Trying to bag and board my comics (Have a ton that aren't).

Was wondering what's the best price/site to get them at?

Try a comic shop. I'm sure they'll have them in bulk.

Due to the weight of the boards, it's very difficult to find a website that will send them to you at a discount that won't be off set by the shipping cost.

Personally, a couple of years ago when my LCS was getting ready to order another bulk of them from their suppliers, I spoke to the manager and he ordered an extra thousand B&Bs just for me and gave me a little extra discount off it. I saved a couple bucks off the normal discount I got on supplies when I buy 100 at a time, he made a bulk sale, and I didn't drain his supply since he was making the order anyway.

I think I've done that two or three times now, each about a year apart. At the time, I had a lot of unprotected comics waiting to be bagged, and then I was left with extras to handle the new comics I bought for the next several months, so I wouldn't accumulate too many more unbagged issues.

I dunno if this'll work for you, it depends on how many comics you have waiting to bag, and how many you buy a month going into the future, and if your LCS guy is willing to have a similar arrangement with you. Given that 100 B&Bs are about $15, give or take and depending on what discount you have, a thousand would be $150, minus whatever extra might get shaved off for the bulk order. So it's somewhere under a $150 investment, and I dunno if you're tight on cash or anything. Generally, if you want the best discount on anything, you'll get a good one by buying in bulk. If you like your comics bagged and boarded, you'll want to get these eventually anyway, and you can save a few bucks by getting a lot of them sooner. But, like I said, depends how many you have waiting, and how much you buy regularly.

Or you could just quit bagging and boarding them and spend the money you spend on bags and boards to by more comics. That's what I started doing a couple years ago and have been happy with it ever since. (except for one small incident with a candle dripping on some comics but I learned my lesson then).

My comic shop bags and boards for me when I buy new ones. Most back issues are already bagged and boarded. So if I get a rare on not bagged and boarded it doesn't take long to do it. I got a few extra from the shop.

I have to get short boxes more than bags/boards.

:thing: :doom: :thing:

Hmmm I have no clue as to how many comics I have to board. It's less then a thousand for sure. I would say 600 or so comics that I want boarded. Most likely less then that.

I want to get my comics bagged and boarded as soon as possible.

Do you know of any websites? Midtown comics were selling them for about 10 bags and boards for 3 dollars. So you believe I would be better off just getting them instore due to the weight for shipping and handling?

Thanks.

That's 100 for $30, which is hugely expensive and a rip-off. They're probably pre-assembled, but even so, my LCS sells pre-assembled bags and boards for 25 cents, or $25 for 100. Buying the 100 packs of unassembled is about $13, plus $1.50 or whatever for a roll of tape, and the cost of your time to assemble.

Some stores are like Franklin Richards' and will give you a free bag, or bag and board, with every normal priced comic you buy, but I don't know how common those are, there may not be one that does that within a hundred miles of you.

But the point is, Midtown's 10 bags for $3 is a rip

Yeah, but like I said, any extras you've left over after you've finished bagging your back stock can be used for all the comics you'll buy in the future. The surplus would last you over a year, then every time you finish reading your weekly comics, you can B&B them right away.

I remember when you came to this revelation. Personally I just stopped buying titles that weren't important enough for me to bag :D
