I don't suppose there's anyone here besides me that can admit to having bad credit?

This is what happens when a broke man gets a credit card.

I gave my ex bad credit, does that count?

Dont let bad credit keep you down!!!

Atleast that's what the guy on the used car commercials says

Actually, I have good credit now. But about six years ago it was less than fair due to debt generated from six different cards (yes, I was displaying dumbassery at its finest). Now that all of that is cleared away I'm all good.

I currently only have ONE credit card now.

I didn't have any credit until a few years ago...no credit card, loan....nothing....but I have good credit now.....

I was lucky. My folks taught me how to handle my money well. I have EXCELLENT credit because I've made extra effort throughout my life to keep my spending in check and pay off loans and credit cards as fast as possible. My general rule of thumb is to not buy anything unless I have the cash for it to back it up. The exceptions of course are things like house, cars, medical needs, etc.

Rule 1 - Use only 1 card.
Rule 2 - Pay it off every month, if you can't pay it off, put the card in the freezer until you have paid it off

Yes, I have poor credit due to making mistakes in college with credit cards, I think I already told you about it. Just have to rebuild it over time is all. It didn't affect my getting the corporate job or the apartment, only because I deemed myself trustworthy to both parties.

Can't they take you to jail for unpaid credit card bills, or is that student loans?

I don't really have "bad" credit, but its not good either. I've only got 2 things on my credit so far, a credit card and a jewelry store line of credit, which is what I started with. Now, I'm currently in a battle with said jewelry store because they reported to the credit bureau that I was 60 days delinquent, which is a load of crap. So, after they fix that, I'll have decent credit.

There is no "debtor's prison." All they can do is demand you pay them and attempt to set up an arrangement to do so. They can take you to court if they want to do so, which would cost them more than the amount you probably owe, go figure.

Not really, because all you have to do is file for bankruptcy. With government issued student loans, they just take the money out of your paycheck anyway. Its basically just like having extra taxes taken out so its not that big of a deal.

I got my first card around the time I lost my first job, and I long used it at the ATM, I didn't really buy any good stuff; except for a Gil Hibben Jackal knife.

When my mom found out I had a credit card, after it ran out, she told me that I could have bought myself a new computer.

I won't even ask what a brotha is doing buying a knife.

I have a strict personal policy of using my credit card once a month. No more. If a month passes and I don't use it at all, I say hallelujah.

The only exception would be if some bizzare, life threatening emergency came up.

my credit is slowly recovering from 4 years of bad choices.

unless your from texas where they can only garnish wages for child support and alimony. :)

I try to only use my credit cards when they have deals, as a replacement for cash or ATM. For example, for the next few months I get 5% back on gas. So, instead of paying normally, I use my card to get the cash back, then pay off the card before the graceperiod ends (so I don't get an APR charge).

It really nice for paying bills. My friend gets 2% back on all purchases. So he pays his bills (pretty much everything except mortgage) with his card. That way he only has to pay 98% of his bills. Imagine what he could save if they'd let him pay his mortage with his card.

I did build up a lot of credit debt to pay of family medical expenses. So I love balance transfer offers (the best reason to have a few cards.)

When they release the life size Willow Real Doll, call me. :o

I stupidly let my sister use my credit card. She didn't pay it off every month, ended up owing more than she initially used it for by double, and eventually when I found out I had to use my overdraft to pay it off for her.

And now I have a bad credit rating. Which sucks.
