Avengers: Doomsday General News & Discussion Thread

I've rewatched Winter Soldier and Civil War a couple of nights ago and it really was Marvel Studios at its peak. Both writing and direction top notch. So many layers, so well executed. Fingers crossed for Doomsday.

I'm really curious if there will be no more delays for these two Avengers movies. I hope its going to be smooth sailing for them.

Filming 12 to 13 months before the Doomsday is out, doesn't give me a lot of confidence, as I fear it would rush the post production especially the visual effects.

They did the same for IW and largely it looked fine. It has some bad shots like that one Banner floating head in the Hulkbuster, but largely it looked fine

So how about those leaked concept art images?
So, people online who say they have read John Hickman‘s Secret Wars say that a lot of this concept is basically just straight up from that comic, which has me really excited because I’ve heard that graphic novel is pretty well regarded among comic book fans as one of the best events ever written in comics history.

I’m really loving what the concept art potentially suggests here what we could end up getting. All of the Hulks on what I assume in a world/reality comprised entirely by Hulks. Peter Quill with White Vision. Peter Quill with Wong and all of the Young Avengers/Champions. Doom on a throne in a castle ruling over everyone else in a medieval type setting with Doctor Strange and what looks like Yelena possibly as his lackeys and Reed Richards in chains kneeling. A lot of really interesting and cool character pairings and situations.

I saw someone online suggest that what if Avengers: Doomsday basically just starts out with reality already having been changed, and someone has to figure out and learn what is going on, and Secret Wars is basically everyone coming together to defeat Doom and aspects of different realities combined into one whole reality as a sort of “rebooting“ of the entire universe. No wonder the Russo Bros. said that they were taking an exciting and radical approach with these films. They’re really going for it.

Honestly, I was pretty lukewarm towards this, but this actually gets me excited if they manage to pull it off. Granted, this is concept art, and a lot of this is subject to change or be left on the cutting room floor, but the fact they’re even considering any of this has reignited my interest.

I'm not familiar with any of the comic book storylines but whatever they do this is the type of change I need for the MCU right now. It reminds me of the Thor: Ragnarok vibe where they went completely nuts with the designs and the tone, and the five-year gap in Endgame where you didn't know how much had changed.
Is this idea of taking characters we know and putting them in different contexts and combinations that I'm really looking forward to.

Definitely intriguing. There'll be a lot of characters to juggle, based on who appears. But then again, Infinity War managed to make it work without any problem, even when groups of heroes were in separate places and never crossed paths.

Don't get me wrong- I like the Portals scene in Endgame and seeing the heroes all come together in a great crowd-pleasing moment, but I just think Infinity War is the better movie. So it will be interesting to see how the Russos try to capture lightning in a bottle again. Especially since we haven't had much really building to these upcoming Avengers movies. Not yet, anyway.

I’m surprised at how out-there the concepts are, but definitely intrigued. Getting more excited for this; though I wonder who is chained up in last piece of art? Maybe Molecule Man?

The general consensus on the Internet is that it's Johnny Storm, whose pyrokinetic powers are somehow being suppressed under a cascade of flowing water. If you were referring to the other one with Emperor Doom, that's Reed.

The art of the various Hulks in medieval setting is so exciting!! Very glad to see Hulk & She Hulk have a bit of focus in this.

It feels like White Vision might become a part of the Avengers family/team after seeing the art chilling out with Quill. That is great for me as Vision was otherwise an additional loss beyond 3 of the big original Avengers.

Doom on the throne looks amazing. I’m interested in seeing the Strange variant and Yelena (maybe other Thunderbolts) working for him. Also Sue Storm’s forcefield effects look cool in concept. It feels like she could be a pivotal character in this story and in the MCU at large.

Oh and serious hype after seeing the new Black Panther!!

I can only hope the films deliver on at least some of the potential suggested in these concept arts.

At least the Russos have shown that juggling very large groups of characters is something they can do well. In other hands this or IW/EG would be riskier projects as it’s a legit very hard thing to balance and get right, way beyond the scope of normal superhero films.

I'm not gonna search for these leaked concept arts, as I fear it would just confuse me.

It looks like Downy signed on to play Doom a year before the announcement, and before the Russo brothers signed on to direct.

Doom's backstory, according to RDJ's notes and research:

Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist...dictator.

I hope the teaser poster will look similar to the first poster of the previous Avengers movies. A big A.

I'm a bit surprised they haven't killed more characters in phase 4 and 5. The MCU is really quite crowded at this point. But I also think wiping a lot of them in Doomsday and Secret Wars for good (no resurrection), would be a bit too much.
