Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event

I'm interested in this, but tbh, why do these big events keep happening? There are too many too often. Spider-Island was great though.

It's looking like it's Scott's team against the Avengers.

What I'd like to know is, does it involve all the X-teams as well as all the Avengers teams in this epic battle? And it does seemed strange that Wolverine, the poster child of X-Men, would actually be fighting against his fellow X-Men on the side of The Avengers.

Man! if superheroes spent less time fightning each other than maybe they have a telethon to help cure the hulk and the thing! Haha

You know, given the fact the Scarlet Witch, along with Hope, is supposed to a key player in this, and that the Phoenix Force has now been shown, courtesy of Marvel Point One, of being capable of destroying and recreating worlds, I don't think I'm alone in thinking that Marvel seems to be gearing up for a Crisis/Zero Hour reset/reconfiguration of their entire continuity with this event. After all, in the same upcoming year, Marvel is also putting out OGN which are essentially retelling and expanding the origins of the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men, and Daredevil, and whose to say those wouldn't be officially turned into the new "year one" stories for those characters? Not to mention that given the reception of DC's New 52 and looking at their own 50 or so years worth of continuity, maybe Marvel feels there needs to be some housecleaning and renovation work on "the house of ideas."

So who's even on the X-Men team these days anyway? Or the Avengers?

Are they actually going to have limited rosters on this or will it just be a 100 character cameofest? I just can't get into books that insist on having a million characters.

For the X-men, the main action will most likely be limited to the Extinction team with tie-ins focusing on the other lineups

Good GOD, Marvel does not need a reboot! All they need is coherent storytelling and all will be well.

DC didn't need a reboot....any of the times they did it. But they did it anyway for the sales bumps.

Sure, they'll come up with a boos**t reason to do it, but ultimately if they did it, it would be for the money.

Wait, Spider-Man and Captain America want to deprive a super-powered person of their rights because that person can be a potential threat? Come on Marvel. What the hell.

I'm really curious as to how much of a "VS." this really this. Like will this be as vicious a dispute as Civil War? Or will this just be another one of those "misunderstanding" kind of fights?

I personally would love it if they leave the series off with the two sides still at odds with one another. I know they won't, they'll come up with some kind of cliched "We need to work together" moment, but I think it would be daring and innovative of them to just leave these two teams as enemies. I mean let's face it, these two teams have very little in common as far as objectives go.

Any speculation as to which characters will complete the roster for each team? I see Havok83 predicts the Extinction line up for X-Men. What about the Avengers? Will they use the "Avengers Assemble" line up plus Red Hulk and Spider-man?

I get the vibe that this is going to be somewhere between "Civil War" and "Schism". There is an ideological divide which will lead to some violence, but some kind of amicable ending will probably be forced (Hope will make the choice herself, lecture people, maybe blow something up, I don't know).

So we're going to take Hope from the X-Men because she's going to be too powerful but Franklin Richards is ok cause he's with Reed?

Even I can't justify this.

Since when has Marvel let internal consistency get in the way of making a crappy big event story?

Hope's a mutant. :o

(I know Franklin is too, but Hope's one of the dirty terrorist muties.)

Yeah, Franklin, what did logic ever do to you? :argh:

Won't Ben Grimm / Avenger have a problem with the Avengers going in and taking a mutant child away from her family?

I'm just saying.

There is a shark somewhere that just got jumped.

Or, more accurately, a fridge that was nuked.

I agree with the preceding posts that this is probably going to push forward a reboot. And, as tired as the idea has been proven (in addition to being plagued with continuity and logic problems,) I will still read it anyway, because I always enjoy a versus tale, whether on celluloid or comics. It helps balance my diet (sometimes, a cheeseburger is welcomed, instead of a five star meal.)

In addition, I hope that they do not overload the releases with tie-ins. If I may modify the terms established by a good author, tie-ins should be treated like dandelions.

Also, they should restrict the "big events" to every few years. It becomes a bit tiring after a while.

I think Cap just got fed up with those terrorist muties living on Utopia. The Extinction team and letting Magneto join were one thing , but giving a mutie the power of a god was the last straw.

Do you really think the Avengers can contend with the genius of lil Valeria ?:awesome:

I think the Avengers and X-Men fighting will be more interesting this time around. Considering Scott's attitude lately and the fact that the runt took half the team back to New York , he won't appreciate another mutant being taken from his care if he can help it.
