Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

I think the gap between 1 and 2 will be the true test. Seriously. 11 damn years.

Is it bad that my eyes immediately searched for the lone two black dudes in that shot? :o

Between the 3 of them, only one seems to have assimilated :oldrazz:

The other two are a variation of, "What am I doing here?"

Oh and is that Jason Segel in mocap?

Cameron's such an amazing filmmaker, it's disappointing he's going to spend the twilight of his career and all these Avatar sequels.

Having said that, I am yet to see Avatar 1. There will be a big gap between 1 and 2, but there have been bigger gaps between sequels before. I'm sure it will still make a ton of money regardless, even if it doesn't set the new record for #1 box office gross of all-time.

Remember since this is so CGI heavy they can ''reshoot'' with motion capture Avatar 3 the next week after the premiere of Avatar 2 and reviews. Its also a great way to hide that they didnt change sequel for the public. Something that WB couldnt do with Matrix 3 after 2. the third movie was out 6 months after 2. They couldnt do anything.

As much as I have no interest in the first Avatar I still think JC is one of the best in the business and i wont bother doubting the chance of these sequels being of high quality.

Going from JCs past we really have no idea what the next few sequels are going to be like.

Do you think the script will be more original or will it play on tropes of other films?

Nice to get dates, but yeah this is all still crazy! Looking forward to the underwater aspect when we finally get a trailer.

There needs to be a sense of familiarity or they will not be able to sell it worldwide. This s.. got to expensive. :woot:

Cameron said he was going shoot the sequels "faster and cheaper." There was one interview where he said he was going to make them for $150M apiece, but now I can't find it.

Avatar did spend a month of mo-cap photography, then another for live-action shots. And that was it. Most of the time (and money) spent on the film was on the complex VFX.

There is no way Cameron will use the same performances from 7 years ago for his last movie. i am using 7 years because they will do the motion capture before the first movie comes out. The technology will change and they will have to update the machines and software. This is only cheaper if you do it maybe like Peter Jackson on Hobbit. but i dont think it can work over 8 years (2017 - 2025) IMO

Finally, it's filming. Curious to see what Cameron has cooked up. It's a very ambitious plan that he has.

Fox owns the digital CGI models of what WETA and ILM created for the first film. Obviously, Cameron created new worlds and characters for the sequels, but they can easily recreate Pandora and most of the returning Na'vi characters since the models still exist.

I'm curious about the technological advances during the 11-year gap and during these following four movies.

Terminator came out in 1984 and Terminator 2 came out in 1991 and was a Huge hit.

I don't see the problem in the gap. If its an Awesome movie it will be huge.

The sequels also take place many years later when Jake and Neytiri have a family together.

Marvel 2009 - 2017: 15 films

Star Wars 2009 - 2017: 3 films
Star Wars 2018 - 2025: 8 films

DCEU 2009 - 2017: 5 films
DCEU 2018 - 2025: 20 films

That's a big IF on those 20 DCEU films.

Once people see the trailer it'll blow them all away and everyone will be talking about it. It's the sequel to the biggest film of all time.

Seriously. If anyone can change the time gap problem its Cameron.

To think of all the Inceptions, Interstellars, Martians, Gravitys, Edge of Tomorrows he could've made if he hadn't been jerkin his gherkin to mastering effects that will be redundant the following year.

But the thing is, Avatar was huge because of the effects and novelty. I'm not sure that that is still there. Beyond that, what does this movie have going for it? Does Avatar hold a bit of cultural significance? Do most people even remember it? I think this movie could very possibly have a Tron: Legacy type of performance.

Yikes! 2020 is still a long time!

Three and a half years. Might feel a long time now, but is already about that long ago that Gravity, for example, was released. Which I personally almost can't believe... :)

3 and a half years isn't that long. But 11 years since the first one? Its that long!
