August 2007 Sales Figures

I swear CBR must just repost the same press release over and over. I think this is the second time I've created a sales report topic based on what I saw on their site, and there already being one on the Hype.

CBR reposts it with some analysis from some *****ebag.

Most of the people on CBR are *****ebags. Except for the guy that does the Urban Legend column; he's alright.

Most comic book sites are garbage now.

Comics Continuum is still the same as it always was. They usually have previews that CBR or Newsarama won't put up, which is nice.

And that's pretty much it for them.

At least they refrain from commentary that sucks, unlike Newsarama, CBR, Wizard, and SilverBulletComics.

Those sites just need to learn the concept of a "follow up question".

Comic Book website: "So Joey Q, why do this to Spider-Man?"

Joey Q: "Bull****, bull****, bull****, bull****, great for the business."

CBW: "Wow, that's great, lets talk about you losing weight."

Yeah, Newsarama doesn't press issues at all. Granted, I imagine they'd get nowhere near the number of top-name interviews if they did...

Well yeah, losing whatever respectability they have because they cater to creators instead of the fans who read the site. I mean seriously Matt Brady, ask a follow up question one in a while. The only guy they really grill on that site is that Mike Carlin guy.

I don't even read the Carlin interviews because they're always about Countdown, which sucks.

Yeah, but they ask him about why it sucks so much, one main topic has been why not add a couple of editor's notes so we know why Kyle is around even though Sinestro Corps isn't even halfway done.

I assume his response was something like, "Because the current regimes at both of the big 2 believe editor's notes are tools of Satan."

No, it was even more stupid, something in the line of "We'd have hundreds of editor's notes covering up all the art and dialogue if we did that."

Haha, every single justification I've heard for removing editor's notes has been more ******ed than the last.

I didn't know there was only 2,900 people out there reading TMNT comics. I hope Mirage doesn't fold. :(

The fact that Fox turned the cartoon into a bad parody of itself with Fast Forward and then pretty much let it fall apart after one season of that probably isn't helping.

I don't know about that. I don't think the cartoon's target audience and the comic's target audience is the same. I hate this Fast Forward crap but still love the comic.

The overall $$$ doesn't show that big of a gap b/w Marvel & DC.....where's that other *****e? You know, the kid who was asking how DC plans to stay in business?

I was thinking of getting into the comic, but then Fast Forward happened and now there isn't a cartoon and I just kind of lost interest.

Oh god, please don't let your opinion of the comic be influenced by that ridiculous tv show. It has nothing, I repeat, nothing to do with with that crap. I'm more pissed with the movie though. In order to concentrate on the TMNT movie, Mirage stopped the regular TMNT title and just released Tales of the TMNT. Tales is okay. It's a bunch of one shots rather than a continuing story arc like the regular TMNT comic was. But if you do decide to check out the comics, I'd recommend going way back to the beginning. The first 16 stories in Vol. 1 were the best and the last ten or so were also damn good. Vol. 2 was okay, Vol. 3 was that weird Image thing that has been retconned and vol. 4 is hard to find. In fact you can read the first five or so issues at www.ninjaturtles.com

I know the comics aren't particularly close to the cartoon. I'm not a Ninja Turtles newb, I've read the first volume of the Mirage comics. It's just that I'd have to special-order the Mirage series from my shop, since they never have that ****, and then I'd have to read all the back-issues to catch up and it'd just be a big hassle.

The cartoon, before it went all ******ed and became Fast Forward, was actually a really good adaptation of the Mirage comics, just toned down to meet television standards. They had all of the classic arcs included in the earlier seasons' storylines. The only thing I didn't much like was the fact that Shredder turned out to be an Utrom.

Not really. If you'd read the old Vol. 1 issues and seen the movies and cartoon, I don't think you'd have to read all the back issues to catch up. Plus, like I said, Tales of the TMNT are all one shots. No continuing story arcs. As long as you know the basics (that the Turtles are mutated teenagers and are trained by Splinter in ninjitsu...that they have human friends such as April, Casey and Shadow...that the Foot is their enemy and that they defeated Shredder in the past) you can start reading right now and not be lost. If you do pick some of the current ones up, I'd say stay away from Raphael: Bad Moon Rising. It's a five issues mini with Raph and dumb monsters and crap. It reads more like a cartoon episode.
