Asteroids: The Movie

They're struggling to get the MGS movie off the ground, but they can do this?

Not only that but I hear Universal wants to make a candyland movie too.Hollywood is truly bankrupt of ideas.:o

What's really funny is that the article said that four studios were fighting to get the film rights. It will probably end up being some kind of disaster movie similar to Armageddon. What else can you really do with it?

Yea like if Asteroids is some sort of really hot property. Was anyone really clamouring for an asteroids movie? What's next Pac-Man or Centipede?

Can't wait for this to inspire a Geometry Wars movie.

LOL, well look at it this way.

Hollywood can't, in any way shape or form, make a good movie based off of a good video game. So by that logic, maybe they think that they can make a good film out of a really dumb and pointless game?

:waa::waa::waa::waa:

SCREW YOU HOLLYWOOD!!!!
WHERE ARE MY DC SUPERHERO MOVIES?!?!
WHERE IS MY GARGOYLES MOVIE!!!!
WHERE IS MY FREAKING METAL GEAR SOLID MOVIE WITH BALE AS SNAKE?!

No really. It's like Hollywood doesn't want money anymore....

Screw an Asteroids film, where's my pong movie?!?

You want to know what's going to be really scary? When the film is released, you'll have people complaining that they screwed up the mythology and story of the original.

Hey! THE SHIP ISN'T A TRIANGLE!!! IT'S A PYRAMID!!! HATE!!!
They raped my childhood!!

Also, where is my PETER JACKSON'S BIOSHOCK... that's right...
The movie based on a game based on a book

I got the perfect idea. Just make this the sequel to Armageddon & on the posters the title & tag line can be Asteroids: The sequel to Armageddon & bring Bruce Willis back to life & have the Asteroid's momma or something come to Earth looking for revenge in the form of a kick ass meteor shower & Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck & Michael Clarke Duncan & this time Billy Bob gets to go up in space to kick some Asteroid ass & include Will Smith & Bull Pullman & Jeff Goldblum & also make this ID:4 - 2 & to make this really wild throw in some of the Transformers army characters with Robots included

they got the writer from Race to Witch Mountain? Nasty.

This, Candyland, Monopoly and Battleship are all full of fail.

Hollywood isn't even trying to keep some dignity despite the fact that just about every thing has been done already.

Screw this..I want a Centipede movie.
Brrrrrrr. A giant CG Centipede crawling around would be nasty.

The Centipede arrives on earth. Take me to your leader it demands.
The hero, a young dude that works at geek squad, rushes in with a can of raid.
Teh centipide shouts as it slithers away, ''RAAAIIIIDDDD!!!!''

(sprays) KA-BLOOOOOM!! (centipede shrivels up and dies.)

Geek squad dude. "silly centipede, metal gear is where it's at''.

'Asteroids' lands at Universal
Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing game adaptation

Universal has won a four-studio bidding war to pick up the film rights to the classic Atari video game "Asteroids." Matthew Lopez will write the script for the feature adaptation, which will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

In "Asteroids," initially released as an arcade game in 1979, a player controlled a triangular space ship in an asteroid field. The object was to shoot and destroy the hulking masses of rock and the occasional flying saucer while avoiding smashing into both.

As opposed to today's games, there is no story line or fancy world-building mythology, so the studio would be creating a plot from scratch. Universal, however, is used to that development process, as it's in the middle of doing just that for several of the Hasbro board game properties it is translating to the big screen, such as "Battleship" and "Candyland."

Senior vp of production Jeff Kirschenbaum will oversee the project for Universal.

Di Bonaventura's next outing is "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," which Paramount is set to open Aug. 7.

Lopez came out of Disney's writing program and worked on that studio's recent movies "Bedtime Stories" and "Race to Witch Mountain." He also wrote the most recent draft of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," currently in production with Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel starring.

Lopez and Atari are repped by ICM.

So, any gentlemen's bets on how long 'til "Tetris: The Movie" comes out? :o
