Atheist Owns Preacher in Religous Debate!

Well, I predict this thread won't end well.

I'm not even religious but it's funny how people like the op see fit to push their non-beliefs on people even more than the religious do.

Ah, I was just about to say something similar. I was thinking..."and Christians are pushy?" Wow... What a double standard.

Well, as a whole, atheist haven't done nearly as good a job at pushing their point of view as the religious.

Thing is, most religious people couldn't be bothered because they are so convinced in their faith, and most likely have a huge network of people who will strengthen their belief.

Most fervently religious people have been deeply indoctrinated in the views of their religion before they could think for themselves, and as such can hardly conceive things outside of that realm.

The U.S. is supposed to be a secular state, but everyday non believers are confronted with religion in every aspect of life.
Your spokespersons have done a hell of a job.

There is a long bloody history of force conversions, holy wars, treacherous missionary work, and cultural brainwash backed by coercion which have elevated religion to where it stands.

If atheist feel the need to get up on their soapboxes and non-violently push their views in a infinitely more logical way then religion has, then so be it.

But for the most part its a waste of breath considering it is an almost impossible task to enlighten a believer, and believers will obviously perpetuate their ancient beliefs into their children, and the cycle will be never ending.

Saying the Atheist won the debate doesn't equate to me pushing my belief system on anyone here. You're distorting my words, and your entire premise is fallacious.

QFT, what a remarkable rebuttal. The sad thing about religon is that young children are conditioned to believe whatever religon thier parents subscribe to. Religon doesn't promote free thought. A Palestinian child for example doesn't have the luxury of weighing all of the varibles between the various religons, before making an informed decision as to what Religon he or she will follow.

Ah, I was just about to say something similar. I was thinking..."and Christians are pushy?" Wow... What a double standard.

Christians are culturally pushy, individuals needn't be as seemingly pushy in order for the system to thrive.

All an American has to do is reach into his pockets and pull out some change, and they'll be exposed to religious propaganda.

As a Canadian, I'm exposed to it whenever I hear my own national anthem.

Historically you've been beyond pushy, and now you rule by numbers.
Yet so soon as someone has a dissenting opinion on religion, it annoys most of you very much if you bother paying any attention at all to it.
And then labels like pushy and fundamentalist are thrown around.

The irony is exquisite and excruciating all at once.

That it is, but not quite in the way you think it is.

Your "holier than thou" mentality is pretty damned ridiculous.

Of course you say this knowing the religious "holier than thou" is worse... being that one of the rules they are supposed to follow... is not doing that.

Christians are pushy. Atheist are pushy. You can generalize any group of people. People are pushy. People use anything to serve as a purpose to be pushy. Travel and you'll see that people are basically the same. You'll notice the same pushy people with different culture/religion/lifestyle/whathaveyou and it has happened throughout history all over the world with different reasons, all of which "my horse is bigger than yours".

In this case "your horse doesn't exist"

My advice: Live your life well and shut up please.

I know coming into this forum and basically going "Oh look I'm so right and your religious beliefs are so wrong. It's so obvious!" is an asshat move. I'd say the exact same thing if this thread was called "Preacher owns Atheist in religious debate" It's just as stupid. You don't have to be such a jackass.

I'd might of done better to omit that last bolded line, because of the arrogance of it, yet I still don't see it weakening my stance.

I just appreciate living in an age and place where I can express my opinions such as I do, and not worry about being tortured and killed over it.

If it weren't for such grisly tactics, there certainly wouldn't be a quarter of the religious sheeps that there are now.

I don't feel holier then anyone, I transcend the concept :oldrazz:.

Nobody is saying you can't express your opinions, you just don't have to be a dick about it and act like you're better than everyone just because you don't believe in god. That IS a holier than though attitude right there., and it's just as obnoxious when you do it as it is when religious people do it.

I know, but I might as well enjoy myself.
Even if I was eloquent, exhaustive in providing facts, and full of compromise, I feel that in the eyes of a very devout person, I'd still just be a soulless atheist, one of the worse things going.
I suppose I give them ammunition by being a dick, but what's me worry?
No ones changing their minds.
It isn't surprising to hear about an atheist ex-preacher, most of these preachers seem like evil, money hungry human beings that do feed off the loneliness and misery of others.

As an atheist, I'm definitely part of the minority, the crusades are over yes, but their influence still permeates modern society.
I'd like to live in a world not dictated by religious folly.

That was embarrassing and barely even a debate. Dan Barker backed up his arguments with proof and logic and Todd basically preached the same silly rhetoric and propaganda you would hear in a church sermon. Barker was intelligent and well spoken and Todd sounded every bit like someone preaching the word of god 300 years ago with that weird affect he speaks in. Who would you believe?

hmm..lets see:

Athiest: "If you cant see it, touch it, or smell it...it doesnt exist. There, debate won."

Thats pretty much it. Nothing suprising there, you can't prove something you cant see or touch. I dont know whats so impressive about that.

It's not very fair to be saying that the Atheist won the debate seeing as we only heard his side of it . . .

Oh there is more then just that part, you got to check in the related videos.

This Todd guy embarrassed himself so many times...
Barker was great!
