Avengers Doomsday General News and Discussion Thread

Smart money is on Doom having a Dark Avengers and the OGs return as evil versions. Doctor Doom. Hydra Cap. Evil Widow is maybe Viper. Hulk is maybe Maestro. Etc.

Fair point... the second sentence though just seems like a PR spin. We haven't heard about those other Disney projects or Marvel project she'd produce, right?
It's not. At least one of the projects she were announced before the lawsuit.

She's also an executive producer on Thunderbolts as well and both her and Feige mentioned last year that she was still involved on another Marvel project. Now whether it still happens is a whole other matter.

Ah, hadn't realized she's credited as an EP on Thunderbolts*

I guess Old Man Cap is still around post Endgame. Could very well be the 616 Rogers that Evans returns to play and it would make sense for the Russos to pick up on threads from their biggest hit.

He may cameo as old Cap, but he will get young at some point. But I am still very much banking on he is Hydra Cap in some form of Dark Avengers.

Maybe; but that seems the more gimmicky route, and I’d hope for the inverse (main role Old Man Cap, cameo Hydra Cap). I just think there’s way more story to tell with an old Steve Rogers, saddling for up for another fight with end-of-world stakes:

If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could.

And plus, it’ll keep more of the emotional weight intact as he faces against enemy with the face of his friend. I hated in D&W that Hugh Jackman was just a random variant Logan.

The stunt casting of RDJ as Doom isn't an accident, and the addition of Evans I don't see as one either. We can argue what might carry more emotional weight, but if good storytelling was the driving force of this movie, Dr Doom wouldn't be a walking gimmick. So I would keep your expectations in check. This entire movie is going to be a gimmick

Evans is probably going to be an alt-Tony Stark or something similarly silly.

I genuinely think the original Kang Dynasty was designed for the new avengers to take over and Secret Wars was gonna be the return of all the classic actors/characters and they had to pivot. Not just because of the Majors problem, but also because of a lack of interest in the brand.
They're taking the safest route by bringing everyone back, even the Russos.

The initial plan of Marvel Studios imo, were a bit all over the place anyway. Young Avengers/New Avengers also feel like discount Avengers.

Ideally, Black Panther and Captain Marvel should have filled the void of Captain America and Iron Man as the leads of the MCU for phase 4 and 5 and heading up a new Avengers team. Especially as we were transitioning to the Fantastic Four and the X-Men coming into the MCU.

But we had no Avengers team or movies to ground things, and everything was all over the place. The only thing they tried to build up was Kang, and that blew up in Disney's face.

In other words, this film will likely need to make a billion in order to turn a profit. I can't imagine Chris Evans being a cheap to get either.

Also, am I the only one that really isn't excited for this film? The miscast of RDJ as Dr. Doom to now Chris Evans returning as well. While I miss both of their iconic characters, I feel like it sort of cheapens their exits by having them come back like this. Don't even get me started on the other fundamental issues with RDJ being Dr. Doom.

Plus, unlike Infinity War and Endgame, there's been no real buildup to this event. This film's lineup screams desperation from Marvel Studios if you ask me. If MS thinks that having a bunch of legacy actors pop up on the same screen will have the same emotional weight as the Portals scene from Endgame, then they're in for a rude awakening.

Dr. Strange, Carol, T'Challa, Ant-Man, Hulk, Thor, Spidey and Shang-Chi would have been a fine line up for an Avengers 4, if it was coming out 3 to 4 years after Endgame.

And I think they could have introduced F4 much earlier, instead of launching a one-off movie for Black Widow, Eternals, Captain America legacy movie and Thunderbolts*.

They didn't get the FF rights until the tail end of 2019. So they couldn't start work on it until that date, and from scratch it would have been a 3 year turnaround for the project if it didn't have delays such as writer strikes or a pandemic or creatives leaving the project. Which FF saw all 3. So no, they couldn't have.

Hopefully he'll look a lot better than he did in the comics:

I can't at Agent Carter coming back for her 10th mcu film?! There are surely more important characters out there.
