Batman Arkham Asylum: Teaser Villain Trailer

I just realised that even though I'm psyched for the game, I really don't like most of the character designs. It seems like a bland inbetween style with the comics and recent Nolan movies. I just loathe Harley's look, to me it's awful and really rather sexist. Joker's dark red extendo-lips aren't doing it for me, and neither is Gordon, who by all rights is fit to be a wrestler.

i like the designs. its kind of a best of mix: comics, tas, and nolanverse.

my worry is gameplay

Same here. It looks like Splinter Cell a bit, and if it is, then I'll be more then happy with the gameplay.

Here's hoping for the best.:word:

This looks like it could be the best 3D Batman game ever...

okay that's not THAT hard, but you get the point.

The looks are fine, imo. I think the people who made this game WANTED a mix of the comics, TAS and Nolan's franchise. That's why Batman is a mix and why they changed Joker up a bit to have the mesh of all three.

Harley Quinn, I'll give it to you, that she does look a bit "****ty". But then again, she doesn't normally look like that since she did ask Batman if he liked her new threads. So she doesn't normally dress like a nurse, only for this "event" though.

Let's count the panty shots from Harley =P

I wont lie, hearing Arleen has the voice was some relief to me. I knew she was doing the voice but it adds, ya know? I still HATE Harley's look but i'd like to costume it. Costume wise I love it but on Harl? Ickk... They buffed up her height and weight too. I wanna know how the hell she can flip in that corset...Also, why they changed her colors=/
Still, I can't wait for the game and as soon as I get to a store, I'm pre-ordering it. ^_^

Willfully trapped in an abusive relationship with a maniac and bowing to his every whim, Harley has never exactly been a model of female empowerment.

Sexism and a portrayal of an abusive relationship are two different things. Sexism is a biased favouring of one gender over the other, an abusive relationship on the other hand actually has themes to it, and normally has the victim as far more human and likable than the other. There is a difference between being trapped in such a relationship and being sexed up with "jiggle physics" for drooling net fanboys. I'm not looking forward to seeing Poison Ivy to be frank.

What I'm saying is that Harley Quinn, essentially, is a toy for the Joker. Or fancies herself one. For me, the look makes sense as an extension of that.

Naturally, it's going to carry over to the male fantasies of the viewers/gamers as well. That's the (unfortunate or not) truth of comic book fem fatales. They're all sex symbols. The majority of readership is young males; the creators are just catering to taste. As far as Harley goes, artists have definitely increased her cup size by 100% since her introduction into the mainstream DC Universe, but I don't think the sex appeal was ever not there. Bruce Timm himself has drawn Harley (and Ivy - sometimes together!) in some pretty risque poses.

As far as the Joker/Harley relationship, that's a discussion for another day. I don't think it's ever been written with particular care given to the honesties of abuse. Occasionally Harley grows a backbone and goes solo, but at the end of the day she always returns to Joker's side, with no serious incite and commentary to that vicious cycle. And that's probably because they know the reader/viewership doesn't want it. Harley is a light and frothy character; the majority of fans don't want to dwell on the sad truths of her character. The saddest part is, and I suppose I'm part of the problem as a fan of the duo (but screw it, it's entertainment!) is that the relationship is romanticized by most fans, especially female fans.

Could she have stolen bits and pieces of her new look from the arkham nurses? Hence the reason she looks like a nurse. Unless you want her to wear orange overalls :oldrazz:.

So there was a list of the voice cast on Arkham Asylum's wikipedia page, which looked like an actual list, but it was taken down.

And it is still saying Oracle is in this.

So I finally got to play a demo of Batman Arkham Asylum. It was one of the combat challenge levels. Didn't get to play any of the predatory stuff. Just the combat. From my first impression, honestly I think it stinks. That's right it stinks...

...OF AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!

Man, it was one of the most awesome games I've ever played. Definitley the best Batman game. Whoever said the combat is designed to make you "feel powerful" from the get go was right. I felt like a total badass as Batman, beating the everloving crap out of thugs and inmates.

It just has this really organic flow to the combat but it's also very methodical. Batman's fighting plays off like the BB and TDK's methodical dismantaling of thugs but it's more brutal than that. And there is some added aerobics. Actually, it reminds me a lot of the Batman Begins videogame, but with a MUCH BETTER controll scheme and MUCH SMOOTHER gameplay. I was very impressed with what I had.

In fact getting my hands on the game reminded me of when I first saw that clip of TDK when Batman went crashing through that skyscraper window in Hong Kong and proceeded to go to town on Lau's men. I was just screaming in my head "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! This is so AWESOME!" That's pretty much how I felt when I was playing that demo. I absolutely can't wait until the game comes out.

Another awesome trailer.

But who is the other big dude? With the deformed body and what not.

Its definatly a regular thug in venom for now, we still have no confirmation of Amygdala in this game.
