Does it still Hold up today?

Now I admit, I'm 18 (born 1990) so I lack knowledge on just how good this music was for the time...

But I've recently been listening to it and while I enjoy alot of it... I would often question 'songs' such as 'Bat-dance', that made no.1.

It definitely feels old to me... but for those that did experience it fresh, I ask the above question.

I was born in 1989, but I'll answer nonetheless.

They feel dated, sure, but they're classics. This is coming from someone who isn't even a Prince fan. "Party Man" is pretty much Jack Nicholson's theme song! So you can see why it would remain iconic even to this day.

Scandalous is my personal favorite.

Certainly still reminds me of how crazy Batmania was in 1989!

I still look on BatDance with fond memories, mainly cos of the use of the quotes from the film ("This town needs an enema...")....lol

The album is a PURE MASTERPIECE!!

But could the album and subsequent singles be released into todays charts and still be successful?

Define what you mean by 'PURE MASTERPIECE' (at the time, for all time, or just forever in your eyes).

If it was released today, it might be successful on the basis that it would sound retro/quaint.

So many great tracks.....

- Electric Chair
- The Arms of Orion
- Partyman
- Trust
- Lemon Crush
- Vicki Waiting

Okay, so six great tracks.

Review and critique the soundtrack all you want... But my question was,

For you personally... Does it still hold up today?

For example... Would it get people my age (18) out onto the dance floor the way ABBA songs still would?

I don't think Prince's songs are particularly great, Elfman's score is what I consider the true Batman 1989 music.

Scandalous? A pretty cheesy ballad, not good at all as a love theme. The Future? Not bad but not stand out.

However, certain tracks work as the "Joker's voice", namely
- Partyman
- Trust
and work in the film.

You must've missed this...

MASTERPIECE FOREVER!!!!

But to be honest those singles wouldnt mesh with todays music, so theres no way they could be as successful as they were when released obviously music has evolved alot since then.

"Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds.....Lawrence!".....

If it were released today I'd bump it cause while it's not Prince's best album it's still quality a quality pop/funk concept album. Prince is no Rick James but he has held it down many times with some good albums.

What the hell does "Ducky, I'm gonna put the 7" in the computer" mean?

I like this album, but it's not Prince's best. I doubt it would connect with modern audiences. I've seen younger people "jam out" to other Prince songs such as "P Control" from I think The Gold Experience and stuff from the early 80's, though.

Anyway, in it's time BATMAN was considered a flawed effort from Prince, but serviceable and danceable all the same. "Scandelous" is the only true classic, but there were many singles released that became hits, and the album over all holds up as a decent pop record and iconic soundtrack for the movie.

Prince is more versatile than Rick James, though. But yeah, out of Prince's insane catalogue, BATMAN is not usually high on anyone's list. Sign O' The Times, Purple Rain, Around the World in 80 Days, Musicology, Prince and the New Power Generation are the best to me.

I still bump Partyman everytime I got to a bar with an internet jukebox, I sure get some weird looks lemme tell ya when Im doin my Jack's Joker dance to it.

The Prince soundtrack is cheesy as hell, but I'll listen to it whenever I need a good laugh.

I think that people may feel the same way. It holds up as a nostalgic kind of thing, but nothing more than that.

(Haha, now I'm thinking about that scene from Shaun of the Dead. :D )

If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes OHH

Funny how this is one of Prince's most popular albums yet it's also the one that he doesn't like to talk about.
