Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 2

I'd be shocked yet not surprised if Reeves left. Movie already lost it's best director though

Wait, what? Why are people thinking Reeves might bail?

Kind of seems WB might have learned their lesson by now, wouldn't surprise me if they're more than willing to just let him do his thing without interfering at this point.
I think people are just getting a bit spooked that there's been nothing but radio silence for months, and the movie isn't dated at all. Couple that with WB's issue with "creative differences" with directors on DCEU films over the last few years.

Yeah, fair enough. It does seem early days yet though - guess it's always a possibility of a director change, just kind of have a gut feeling it won't happen here though. The DC guys seem to genuinely be eating a bit of humble pie lately, seem open to re-evaluating and re-directing, and Matt does sort of seem the tip of the spear on all of that.

Just get the sense he's in for the long haul, and DC's putting quite a few eggs in this particular basket. Might be ignorant optimism on my part, but it just seems that's the way this is going.

To be fair, the majority of people had a similar thinking after BvS came out.

Then Suicide Squad.

Then Justice League.

I don't even know if WB learning their lesson is even possible by this point.

Also, to throw my two cents into the mix on Villeneuve, Villeneuve as the director of a Batman movie is kinda like Daniel Day-Lewis (even when you disregard his retirement) as Alfred. As shown by the movies he does, he's probably not that interested in superhero stuff.

His recent statement that he doesn’t want to do a superhero film is also a pretty good indication.

Ok so Denis is out. I'd rather see him make movies away from that sandbox anyway. I don't think I'm going to get a Batman anytime soon with any of my favorite directors, so I'll just have to settle with the competent Hollywood directors like Reeves. Fede Alvarez was on the shortlist too before Reeves. After his next film, I wouldn't mind seeing him tackle this or the sequel.

It always makes me chuckle when someone throws DDL's name into casting pools. It's like, do you really think that guy's gonna do a superhero film? :funny:

Ryan Gosling or Jake Gyllenhaal or Armie Hammer

Hahaha Armie's Hammer can keep being average while the big boys show the fanboys how it's done.

Yeah Hammer’s a decent enough actor but for some reason, the thought of him as Batman is just so meh.

Ehh, shrug-worthy as Hammer is, I'd have taken that JL Mortal movie over what we've been getting starting with Man Of Steel anyday.

It's gotta be Jake Gyllenhaal or Ryan Gosling or a complete unknown.

Gosling definitely isn't my top pick, but like anyone else, I'd give him a chance.

For me, it's either Jake or Jon Hamm. Especially the latter if at all possible.

Why Hamm? Maybe if it was 10 years ago or if he was cast for B v S, he would have worked. He's late 40's and though a good actor, he doesn't have the range like a Gyllenhaal or Gosling.

In terms of Hamm's age? Eh, if Tom Cruise can still be doing Mission Impossible at nearly 60, I don't see why Hamm can't be Batman for at least a good while. I also don't see why an older Batman would necessarily be a bad thing other than the possible risk of the actor backing out earlier than intended. I'm not talking TDKR Batman here, I'm more talking about New Earth Batman in terms of age and longevity. While Affleck (arguably) did TDKR Batman really well, I believe Jon Hamm can do New Earth Batman really well. (Gyllenhaal being my pick for a more Prime Earth age Batman).

While I don't necessarily disagree that Hamm doesn't have as much acting range as Gyllenhaal or Gosling, that doesn't matter too much in terms of whether or not he can portray a specific character as your acting range more just dictates what parts you can portray throughout your career and how different they can be. This is discussing if he can do a single part well (Batman). And I believe that Hamm can play the specific part of Bruce Wayne, hell I believe he can do it and do it really goddamn well.
