I was just watching TDKR where Bane and Batman are fighting in the 3rd act and I never noticed before how fast Bane was throwing punches. Granted he was swinging with some serious adrenaline after Batman disconnected his mask so that could've had a lot to do with the quickness of jabs. I'm not entirely knowledgeable on Banes true strength. But what is behind his strength? I've never got a true definition of what the mask is for and does it play a part in his strength?

He never had peace, so it never cost him his strength.

Main reason would be working out hard. The mask kept his pain under control - so if it becomes broken, he begins to hurt. Thus lashing out like a hit of venom in the comics.
