either way, i'll be the first in line to see an english-subtitled version of it.
