Sci-Fi Avatar: The Way Of Water

It is a little mind blowing there will be 16 years between the first film in the series and the last sequel.

2009-2025 the Avatar era of cinema as will be noted in the history books.

16 years from beginning to end seems less crazy than the decade long gap between movies 1 and 2.

i remember distinctly how Cameron said in an interview "We're planning a sequel, yes, it wont take as long as this one"

And now, here we are. :hehe:

Wouldn't this be the Marvel era or the return of Star Wars era? Or better yet, the Disney era?

This is absolutely the Disney Era right now. Even with Pixar in a hit or miss phase.

I was being facetious but some people were under the assumption Avatar could be the Star Wars of the 21st century when it made near 3 billion dollars in 2010.

The huge delay in coming out with its sequels obviously changed things and the MCU sort of filled in that gap and of course now Star Wars is back too.

Not to mention the fact that James Cameron treats Avatar less like a franchise and more like a pet project that he can play with anytime he wants.

That's exactly what it feels like.

‘Avatar 2’ Movie Will Be 3D But Will Not Require 3D Glasses – James Cameron’s ‘Dream Come True’

http://www.inquisitr.com/4322065/av...re-3d-glasses-james-camerons-dream-come-true/

In addition to the latest technology to the Avatar universe, James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment has extended their collaboration with Christie Digital for five more years. The high-tech team on both ends are working towards bringing one of its kind experience for the audience. The Christie Digital’s team will be providing RGB laser projection systems that will exclude the need for 3D glasses to watch a 3D film.

The working of the brand new RGB laser projection systems is said to be providing bright images at a high frame rate. The technology involvement will result in crystal clear, sharp images, eliminating 3D glasses.

“In addition to the latest in projection technologies, Christie is fully committed to sharing our ongoing research and development efforts, including product roadmaps, with our co-visionary, Lightstorm, so that its productions will repeat the awe-inspiring success of Avatar in the years to come,” said president and CEO of Christie, Jack Kline.

Just give us a somewhat decent story this time.

Cameron will probably laugh harder than that once Avatar 2 makes double the bank any Guardians of the Galaxy film will ever make. If it's ever released in least........at this pace i'm not even sure anymore.

Now if they can give us 3D without having to put them damn glasses on I'll gladly pay for that.

Double? It'll make triple possibly.

The first film sequel will make a ****-load, I'm not sure how much the following sequels will make though? that depends on the reception of the first.

The first Matrix sequel made a lot of money but the one that followed right after had a steep drop.

I'll believe it when I see it. Both the sequel existing, and it making anywhere near the amount of money as the first one.

I expect a lot of people to be nauseated by that new 3D system but we'll see.

Sigourney Weaver*explains*why there are four*Avatar sequels
Sigourney Weaver has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about reprising her role as scientist*Dr. Grace Augustine in*the four*upcoming Avatar sequels. Specifically, she discusses why its important that there are four movies, which relates to*their important and timely social messages.

“There’s a very good reason why it turned out to be four sequels,” Weaver said.*“Having read all four of them, I think they’re absolutely extraordinary and worth the wait.*These films are very much about the peril of this beautiful planet, and [James Cameron] is continuing the same themes of greed and callousness of the corporations and plight of the indigenous people. At this point after a long and very satisfying career — I can’t believe it’s been 40 years, but anyway — I’m very excited to be able to work on these four stories. I can really, really appreciate it.”
Pre-production on the four films*has been*underway in New Zealand since April, and shooting will officially begin on September 25 of this year. With Avatar 2 and 3 shooting simultaneously, and 4 and 5 shortly after, it’s sure to be a wild ride for all involved!
“It’s the most ambitious project by far I’ve ever been involved in, and the most moving, the most astonishing, beautiful,” Weaver added.*“I think all of us who get to be a part of it are just in awe when we see the artwork. It’s just incredible to be living now when we can bring this kind of film experience to the public. Because I think as much as ‘Avatar’ changed what people want in a film experience, this goes a hundred times farther.”
Returning cast members include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver. Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin are also joining the sequels. The Avatar sequels will be produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment. The James Cameron-directed sequels are written by Cameron along with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.
20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment recently announced new*release dates for all four of the films via the official Avatar Facebook page, saying, “Great to be working with the best team in the business! Avatar takes flight as we begin concurrent production on four sequels. The journey continues December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025!”
Released in 2009, the first Avatar film remains the highest-grossing film worldwide with over $2.7 billion in box office gross. It was dethroned by Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the highest at the domestic box office, pushing past Avatar‘s*$760 million with a total of*$936 million

I don't think many are expecting it to make as much as the first.
