Ah, so the pirated copies have been censored. The gag reel is all around, so I assumed that was what they were talking about. It's too early to legitimately complain about the DVD/BR since we're talking about stolen copies. Once I get my copy I will be suitably be outraged.

Disney/Marvel might have considered the scene too graphic, though you would have thought that would have occurred to them before the film was released. Sometimes films are altered to suit retailers, too, though I've only heard of that happening in the US with Wal-Mart.

Ill never get Disney's logic when it comes to censoring things like that considering on the stuff that they allowed to be shown when it came to the violence level for the Pirates films.

reading about the deleted scene for cap's intro makes me really hope for an extended cut. there was probably at on of stuff like this edited out for pacing and time, it is a long movie as it is already, but i know that true fanatics wouldn't mind sitting through a 3-hour cut.

    It's pretty disturbing.

NO ONE complained about that scene or their children having seen it...so where do they even get the idea that it needs to be removed at all?

Is there a single guy sitting in the board room going "You know...I bet that spear scene might have scarred some kids. They were probably so scarred, they didn't even mention it to their parents...so their parents couldn't even complain about it...HAVE IT REMOVED!!!"

So for anyone interested and I'm aware this probably goes to show I've had way too much time on my hands, but for the past couple months (when I've had some down time/was bored) I went through (a less than stellar - not exactly legal - downloaded copy of) the movie and came up with a rough estimate of the number of lines of the main players and a few of the side characters.

Note: I didn't feel comfortable considering a 'line' a sentence because there are incomplete sentences (if someone interrupts) there are single word lines, there are multiple sentence chunks that I just didn't feel like they should be 'broken up', etc... so I opted to define a "line" as anywhere from a single word of dialogue to an entire chunk of dialogue so long as there was no significant and/or scene breaking action that occurred during/after it (so, for example, Loki's entire thing to Widow starting with the "Can you wipe out that much red?" to the end of it when he calls her the not so nice word, I constituted as a 'line') I know, probably not fair since some characters do have huge chunks that probably should've been broken up into smaller 'lines' - but this is how it worked out with my initial run through.

If anyone has better suggestions on how to more accurately count, I'm open to them. Once the DVD/Blu-Ray comes out, I might revisit it and clean it up a bit. That, or I might leave it as it is. Again, this is just approximate, there are some scenes where people are talking over each other (i.e. the argument in the lab) that made it difficult to tell exactly who was talking.

    From most lines to least:

    • STARK/IRON MAN: 166
    • ROGERS/CAP: 127
    • NICK FURY: 115
    • NATASHA/BLACK WIDOW: 99
    • BANNER/HULK: 80
    • LOKI: 70
    • THOR: 51
    • PHIL COULSON: 50
    • BARTON/HAWKEYE: 41
    • PEPPER POTTS: 30
    • MARIA HILL: 28
    • WORLD SECURITY COUNCIL: 19
    • ERIC SELVIG: 18
    • JARVIS: 12
    • THE OTHER: 8

Again, for anyone who was in any way curious about those types of numbers. Feel free to mock me now :oldrazz:

You won't hear any mockery from me. Back when I ran a soap opera forum we used to keep close track of how many episodes each character appeared in and how much screen time they got. Considering that the shows aired five days a week, we were a lot more obsessive about keeping track than you are. :word:

That is actually very interesting. It's obvious that Clint and Thor got short shrift, but seeing the numbers puts that into perspective. Hawkeye is one of my favorites, so I hope that he gets a much more prominent role next time out. For someone so closely connected to the villain of the piece, Thor was sort of neglected. Maybe there could have been more about his reaction to Loki's rampage, though Hemsworth did a fine job of showing how hurt and angry Thor was even without much dialogue.

I've got the 1080p rip myself. There was a BIG difference in the file size between the 720p and 1080p files. The 720p was around 7.3 GB, while the 1080p is 16.38 GB. I just can't believe that they took the spear tip out. I mean, if you hadn't seen the movie (which I'm pretty sure everyone and their mamma did), then you wouldn't know any different. I'm just not understanding the logic behind that decision at all. I mean in the end, it has no bearing on the way the movie plays out or anything. Oh and xeno000, this is the final version of the movie. It's a direct rip of the Blu Ray that will be released next month.

Well, the MAIN reason I started this little project was simply because a couple months ago a particular troll over on IMDB was really pissing me off with saying that Thor had "only 6 lines" in the entire movie. The scene between him and Loki on the mountain alone proved the troll wrong (not that they ever admitted being wrong, do trolls ever?), but it made me deeply curious as to the actual count (or in the case of how it ended up going, the approximate counts) so I figured, what the hell?

And yeah, when I finally finished up the count this morning, it kind of broke my heart to see that Hawkeye didn't even have as many lines as Coulson (as awesome as Coulson is). I think that realization is one reason why I wouldn't have minded that Loki/Hawkeye deleted scene being reintegrated into the movie.

Too CAP heavy then. They tried making the film equal throughout. Having the scenes at the beginning with Steve made it seem avengers was from HIS view.

It would have worked you know. Plus it would've been accurate to the original comic "The Avengers # 4 - Captain America lives again."

The sequence really address Steve's theme of being "A Man out of Time".

I watched a Bluray rip. The actual Bluray is too much to handle for my current laptop so I download and watch, then buy several Bluray copies to make up for it.

Odd question but can anyone think of a female equivalent to Mark Ruffalo? Early 40's, never really been in a big budget film type of actress.
