Attention! DTL/RPG Threads! [Marvel]

Hey gang--

We're moving a lot of the RPG/DTL stuff out of the comics forums and into their own sections, but of course a project of this magnatude will take a long time, so bear with me for a bit. If you don't find the threads in their respective former forums, then check the new forums, and that's where they'll most likely be.

Kinda confused as to why the Contest of Marvels is in the RPG forum... it has nothing to do with Role Playing like the RPG's and DTL does. It's just a game with debating. I don't mind though, since I'm all for uncluttering the Marvel forum. Good move overall though

So for future referance... should any large comic book games go in the RPG forum as well? I'm thinking about eventually (no time soon) starting a Marvel Murder Mystery game that I have in the back of my mind. It'll be one thread that'll go for a long while, but isn't really RP'ing. Just planning ahead.

Well, I've thought about it for a good 24 hours, and I think it ends up being a terrible move. In my own experience with The Hype, I'm a Marvel fan and generally only visit the Marvel Comics board. If I have a marvel question or post, I post it there. I'm sure there are plenty of posters who do the same thing. In the end, I think this kills the RPGs and things that the mods determine to be like an RPG. Newbies aren't going to look for Marvel RPGs, or even know if there is a separate page for them.

I realize many hypsters believe the boards are overrun with these things, as even JH's and my Contest of Marvels has five threads that run continuously during the week. But, I've found that there are just as many inane posts that get put up daily that I find a waste of my time. Basically, I really don't see how separating these makes The Hype a better place, as they weren't really hurting the Marvel Comic board in any way.

Yeah, perhaps the forum should be retitled "Hype RPGs and Games." That would actually fit the DTL better, too, since that wasn't technically an RPG. It was a tournament modeled on football seasons where we posted our own scenarios for a fight between teams, which others would then vote on based on a number of factors. Kind of like a Hype essay contest more than anything else, if you think about it.

This is true. Granted most of us did write ongoing stories for our teams that stretched the entire season, but it definitely wasn't an RPG.

At any rate, with it getting it's own place now...maybe it's time to bring the DTL back for another season?

I know Trop's probably too busy to jump in as well. And X and Guyver have left the Hype completely. Hobbit and Wieg might return, and maybe...*sigh* AS.

Harl might come back, and I know there are those in the RPGs that have said they wouldn't mind giving it a shot.

I know I wouldn't be able to devote myself fully to running the show again. Wieg can pick up where he left off if he wants to come back.
Otherwise I'd say we start a panel of posters who would handle things (classifying characters, creating divisions, schedules, etc).

Contest of Marvels is nearing it's end this season. Maybe if the DTL comes back and we take our usual break inbetween contest seasons, I'll jump on board.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Sparta's "Marvel Comics Character Tournament" should have stayed on the main Marvel Comics page. It's the O.T. (Original Tournament), has had over 18,500 posts, and been viewed more than 260,000 times.

No problem. I just wanted to make sure I voiced my opinion in this thread. I didn't want everyone's opinion on here be "Oh what a great change;" because, I think in the end we're going to see some threads, like Sparta's, have such reduction in post counts that they might just disappear or be rendered insignificant.

Oh, I understand. and I know that there will be some "casualties". Sadly, though, that's the price to pay for order. But sometimes, it's worth it. It looks like the DTL is coming back [which was something I personally hoped would happen if I did this], so all's fair. And I'm sure it'll be handled very well.
