Just got out.
Gotta say, a lot to take in, but I'll jump right in.
The first 20 minutes put me off if I were being honest. At least besides the opening, man that was INSANE. They really dove right in. But yeah, the scenes at Stark Tower... Eh. The dialogue made me cringe. Maria Hill and Cho were a tad unnecessary. Falcon's cameo was a highlight though. Took me back to TWS.
Skipping... probably a lot (like I said, still processing), things started shaping up at the docks, though the pacing went off a little at the same time. Loved Klaue. Andy Serkis was great. Wanda giving visions to the team was cool. Cap's was so sad, Widow's was really interesting. Have to agree with those saying Thor's was weird... Least interesting out of the three. Hate that they bothered to explore that later. The Hulk rampage was sudden, though the fight with Stark was engaging. Funnily enough I could follow it more than a lot of the other action scenes.
Them heading to the farm-- yeah, I sort of take back what I said before. Here is where I could totally follow. Have to say, the transition from their encounter with Ultron and the twins to the farm worked a lot better than I read. I could see that they were in shock, almost damaged. Made sense that they needed to lay low. Looked odd on paper, but I get it now. Meeting Clint's family was sweet. Seeing him with Laura provided great insight. Cute to see the kids getting along with Nat. Speaking of however, I felt she was very much OOC during her exchange with Bruce. Didn't like that at all. Would have loved if Cap and Tony's argument lasted longer, and not just to set up Civil War. It felt chopped actually.
Now if I remember correctly, the Korea sequence came next. The twins switching sides felt sudden as hell. Was expecting to see a bit more of their relationship with Ultron. Paired with him, it really just goes Ultron escaping Stark Tower and joining up with the two, them engaging the Avengers together and then the twins ditching him here. Oh well. As for the fight, This is where we see Cap back in TWS action. LOVED it. I like how they put him against Ultron but showed him getting his ass blasted fairly easy. No, Ultron did not look weak here.
Then back at Stark Tower with Vision... Great scene. Though disappointing in that, IMO, we got more insight into Vision in those few minutes than I had hoped for with the twins in the hour that already passed. Vision picking up Mjolnir was hilarious. Bunch of people behind me actually gasped.
Then, the Sokovia finale. Loved Clint fighting off the drones. So badass. Same with Cap, Thor and Quicksilver. Vision's one-on-ones with Ultron were fantastic. Forming that circle to protect the device... LORD. Then Thor, Iron Man and Vision beaming Ultron. So cool. SHIELD showing up was a very uplifting moment. But Pietro... Ah man. Like I said before, was hoping for a lot more from him (and Wanda), but doesn't meant I didn't enjoy his character. Performance, everything. They just needed more screen time. Shame. And again... Bunch of other stuff occurring to which I can't recall, so that concludes my finale memory. Lol.
The new Avengers base... Not sure how I feel about it. Don't like that it's practically set up as another SHIELD station. Not how it should be. They can't be one entity, takes away from both IMO.
Tony leaving was fine, wasn't much to compare [to IM3] for me. It was a subtle retirement. He could easily come back again and I won't be complaining. The new team was pretty exciting. Fun way to end the film.
Overall it was... Man, I don't want to say disappointing. Too strong of a word, and on top of the fact that it's still a good movie that left my wanting MORE (and more and more and more...). My main issue was the pacing. It's so weird though. All the scenes were fleshed out, but they still moved along too fast? If that makes any sense? Damn you Whedon for balance. Favourite characters? Probably Cap, Thor and Vision. Disappointed about Quicksilver. Like I said before, he just needed more screen time. No problem with him otherwise, but I know haters will be quick to dismiss him anyway. Wanda needed the same as well, though that's obviously what we'll get moving forward. Olsen was terrific.
I'd score 8/10. Again, it left me wanting so much more Marvel. Oddly enough it left a bigger impression than TWS and Guardians. I think it was pointed out in a previous page, but this being one of if not the most comic book-y CBMs probably had a hand in that.
