Is there anyone else like me?

You just can't resist reading the spoilers then get upset that you read them.
Like sometimes I say well just one little one won't hurt then I find out it's the ending.I then go AHHHHH!!!!!:cmad:

It seems we spoilers for the spoilers.
Like Don't read this spoiler if you don't want to know the end or don't read this spoiler if you don't ant to know what happens to so and so.

I know it sounds siller However I just wanted this Thread to be a place to go to as to resist temptaion.

I know if I had a place to go to with some help by my peers I might be able to keep my mind Occupied.:yay:

So yes I 'll start it:

My name is Hmarrs and yes"I'm an Avenger Spoilerholic!!!:csad:

Right here. I tried my best to avoid them but it's too hard at times. It won't ruin the mvie for me but it would have been nice going into The Avengers not knowing much.

Lets see if I can do the same with TDKR. So far I'm good on Prometheus and for some reason I don't think there will be many spoilers for that before the movie hits.

I hate that I can't resist spoilers. I don't even try anymore.

It would be nice to go into one of these movie without any spoiler info in my head, but I just can't resist.

Why resist? Just read the spoilers then you have no guilt. :D

Have you ever sucked **** for clips?

I was just noting that you're not that hardcore a spoilerholic till you tickle an undercarriage with your tongue for a few details on an after credits scene.

I feel even if you read the spoilers..its still feels fresh watching it for the first time

You spelled Spoiler wrong.
Oops what was I thinking(I spoiled it :woot:)how can I fix that?

The only one I was mad about was who dies. And I wasn't mad because I read it, I was mad overall as it was one of my fave characters. I'm kinda glad I know so I can prepare for it.... lol

you can DO it!

This thread was created too late for me...

I somehow over the years have been able to resist the temptations of having a cigarette. But, I'm a puny enough human to cave to The Avengers news, alas, I was spoiled.:csad:

Still will be there opening day.

I don't see what the big deal is with spoilers, tbh. To me, the disturbing thing is people's neurotic aversion to spoilers moreso than anything else. Some folks act like seeing a clip of the protagonist tying their shoes is gonna ruin the whole movie for them, but personally, even if I wikipedia a whole movie's plot I can still enjoy it if it's a good movie in it's own right. Knowing what happens doesn't destroy a movie whatsoever; I really think the whole spoiler hysteria is one of those things that we're just told so often that we just believe it without question. If you think about it, saying that a spoiler will ruin a movie is equivalent to saying you shouldn't watch a favorite movie more than once...since you know what happens.

It's especially true with superhero flicks...I mean really, what do people expect to happen in The Avengers? Some heros are introduced, a threat is identified, the heros get together and save the world. If you think anything other than that is gonna happen in a superhero mashup then you're out of your mind; all the other details are just icing on the cake. I just don't see why more people don't value the experience as a whole as opposed to cherry picked plot details. I know exactly what's happening in this movie, yet I can't remember the last time I was so pumped for a film, and every little detail I discover makes me even more excited.

I know that this thread was lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek, just thought I'd throw my two cents in while we're on the subject.

Actually what you said was good it helps not feel as bad.
Still one can't help but wonder...

People work differently and I'm clearly not like you. Sure, it's quite obvious that the Avengers will work together and overcome the threat, but the most fun part about viewing it the first time is finding out how that happens. If I see, or read, too many spoilers that revelation comes before watching the movie and therefor I've taken something away from the first viewing. The first viewing is always the one that's special and I have plenty of times watching the movies when I know what's going to happen after that. I don't read the ending of a book first either.

Does it ruin the movie? No, but do we have to make it so extremely black and white? Just because something isn't ruined doesn't mean that it's the best possible scenario.

It's just like if I watch a movie and I'm interrupted every 10 minutes. It can still be a good movie but my experience will definitely not be as good as if I could have watched it continuously.

My ideal is to know as little about a movie as possible. With a really hyped movie it's hard to keep away from seeing nothing, especially since it's fun to talk about the hype with others, but there's certainly a limit even there.

I wish I could lend you guys my newfound strength. I have avoided all the clips and even some of the tv spots. I really didn't know I had it. Before I was completely spoiler weak.

One thing that is working for me is confidence in the film. Before with movies that I was emotionally or psychologically invested in I would feel a need to 'check in on them' and see how everything is going. With THE AVENGERS I feel so confident in this film that this does not apply.

I do have to agree with Visualiza (Welcome to SHH by the way) that people carry the spoiler-phobia too far sometimes.

Which is exactly my point. People get too caught up in minute details and give too little credence to the experience.

I see what you're saying though, and agree to a point. Watching a (good)movie for the first time is a lot like a rollercoaster ride. Each subsequent time, no matter how fun, will never duplicate the same adrenaline rush as the first. Regardless, I just fail to see how a spoiler cheapens the experience...a good movie, like a good rollercoaster, is just a good movie, period. As you said, seeing how the events unfold is infinitely more compelling than knowing little details bit by bit. If I knew where each, or even some, of the turns on that rollercoaster are gonna be, sure maybe I can brace myself a bit, but that would never override being in that seat and taking it all in.

With that being said, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a spoiler "taking something away" from the movie. You said it yourself that the movie isn't ruined, so what gets taken away? The only way I can see this becoming an issue is if you were to go into a movie with a chip on your shoulder since you know what might happen, as opposed to just relaxing and enjoying the experience. The way I see it though, that's the same as any other type of distraction; as if you were too stressed to concentrate or were being annoyed by some loud kid, and in that sense I would blame myself for not allowing myself to enjoy the film.

Maybe I'm missing something, but again, I just don't understand it. This isn't to say that I can't respect the POV of others; however, I'm not out to say that people should spoil movies for themselves and what not. I get that most of us would rather not be spoiled beforehand, that's totally fine. Different strokes for different folks. I just don't think we should cater to the spoiler averse as much as we do, because ultimately...if a movie gets spoiled for you, it's your own fault.

The only thing I take issue with is when people overreact to spoilers, i.e. OH NO ZOMG SPOILERS!!! I'M MELTING!!!!!! I just think that sort of behavior is far beyond ridiculous.

Unless there is some big surprise ending I don't really mind being spoiled. Avengers seems pretty by the numbers plot wise. it sounds like the performances, direction, action, set desgin and all that jazz is why the movie is awesome....none of which can really be spoiled by a 'spoilerific review'

i just read the description of the hellcarrier fight, sounds awesome can't wait to see it. not sure how I ruined the movie by reading it.

had Avengers featured a third act where like Red Skull comes out of nowhere or something crazy like that, it might be one thing....but a war movie is not something that really can be spoiled.

Omg I have all 8 tabs on my iPhone safari dedicated to Avengers news, spoilers, reviews etc... (well no im lying one tab is ESPN) ... I've read ALL the spoilers, watched all the clips, interviews and the more i see/read the more excited I get... Woooooo

Note that I wrote that it takes something away from 'the first viewing', not from the movie. The movie doesn't get worse but the experience of viewing it for the first time probably does get worse. Given the general point of your post I assume we're of a fairly similar opinion, even if we might act differently.

As for how people react, I can't say too much about that. People are different and when it comes to things people love they often react strongly, to the amazement of those that don't care for the same subjects.

Spoilers never ruin my enjoyment of the movie. I don't gauge my fun based off of how surprised I am.

Seeing it onscreen the first time is epic regardless of foreknowledge.

I'm sick of everyone in this thread acting spolier than thou.
