The conclusion to the Mysterious series of Atelier games.
Atelier-Lydie-Suelle-West_09-22-17.jpg

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is coming to North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in early 2018, publisher Koei Tecmo announced.

In Japan, the game is due out this winter for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita.

Here’s an overview of the game, via Koei Tecmo:

This latest entry to Gust’s popular Atelier franchise continues from Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey, concluding the Mysterious series with an all-new heart-warming narrative.

The gripping conclusion to the Mysterious series marks the 20th Anniversary for the Atelier franchise, following the tale of the alchemist twins – the reserved but caring Lydie Marlen, and the eccentric and carefree Suelle Marlen. The young twins work alongside their father at the family atelier, but due to his inexperience in alchemy they rarely see any customers.

While working hard to hone their skills, the duo uncovers a mysterious-looking painting, and as they reach out to investigate the girls are drawn inside a world bountiful with rare materials… perfect for Alchemy! This fateful discovery is just the beginning of the twin’s adventure leading them to their joint goal… to run the best atelier in the country.

An alchemist whose unrivaled love for traveling has brought her to various places. She has gotten much taller, and her appearance has become quite mature. However, her personality is still the same as ever, and she continues to be friendly by nature. Her alchemy abilities have progressed considerably, and the atelier she opened in Melveille immediately flourished. She was taught how to use a bow by her older sister Liane, and is also training as a hunter.

An alchemist invited directly by the country to set up an atelier in Melveille. Although half-forced to become Lydie and Suelle’s teacher, she is naturally helpful and is enthusiastic about the twins, and guides them as a reliable teacher. Her alchemy abilities are about equal to Firis’. However, she is never upfront and meddlesome as always.

—Ilmeria, who has grown as an alchemist, becomes Lydie and Suelle’s teacher. She demonstrates her “genius” style with full swing when teaching alchemy to the twins.
Roger Marlen

    • Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu
    • Illustrated by: NOCO
    • Age: 35
    • Height: 179cm
    • Occupation: Alchemist / Painter

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-02-17_008.jpg
Lydie and Suelle’s real father. He is nothing but a failure when it comes to alchemy, but possesses prodigious talent as a painter. He has a frank and lazy personality, and wasteful habits. For that reason, the twins often berate him as a “no good father.” He has a mad scientist side, concocting new recipes only to fail and cause the alchemy pot to explode.

—An explosion occurs during synthesis, and Roger is so useless that he blames the girls and runs away. Lydie and Suelle don’t seem to know what to do with their father, who is lazy about everything.
? The Goal: To Run the Best Atelier in the Country
The twins are set on the goal of “running the best atelier in the country,” but how can they become the “best in the country” to begin with? An official notice from the kingdom appears before the troubled twins.
An “Atelier Rank System,” by which a rank determines your atelier’s true performance, has been implemented. If you can reach the highest rank, your atelier may just become “the best atelier in the country”!

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-02-17_010.jpg
Consult Your “Ambitions Notebook” to Increase Your Atelier’s Reputation
In order to increase your Atelier Rank, it is necessary to take a test issued by the kingdom. And in order to take that test, it is necessary to increase your atelier’s reputation. Lydie, worried about how to increase their atelier’s reputation, notices Suelle is writing something in a notebook.
—The “Ambitions Notebook” is a “secret plan to increase the atelier’s reputation” notebook written by Suelle. Use this as a basis for your actions to increase your atelier’s rank.

The Road to Increasing Your Atelier Rank
By taking actions based on the Ambitions Notebook while going to and from the real world and the mysterious worlds of paintings, your atelier’s reputation will reach the kingdom and you will be able to take the rank-up test at the castle. By increasing your rank, you will come across new mysterious paintings, so try to do it as much as possible.
—Collect materials and battle monsters in the mysterious worlds of paintings. Handle each “ambition” bit by bit and grow while increasing your atelier’s reputation.

—The Ambitions Notebook of course has alchemy-related ambitions. If you can synthesize various items with rare materials, you will surely increase your reputation.
—By fulfilling the numerous ambitions written in the Ambitions Notebook, you will be able to take a rank-up test at the castle. Gradually realize your ambitions in order to increase your rank.
—By increasing your Atelier Rank, you will happen across new mysterious paintings. Since the materials you can collect differ for each mysterious painting’s world, the scope of items that you can synthesize will noticeably increase. What world will you encounter next?
? Combination Battles and Battle Mix
The battle system uses a front and rear, two-person team-based “Combination Battle” system where a maximum of three teams can participate. There is also a “Battle Mix” system that enables synthesis during battle, welcoming a more strategic and expansive type of battle.
—Battles are turn-based and see the player choose actions for each character. Depending on the chosen action, the time until the next action and turn order will change.

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-02-17_018.jpg
—By meeting certain conditions after a front teammate’s actions, the rear teammate can trigger a “Follow Skill.” There are various Follow Skills that support the front teammate that require different conditions to trigger.
—If Lydie or Suelle are in the rear, the player can trigger “Battle Mix” to synthesize an item during battle. “Battle Recipes” can be used to synthesize items that can only be created during battle to gain the upper hand.
Follow the Twins with Support Guard
When Lydie or Suelle receive an attack, an ally can protect them with “Support Guard.” Only characters outside of the protagonists can use Support Guard. Doing so will have them receive the damage in place of Lydie or Suelle.
Attack Everyone at Once with Combination Arts
When using a team of a specific combination, super special moves called “Combination Arts” can be used. Combination Arts can be triggered by teams formed of characters that are in good coordination with each other.
? The Mysterious Worlds of Paintings
The worlds in the mysterious paintings that the twins can visit are worlds said to be separated from the world of everyday life. Stepping into these worlds not only changes the scenery, but also the atmosphere.
—Suelle’s eyebrows lower and her eyes shake. She cannot hide her uneasiness, perhaps because she is away from the warmth o everyday life that she has known up until now. There are various mysterious paintings in this game, and each painting features a completely different world.

Mysterious Painting World: “Noisy Forest”
A forest filled with warped trees and where the moon idly floats in the sky. There are endlessly noisy voices and a feeling of not knowing whether you’re being watched. It seems that there are rare materials to collect in this forest.
—-In-game screenshot.

—Imageboard.
Mysterious Painting World: Enfer Great Falls
A world with an active volcano and a boiling waterfall of lava. A silhouette that appears to be some sort of stone monument can be seen within the flames. It is said that a ferocious fire dragon is living in this world…
—-In-game screenshot.

—Imageboard.
? Adventure with the Protagonists of Previous Mysterious Games
Firis and Sophie, who have gone on many journeys and adventures, and have grown even more in Atelier Lydie & Suelle, are also interested in the worlds of paintings. What will they see, what will they think, and what will they reveal this time around?

? First-Print Bonus: Marie and Elie Costumes
First-print copies of Atelier Lydie & Suelle will include a Marie costume for Lydie from Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg and an Elie costume for Suelle from Atelier Elie: The Alchemist of Salburg 2.
—Atelier Marie costume for Lydie.

—Atelier Elie costume for Suelle.
Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita in Japan on December 21, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in North America and Europe in early 2018.

    • Occupation: Alchemist

The only daughter of “Atelier Voltaire,” the most well-known atelier in Melveille, the imperial capital. As Lydie and Suelle’s childhood friend, she has a rival-like relationship with the twins. In addition to her graceful appearance, she puts on the act of being nice and addresses everyone respectfully, and is thus considered to be a flower beyond anyone’s reach. However, she is actually black-hearted and ambitious.
—Lusia’s 3D model.

—While Lusia is high-handed and prideful, she easily feels lonely. If she is not shown any attention, she will sulk. She also considers herself quite the tactician, but since that is quickly exposed as a lie, those around her watch over her with care.

Alto

    • Voiced by: Takuma Nagatsuka
    • Illustrated by: Yuugen
    • Age: ??
    • Height: 160cm
    • Occupation: Alchemist
    • Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-15-17_005.jpg

A boy with an androgynous appearance who runs a secret atelier in Melveille. He has extremely high alchemy abilities, and boasts of top class ability among Melveille’s emerging atelier district. He has a cool and sarcastic personality. There is also a cold atmosphere about him as if to push others away.
—Alto’s 3D model.

—Alto, whose alchemy abilities are of a high level, tends to look down on alchemists who show off their half-baked abilities. But you may see another side to him as he opens his heart. While it seems he will become a member of the party, what are his true colors?

Plachta

    • Height: ??cm
    • Occupation: Alchemist

An alchemist journeying with the traveling alchemist Sophie. As Sophie’s alchemy master, she considers her to be both a close friend and family. She has a serious and calm personality, but can also be somewhat careless. With her wealth of knowledge in the field of alchemy, she will support and watch over Lydie and company.
—Plachta has a different, more womanly appearance now compared to when she first met Sophie. What could be the reason for such a drastic change in the way she looks?

Fritz Weissberg

    • Voiced by: Kenyuu Horiuchi

    • Age: 59
    • Height: 171cm
    • Occupation: Swordsman / Doll Maker

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-15-17_012.jpg

A traveling doll maker and swordsman, as well as Drossel’s father. While traveling together, Fritz and Drossel make a stop in Melveille. Even at his old age, he continues to study, and continues to develop both his skills as a doll maker and as a swordsman. While his personality completely changes whenever he sees a doll, he is usually an intellectual character who always makes calm judgments.
—Fritz has extraordinary enthuasiasm when it comes to dolls. He also has considerable interest in “Mysterious Paintings,” which are in the same field of art. However, since nowadays he keeps a watchful eye over his daughter, who often gets lost, his stomach tends to hurt.

Drossel Weissberg

    • Voiced by: Ari Ozawa
    • Illustrated by: Yuugen
    • Age: 30
    • Height: 165cm
    • Occupation: Playwright / Doll Maker

A traveling playwright. She has an extremely naive and cheerfully noisy personality. She is traveling with her father Fritz, and has a dream of one day putting on the best puppet show ever. Her love for dolls is of equal match to her father. She has favorable career prospects as a playwright, and is also making her debut as a shrewd novelist.
—As a bookworm, Drossel tends to surprise others with her knowledge. With her father’s recent stomach pains, she is seemingly becoming aware of the trouble she is putting him through.

? The Story of Lydie and Suelle, Travelers of Mysterious Paintings
Fascinated by the mysterious paintings in their basement, Lydie and Suelle are drawn into the paintings’ worlds. With never before scene landscapes and valuable materials spread out before them, the twins could not contain their curiosity. The twins’ story begins when they encounter their first mysterious painting.
—By synthesizing the materials obtained in mysterious paintings, the twins can create items never before created. But even when the twins bring up talk of the mysterious paintings to their father Roger, he does not take them seriously.

—In the basement is a painting with a warm atmosphere. Why is it that the twins are able to jump into the world of this painting?

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-15-17_017.jpg

The Goal: Become “The Best Atelier in the Country
The “Atelier Rank System” is a new system that has been established in the country. In order to reach the highest rank in this system, the twins will spend each day working hard synthesizing and adventuring. Along the way, after the twins have grown a bit, they will be asked by the kingdom to investigate the mysterious paintings.
—The twins listen to the receptionist explain the rank-up test in detail at the royal castle. The test seems simple at first glance, but…

—Thinking that it will be difficult to pass the test through self-study, the twins hope to become the apprentices of the “Super Top Class Alchemist” Ilmeria. Will that guarantee success?
—After finishing the rank-up test, the twins are asked to investigate the mysterious paintings. After going into the world of a new painting with their escort Matthias, they join up with Lusia, who arrived before them. It appears that the country has been requesting talented alchemists to investigate.

Investigate Mysterious Paintings
There is not just one mysterious painting in Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paitings. Also, it is necessary to repair a painting in order to enter its world, and creating the special item required to do that is not straight forward. Borrowing the powers of everyone helping them, Lydie and Suelle will synthesize the items necessary to repair the paintings.
—When a painting gets old, it loses its power as a mysterious painting, and a mysterious painting tool called “The Paints of Neige” is required to repair it. In order to synthesize this, the twins will seek out the help of Firis.

? Create Items with Particular Effects through Activation Item Synthesis
The synthesis system applies materials through simple, puzzle-like operation. Here, we will introduce the newly added “Activation Item Synthesis” of this game.
Use Activation Items to Create New Effects
Activation Items are special items that can be added to a synthesis whenever you like, but only once per synthesis. The effects of Activation Items differ depending on the item. For example, one effect changes the colors of colored squares that already have materials placed in them each to different colors. Another effect changes the same colored squares next to the selected square all to the same color.
—Here, we see the attack item “Ori Flam” being created without the use of an Activation Item. By checking the effects indicated on the right side of the screen, you can see that it will have effects such as “Fire Damage – Strong.”

—By skillfully placing an Activation Item into the panel, new effects will appear. There may even be a character cut-in when creating a seemingly good item. By using the same materials and following the same process to create the aforementioned Ori Flam, but adding in an Activation Item, the new effect “Defense Power Down – Average” appears.

—By using Activation Items, you can create items all your own with more convenient and particular effects.

? Synthesize Powerful Combat Items in Battle
Two of the new elements in this game are “Battle Mix” and “Extra Mix,” which allow protagonists Lydie and Suelle to synthesize items during battle.
Battle Mix
With Battle Mix, you can create items with various effects to use immediately in battle using the items you have gathered as ingredients. A Battle Mix can be activated when the character in the front of a two-person team meets certain requirements. When doing so, a “Battle Recipe” will appear on the screen, allowing you to select the necessary materials.
—In order to use Battle Mix, mysterious items called “Archeus Anima” are required. These items can only be obtained in the worlds of mysterious paintings.

—When Lydie or Suelle are in the rear of their two-person team, they can activate a Battle Mix when the character in the front meets certain requirements. Those requirements differ for Lydie and Suelle.

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_10-15-17_027.jpg

Extra Mix
An Extra Mix is a synthesis that uses a battle-use item originally synthesized through a Battle Mix to create an even stronger battle-use item. After choosing the item you want to synthesize in the Battle Recipe screen, you can add more Archeus Anima than specified to possibly give the resulting item an even stronger effect.
—In Extra Mix, after taking over the effect of the item used as a material, an Extra Mix-exclusive “Ex Effect” is added. Use this to create super powerful items you could not create in normal synthesis, like a Big Bang Flam with a Mega Bomb as an Ex Effect.

—It is no dream that you can use Extra Mix to synthesize super powerful items that can turn the tides of battle. The effects vary from item to item, so use Extra Mix to make super powerful items all your own.

? The Worlds of Mysterious Paintings and the Real World
Lydie and Suelle’s story will be told as they travel between two truly different worlds. While meeting new people and experiencing events they could never imagine, the twins will inch ever closer toward their dream.

Mysterious Painting World: “Frozen Time Palace”
Towering over a forest of frost-covered trees is a palace where everything is frozen. What awaits in this palace where the beds, walls, and even time are frozen?

Strengthening Your Bonds
As you encounter people in Melveille, certain characters will trigger events. Through these character events, you will be able to see different sides of these characters than you normal, and touch upon important feelings and thoughts. Be sure to actively go around the capital to visit your friends.
Grown Sophie and Plachta

He comes off as highhandedly, but is actually cheerful and easy-going.

? Make Superior Items with Skillful Synthesis
The panel-like synthesis system of Atelier Lydie & Suelle sees players inserting ingredients into boxes on a panel. By putting in items that add new effects to the synthesis, such as catalyst and activation items, you can synthesize even more useful items.
Make Skillful Use of Catalyst Bonuses
During synthesis, by putting in items known as catalysts, you can change the amount of panels or manifest catalyst bonus marks that possess special effects onto the panel. Catalyst bonus mark effects only occur when placing ingredients in the proper box, and the placement and effect of the catalyst bonus mark varies depending on the catalyst. Aim to synthesis even better items by skillfully combining synthesis items and catalysts.
—The main types of bonuses consists of an increase / decrease in quality, an increase / decrease in the amount of special characteristics that carry over, an increase / decrease in effect level (the effect bar on the right side of the screen when selecting materials, etc.), an increase / decrease in the amount you can create, etc. It is important to choose the best catalyst based on the items you use for synthesis.
Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_11-12-17_007.jpg
—Depending on the items you use for synthesis, the special characteristics possessed by the ingredients may carry over. By combining things such as catalysts that increase the number of special characteristics that carry over, you may be able to create an even better item.

Utilizing the Effects of Activation Items
There are several types of activation items, and each possesses a different effect. Since there are some activation items that effect every box by their simple use, as well as activation items that change the colors of the boxes, how you place ingredients and which activation items you use is important.
Here we will look at syntheses using the same ingredients and same placements, but with different activation items.
—Here is a situation where an activation item was not used. The colors of the boxes are scattered, and colors unrelated to the effect level can be seen.

—Activation Item Effect: Change
By using an activation item with the “Change” effect, the colors of the all the colored boxes in which ingredients have already been placed will each change to different colors.

—Activation Item Effect: Adjacent Recoloring
When an ingredient has been placed on a colored box, the adjoining boxes of the same color will become the same color. The color change depends on the activation item.

—Activation Item Effect: Insertion
When an ingredient has been placed on a colored box, the squares extending horizontally, vertically, and diagonally from that box will change color. The color change depends on the activation item.

—Activation Item Effect: Total Recoloring
When an ingredient has been placed on a colored box, all of the boxes of the same color as that box will change color. The color change depends on the activation item.

? Accept Requests from People in the City
Developing your reputation as an atelier is indispensable to increasing your atelier rank. In order to become more famous, Lydie and Suelle go to the bulletin board outside the royal castle with their “Ambitions Notebook” in hand.
Take on All Sorts of Requests
You can accept requests at the bulletin board outside the royal castle, the contents of which are roughly divided into item collection and monster subjugation. By completing requests, you can earn rewards such as money and tools. Do your best not only for the people of Melveille, but also for the rewards and to fill out your Ambitions Notebook.
—1. Accept a Request
There is a bulletin board outside the royal castle where requests are posted. You can accept several requests at once, so choose whichever requests pique your interests.

—2. Handle the Request
Battle against the subjugation target. The area where the target monster resides is written on the request. Complete each request by traveling between the real world and worlds of paintings.

—3. Report Back
After you safely complete a request, return to the receptionist at the bulletin board outside the castle to report its completion and collect your reward.

? No Matter What Happens, It Will Be OK If You’re With Your Friends
In both the real world and the worlds of mysterious paintings, various difficulties and mysteries will stand in the twins and company’s way. However, in facing these many challenges together, there will prove to be no replacements for the twins’ reliable comrades.
—While searching for ingredients to use for a synthesis, the twins notice frequent thunder in Melveille. Could this be a warning that something bad is going to happen?

—Lydie hears someone’s voice coming from the basement of the atelier, where she and her sister live. A voice that is both gentle and calm…

The Friends that Adventure with the Twins
—Mathias Ferrié Adalett
In order to protect Lydie and Suelle from danger, the older sister-esque Mireille entrusts Mathias to guard the twins. He is hesitant when it comes to strong-looking monsters, so will he be able to get things done when necessary…!?

—Firis Mistlud
The world-traveling alchemist Firis. It would seem that the monster she defeated was the challenge set for the twins’ exam to increase their atelier rank. Her atelier rank is now even higher than the twins’.
Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_11-12-17_020.jpg
—Alt
Alt is a boy shrouded in mystery, who the twins meet during their investigation of the mysterious paintings. Rather than hand over his painting, he offers to come along on their investigation. He is interested in both the worlds of the mysterious paintings, as well as the twins.

—Sophie Neuenmuller
An alchemist who wishes for everyone’s happiness. When Lydie and Suelle try to give up in the face of strong monsters beyond their power, Sophie is there with a smiling face to give the twins a speech.

—No matter the situation, believe in yourself, who has come so far, and your friends, who are reliable and cannot be replaced.
Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_11-12-17_023.jpg
? Traveling Around the Worlds of Mysterious Paintings
A garden of flowers where floating islands can be seen, a shining cavern covered in never-melting ice—the worlds of mysterious paintings are filled with mysterious things. Never before seen landscapes and encounters await Lydie and Suelle in these worlds.
Mysterious Painting World: Noisy Forest
The “Noisy Forest” is a world where the noisy voices of the people never cease. In this gloomy forest, Suelle discovers a sign that curses those who read it.

Mysterious Painting World: Unfell Great Falls
“Unfell Great Falls” is a world of burning lava. In this world lives Fuuko, who does not seem to know anything about alchemists.

Mysterious Painting World: Shining Cavern of Ice
The “Shining Cavern of Ice” is an eternal winter cave with a cold atmosphere. It would seem that Lucia becomes frozen in ice by a monster’s attack.

The Grown Comrades of the Mysterious Series
Sophie will gallantly appear when you call for her help. Sophie, whose various adventures have contributed to her growth, never stops moving forward in order to make her dream of making many people happy with alchemy a reality.

The Various Characters that Surround the Twins
—Honette, Lydie and Suelle’s mother, always has kind eyes for her daughters. Honette naturally loved the twins, as well as everyone else in her family.

—Roger, the twins’ father, yells at Lydie and Suelle. Roger, who is also an alchemist, seems to be strict when it comes to synthesis.

—A 3D model image of Lydie, Suelle, and Fuuko, who the twins meet in Unfell Great Falls.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita in Japan on December 21, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam in North America and Europe in early 2018.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings also includes appearances from the protagonists of the previous titles – Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book and Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. The adventurous Firis, her protective older sister Liane, the inquisitive Sophie, and her friendly alchemy teacher Plachta are all back to help Lydie and Suelle fulfil their dream to run the best atelier in the country. Fans will also be pleased to see other familiar faces returning in this brand-new tale, such as Ilmeria, who has now taken the role of a teacher for the new alchemists!

? Lydie and Suelle’s Comrades
Lydie and Suelle are twin alchemists. In trying to become the number one atelier in the country, the two will encounter various characters. The twins’ relationships with the main characters are depicted in the image below.

Atelier-Lydie-and-Suelle-The-Alchemists-and-the-Mysterious-Paintings_2017_11-27-17_007.jpg

? Become the Number One Atelier in the Country
The Twins’ Important Promise
In the evening, the twins discuss the day’s events at the atelier. Their dream of “becoming the number one atelier” is an important promise they made with their family.

? Increase Your Atelier’s Reputation with the “Ambitions Notebook”
By consulting the “Ambitions Notebook,” which Suelle made by hand, you can increase the reputation of Lydie and Suelle’s atelier in the capital. Taking on requests, synthesizing, and raising your abilities, as well as going to various locations to collect materials are just some of the ambitions to make your atelier more widely known.
Increase Your Atelier’s Reputation
In your Ambitions Notebook are small landmarks that indicate to what extent you have completed your ambitions. If you complete all of your ambitions, new ambitions may appear based on the amount…
Collecting in the Worlds of Paintings
There are tons of rare items in the worlds of paintings. In order to synthesize even better items, proactively collect items in the worlds of paintings.
Travel Around the Real World
Not only can you go around the worlds of paintings, you can also travel around the real world in locations such as the capital, forests, and so on, where you can take on ambitions such as defeating monsters. Great effort is required in order to increase your Atelier Rank.
Take on Requests
You can also take on requests for the people of the capital. Take on a request at the bulletin board outside of the royal castle, and after you complete, report to the receptionist to the left of the bulletin board to end the request. You can also receive a reward.

Atelier-Lydie-and-Suelle-The-Alchemists-and-the-Mysterious-Paintings_2017_11-27-17_012.jpg

Complete Ambitions to Steadily Increase Your Atelier’s Reputation
By completing ambitions, you will increase the reputation of the twins’ atelier in the capital. Steadily complete ambitions as you head towarsd the “Rank Up Exam.”

? The Road to Increasing Your Atelier’s Rank
By completing the ambitions in the Ambitions Notebook and increasing your atelier’s reputation, you can talk to the receptionist Mireille outside the royal castle, she will propose, “Why not take the atelier ‘Rank Up Exam’ soon?” Clear the test issued by Mireille and try to rank up your atelier.
Listening to the Contents of the Exam
The contents of the exam consist of various things for each rank, including gathering materials that the kingdom does not have enough of, defeating the monsters inconveniencing the people, etc.
—Mireille’s own signature appears on the rank certificate.

—They thought they would just be collecting eggs, but defeating monsters is also an important job for alchemists.

Try to Complete the Task
There may be cases where you have to deliver several items in completing a task. You can also divide up the item deliveries into several deliveries—to what extent will that influence your evaluation?

Achieve an Atelier Rank Increase!
By clearing the tasks of the examination, you can increase your Atelier Rank. By continually repeating this pattern, you may one day become the best atelier in the country!

? “Other Worlds” Spread Out in Mysterious Paintings
After you finish a Rank Up Exam, Lydie and Suelle and company will be asked to investigate mysterious paintings by going into their worlds. The world of a painting is a truly different world from the real world where you can obtain rare materials. There are inhabitants in the worlds of paintings, and you can have mysterious encounters unimaginable in the real world. Their various mysteries will bring the twins’ dream one step closer to reality, one step at a time.
There Isn’t Just One Mysterious Painting
Mysterious paintings decorate the gallery of the royal castle. There are a great number of mysterious paintings, and each time you increase your Atelier Rank, new mysterious paintings will be introduced. After you enter the world of a painting once, you can enter it again as many times as you want. There may even be different discoveries to make after the story progresses…

Mysterious Paintings that Need to be Fixed
Mysterious paintings that are old and have lost their power can be repaired with a special item made through synthesis.

Each Painting World is Full of Mysteries
A world where mysterious spheres are floating in the sky. In these mysterious worlds, Lydie and Suelle and company will happen across unexpected and mysterious events.

? An Intuitive Synthesis System Where Ingredients are Inserted into Panels
The synthesis system of Atelier Lydie & Suelle sees players choose an item to synthesize, then insert their chosen ingredients into panels. By using a catalyst and activation item during synthesis, it is possible to create an even better item.
Catalyst Bonuses and Activation Items
The catalyst and activation item have a dramatic effect on synthesis, such as the catalyst generating a catalyst bonus mark on the panels in addition to changing the number of panels, or the activation item changing the colors of the panels where ingredients have already been placed. The catalyst can be thrown into the mix at the start of synthesis, and the activation item can be inserted at any time during synthesis.
—Let’s Use a Catalyst Bonus
The catalyst bonus that generates by inserting a catalyst triggers an effect by simply placing an ingredient in that square. Panel number changes and catalyst bonus mark generation differ depending on the type of catalyst used.

—Aim for a Better Effect
Even when not using an activation item, several effects can be attached to the item. If you change the color with reference to the effect level indicated on the right side of the screen, you may be able to make even better items.

—Insert Activation Items at the Right MomentWhen ingredients have been placed and you throw in an activation item with the “Total Repaint: Blue” effect on yellow-colored squares, those yellow squares will all become blue, and a new strengthening effect will appear. By using catalysts and activation items skillfully, you can make even better items.

? Strategic and Diverse Battles
The “Combination Battle” system of Atelier Lydie & Suelle sees a maximum of three two-person teams, consisting of one character in the front and one character in the rear, participate in battle. While skillfully activating Follow Skills, which are follow-up attacks from the character in the rear, and Support Guards, which are meant to protect the twins, unleash super special moves called “Combination Arts” to defeat the enemy standing in your way.
Follow Skills
After the character in the front attacks, you can use a Follow Skill from the character in the rear by meeting certain conditions to back up the character in the front. Since the actions of the character in the rear are determined based on the actions of the character in the front, it is important to form a team that makes the best use of character trends, such as whether they are suited for the front or the rear.

—Sophie attacks from the front, and Alt follows from the rear!
After Sophie’s skill attack, Alt decides to use a Follow Skill. Follow Skill activation conditions vary per skill, and Follow Skills themselves consist of various types, including attack-based, recovery-based, and support-based skills.

image: https://gematsu.com/wp-content/uplo...he-Mysterious-Paintings_2017_11-27-17_026.jpg

Support Guards that Protect Lydie and Suelle
When Lydie and Suelle are about to be attacked, party members other than the twins in the front can protect the them with a Support Guard. You can determine whether or not to activate a Support Guard on your own.

Combination Arts
Combination Arts are super special moves that can be activated by putting together specific teams and when the Combination Gauge accumulates. The Combination Gauge accumulates as party members in the front deal damage to enemies, and as allies in the rear use Follow Skills. Be sure to try out various combinations.
—Firis and Suelle’s Combination Art: “Firis’ Surprise”

Battle Mix
When Lydie and Suelle are in the rear, you can activate a “Battle Mix” to synthesize an item for use in battle. Items synthesized through Battle Mix and “Extra Mix,” which use items synthesized beforehand at the atelier, come with exclusive effects that can only be obtained through these two types of syntheses.
—The Important Archeus Anima
Battle Mix requires an item called Archeus Anima. You can find Archeus Anima on the fields in the worlds of paintings, and can also obtain them through battle.

—Synthesize Various Items through Battle Mix
Items that can be synthesized are selected from your Battle Recipes, which can be acquired as rewards for completing requests. There are also exclusive items that only a certain twin can synthesize through Battle Mix and Extra Mix.
—A Sudden Comeback with Extra Mix
Extra Mix uses items synthesized beforehand at the atelier. Ex Effects can only be gained through this method and can be strengthened by adding a specific number or more of Archeus Anima.

? The Mysterious World and its Opposite Ordinary World
Lydie and Suelle and company live in the capital Melveille. Here, where time passes peacefully, the twins and their friends will walk a straight line towards their dreams.
Friends in the Capital
As you pass the days in Melveille, events with characters will trigger at specific times. It is important to spend time with characters at various times, not only to be able to see the different sides of your friends, but also to unlock the cooperative techniques known as Combination Arts.

—Lucia and Lydie laugh together outside of Atelier Voltaire. Although a friend from their childhood, Lucia is like somewhat of an older sister to the twins.
image: https://gematsu.com/wp-content/uplo...he-Mysterious-Paintings_2017_11-27-17_033.jpg
—Surrounded by their mentors Sophie and Firis, Lydie and Suelle give their all to synthesis. The twins’ skills still have some way to go, but in order to one day astonish their mentors and grow to become the number one atelier in the country, they will continue to look forward and try their best.
image: https://gematsu.com/wp-content/uplo...he-Mysterious-Paintings_2017_11-27-17_034.jpg

—-It seems that Corneria, who appeared in Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, will appear in Atelier Lydie & Suelle. While she didn’t necessarily grow bigger than houses as the years passed, she seems to have gotten huge for some reason. Will she be able to return back to her original size?

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita in Japan on December 21, and for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on March 27 in North America and March 30 in Europe.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle details enhanced battle features
Published 15 hours ago. 40 comments.
Battle Mixes and Combination Battles.

Atelier-Lydie-Suelle_01-23-18.jpg

Koei Tecmo has released new information, video, and screenshots of Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings introducing the game’s enhanced battle features.

Get the details below.
As they journey through a bounty of colorful locations, the girls will encounter the many surprises each world has hidden within them – with some unfriendly foes standing in their way.

The girls will have to use everything in their arsenal to overcome their opponents, including alchemy. For the first time in the Atelier series, players are able to synthesize items while in battle for immediate use through Battle Mix and Extra Mix, with each opening up a range of new strategic options.

Battle Mix focuses on crafting special Battle Recipes that enhance weaponry or cause a drastic change to the battlefield conditions; players stuck in a tight spot with an icy foe could imbue their weapon with fire or even melt away the ice on the battlefield to give themselves the ideal advantage.

Extra Mix utilizes pre-synthesized items – heightening their abilities and even adding new characteristics in ways which were previously impossible. In the case of the ever-useful Bomb item, which can be used to attack a group of enemies during combat, Extra Mix allows for the creation of the Enormous Bomb with a wider attack radius and a much deadlier blow. Experimenting with various ingredients can lead to impressive outcomes, with plenty of different items to match each player’s unique gameplay style.

Alchemy is not the only tool at Lydie and Suelle’s disposal, as up to eight quirky companions can enter the fray with the all new Combination Battle mechanic. Building upon the party setup previously featured in the series, each of the four characters will partner up with another to form a strong unit which will effectively engage enemies in close-quarters combat and perform ample support. The four characters at the front of a pair will focus on dealing blows to the opponent, with the four at the back carefully analyzing enemy attacks and jumping in to defend and support as needed.

Carefully selecting the right duo that matches the player’s preferred playstyle is a key element of the game; the right pairing can allow devastating Combination Attacks to be performed in their moment of need!

A delightful new trailer highlighting the additions to battle and unique cast of characters, which will join players on their journey, was released today – alongside a fresh coat of new colorful assets, which introduces a collection of new characters: the mischievous young prince of Adalett, Mathias; the bright and energetic princess, Mireille; the mysterious child, Alt; the town’s caring nun, Grace; a girl who lives among the lava falls of “The Great Cascades of Anfel”, Fuoko; and the first alchemist to create a ‘Mysterious Painting’, Neige.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle: The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is available now for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita in Japan, and will launch for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on March 27 in North America and March 30 in Europe. A PlayStation 4 demo is available now in Japan.

Nelke-West_09-26-18.jpg

Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World will launch for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC in early 2019 in North America and Europe, publisher Koei Tecmo announced.

In Japan, Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World is due out for PlayStation 4, Switch, and PS Vita on December 13.

Here is the latest information about the game, via Koei Tecmo:

In Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World players assume the role of Nelke von Lestamm, a young aristocrat who longs to become an alchemist, but sadly does not have the talents required. With a strong fascination with the ancient legend of the Sage of Granzweit, she is excited to uncover new information which rumours that the sacred Granzweit Tree is within the lands her father governs.

Not only are the eccentric alchemists on hand to help with developing Westwald, but Nelke will rely on their help to unravel the mystery behind the Granzweit Tree. The main cast of the Dusk series; Ayesha Altugle, Escha Malier, Logix Ficsario, Shallistera Argo and Shallotte Elminus, are just a handful of the alchemist friends which she will have the pleasure to work alongside on her journey. More alchemists are yet to be revealed from across other Atelier titles like the Salburg, Mysterious and Arland trilogies.

In Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World, players need money to develop the land and build new facilities, but will require the aid of well-known alchemists. By sending alchemists out across the lands to gather materials and synthesize them provides Nelke with income from selling the final product in one of Westwald’s shops. As the town’s population grows, players can construct Ateliers, Shops, Growing Areas, Landmarks, and Roads, to name a few. Many facilities will allow helpers run their day-to-day procedures – place a resident as a helper in a Growing Area and they will ensure that the items planted are harvested and ready for use.

Published 1 day ago. 84 comments.
Here is a piece of artwork.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu features the reveal of a new entry in the Atelierseries—likely a fourth entry in the Arland saga.

In an online preview titled “An Unexpected New Atelier Development… the 4th Arland Title is a Go!?,” the magazine teased the following artwork:

While the outlet is not revealing the name of the title quite yet, it did point out that Koei Tecmo recently released Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland DX in Japan, and that the end of the game features a scene not present in the original version or Plus version of the game. That scene is this one:

Weekly Famitsu releases on Thursdays in Japan, but information from the magazine usually leaks on Wednesday mornings (Tuesday nights Eastern time). Look forward to more information then.

Atelier Lulua: The Alchemist of Arland 4 announced for PS4, Switch
Published 6 hours ago. 111 comments.

Take on the role of Rorona's daughter.

Arland-4-Ann-Init_10-23-18.jpg

Following a teaser earlier today, leaks from the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveal Atelier Rurua: The Alchemist of Arland 4 for PlayStation 4 and Switch. It will launch in 2019 in Japan for 7,800 yen. A 10,800 yen limited edition will also be available. Pre-orders will open on October 25 in Japan. Character designs are by Mel Kishida.

The protagonist is Elmeluria Frixell, the daughter of Ateler Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland protagonist Rorona. Her voice actor is currently unannounced. She has long hair adorned with a heart symbol. Her clothes appear to be hand-me-downs from Rorona. She is a studious girl and reckless type who, studying under her master to become an alchemist like her mother, picks up a certain book.

Elmeluria’s childhood friend is Eva Armster. Her voice actor is also unannounced. She is a proper girl who works at a nursery school. While she has a quiet personality, she is a tough fighter in battle, seemingly using a bazooka or Gatling gun.

The game uses the synthesis, exploration, and battle elements of the Arland series as its base. New systems based on elements that gained popularity through the Mysterious sub-series of Atelier games will also appear. Synthesis will be both classic and new.

The world features an even bigger Arland Republic where Arls has been annexed. It also seems that Rorona is somewhere far away from here.

Thanks, Ryokutya2089 and Hachima Kikou.

(Editor’s Note: “Lulua,” “Elmeluria,” and “Eva Armster” are not official localized names.)

■ Systems

Synthesis, exploration, and battle…

The system that defines the Atelier series. While maintaining a system that fans of the Arland series will be familiar with at its core, this title also continues to evolve the system.

In addition, the title extracts the essence of the system, which has continued to be cultivated, all the way up from the series’ roots to its latest numbered title. A unique melding of such elements makes possible an entirely new gaming experience.

—A “book,” which also appears in the game’s logo. Abstract words are spread across its pages. What is the identity of this mysterious book?

Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists details the secrets to town-building
Published 2 days ago. 10 comments.
Cooperative synthesis is the key to advancing the story.

Gust has released new information and screenshots of Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Atelier of the New World introducing the secrets to town-buildnig.

Get the details below.

■ The Secret to Town-Building Revealed

Interactions with Legendary Characters Influence Town-Building

In Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists: Ateliers of the New World, you will develop your friendship level with the characters that come to town as residents through means such as visitations. Each character has various strengths and weaknesses, such as gathering in the field or selling items. Build up your town while considering the details of requested work and its compatibility with the townspeople.

—The schedule-in-progress screen shows what sort of work is currently happening in the town.

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_001.jpg

—After the work week comes to an end, the various results of the week will be presented.

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_002.jpg

—Check and use the results to better build your town the next week.

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_003.jpg

In addition to the total population, budget, and assets of the town, the outcome of the actions performed during the work week are also displayed in the weekly results, including the number materials acquired, items produced, item sales, and so on. Residents who gained a lot of experience through activities such as earning high income will be displayed as MVPs. The higher their rank, the greater their friendship level will rise.

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_004.jpg

Mix and Match Residents with Facilities for Proper Town-Building

You can entrust the characters that become residents to the management of facilities, such as a shop assistant who handles requests. Residents have strengths and weaknesses suited for each facility, so there is an aptitude level you will have to pay attention to. Since the efficiency of town-building changes depending on which residents are entrusted to which facilities, the player’s skills will be tested.

For example, the expected number of sales of a Sterk with high aptitude for grocery stores is six, while the expected number of sales for a still low aptitude Keina is two. Aptitude rises with each resident’s level.

—Consider aptitude before making placements!

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_006.jpg

Befriend Residents to Make Town-Building More Fun

By befriending the residents, friendship levels will increase. Lots of good things come with that increase, such as being able to construct a “landmark” facility tied to that character, the activation of special events, and an increase in skills useful for town-building. Friendship level rises through means such as post-work week evaluations and day-off visits, and completing requests from that character.

—Build a landmark tied to a specific character!

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_008.jpg

Some skills can also be learned by increasing friendship level. Learn skills that increase your stats and settle on powerful special moves.

—Increasing friendship level can even make you more powerful!

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_009.jpg

The Townscape Drastically Changes with the Facilities You Build

Which area you build which facilities, and how you create the layout of the town is up to you. For example, you can build a lot of agricultural facilities such as fields to develop the basic village into a town with an idyllic atmosphere. Depending on your abilities, Westwald can take on various forms.

—A town with a rural landscape. Or even a town with a somewhat high-tech atmosphere. Go from village to town, and town to city according to your town development level.

Nelke-and-the-Legendary-Alchemists-Ateliers-of-the-New-World_2018_11-02-18_011.jpg

You can also renovate previously constructed facilities to ones of higher grade.

■ Cooperative Synthesis: The Key to the Story

The “Granzweit Tree” is said to be somewhere in Westwald. The legendary alchemists will help you find the relic of the Sage, which is said to be difficult to find. And by cooperating with specific combinations of alchemists, you will be able to perform cooperative synthesis that differs from regular synthesis. This cooperative synthesis is the key to advancing the story.

By clearing conditions such as gathering materials and synthesizing specific items, you will be able to cooperate to perform new research. Friendship level is a prerequisite for cooperative synthesis. While cooperating with the alchemists, Nelke and company will unravel the mystery of the Granzweit Tree.

—The relic of the Sage is hidden somewhere?
