Forget Batman 3 for a second. We know it'll happen.

After Batman 3, they should make another film that takes place 20 years into the future, a lose adaptation of TDK:R and have a new and older cast. It could be a stand alone but in the same universe. So Alfred is dead, and the gangs follow Batman, the Joker (now released), Two-Face (had been presumed dead) and maybe Black Mask (?). Introduce Dick Grayson (Nolan always said that Wayne was still too young) the same way the female Robin was introduced in TDK:R, only have him be around 16 and one of the main guys in the gang Batman is taking on at the time. Barbara Gordon could lend her father and Batman a hand in one of the last scenes, foreshadowing her role as Batman. This way it could be considered a sequel, will bring in Robin, hint at Batgirl, and bring back the Joker (they'd be forced to recast him due to age anyways) but it could also be a standalone film.

Are you guys going to add to the conversation in anyway or are you just going to troll?

I think if/when Nolan does number 3 they should go in a different direction. But I certainly don't have the energy to think about that now. There's one more Nolan film to worry about.

I'm saying this one doesn't necessarily have to be with Nolan. It could be with Snyder even. It should be standalone but also a sequel like TMNT and Superman Returns

I think at this point only a fool would bet against Nolan returning for number 3. What they do with the franchise after that is anyone's guess. In an ideal world WB would try something radically different. Sadly, the studio mantra is - 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', so maybe they'll stick with the realism thing. Which is fine for Nolan, brilliant in fact, but Batman can be perceived many different ways...

I'd love, in parallel with the current Batman franchise, a standalone 18 certificated (R rated) movie that was just a gruesome, sick off-shoot of the franchise not in continuity, with a different cast and it's own story. It would be kind of be an elseworlds comic, or a standalone graphic novel.

Something of a cross between photography and graphic art - like Sin City but only in full colour.

It'd have full reign to be as sick, bloody and twisted as it liked.

Joker cutting smiles into victim's faces.
Bloody, guts and guns.

Also, because and to further underline the fact that its not in continuity, it could be a bit less realistic, more fantastical, a little bit closer to the comics. Because it would be so sick, bloody and definitively adult, I think the audience would find it easier to accept 'silly' or 'outlandish' villains or costumes. It would also add to the surreality.

Begone troll. This is a non cannon film that you COULD consider to be apart of the mythos but would have a new cast and new tone.

Maybe not for a fourth movie ,but aI definetly want a movie of DKR or based on DKR in the future.

Begone troll.

This actually made me laugh.

So it's like Superman Returns, then.

I say no....I'd like to see Batman explored a few more movies before we get TDKR, and to not confuse the audience too much.

Yeah like Superman Returns or TMNT. Essentially it's stand alone and on it's own, but the viewer could consider it a sequel and still have it fit (story-wise)

And then you find out the girl is actually Batman's lost child to a fat and decaying Catwoman.

Though protoctista's manner may have been abrasive, he was not trolling. This is seriously something some of you need to come to grips with. In the world of Nolan Batman, Harvey Dent is through. he lived. he died. There was a funeral. There is no man in the iron mask chicanery afoot with Gordon at the helm. Why would you even want that? I am disappointed as any to not get to see full fledged mastermind two face. but he's dead, and i being a rational, logical adult can accept. Confirmed by Eckhart from the mouth of Nolan.I understand emotional investment in this stuff, and needing to believe certain things to get through the day( people keep telling me theres three godfather films, i am only aware of two), but honestly, have some dignity.

wait! forget batman 4! lets talk about batman 12! it takes places a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

Did you even read the first post?! When I say Batman 4 I don't actually mean it to be a sequel to the sequel of TDK, I mean it to be the next Batman film they make once they finish Nolan's trilogy... It should be like SR. It's a STAND ALONE.

I never want to see the Dark Knight Returns adapted.

Also I don't want Batman 4 to be some Superman Return's like sequel.
