Batman Elimination Game: Best Bat-Family Story
After a getting slightly longer round in #21, I've gone back to the lab to wreak more havoc. This round brings notable stories in the Batman universe that focus on the other kevlar-wearing, rooftop jumping, ass kicking vigilantes that have found their way into our hearts and wallets (or purses, man-purses, billfolds, mattresses or wherever you keep your money ).
Basic Rules: You subtract one point from a story you don't like and add a point onto another story that you do like, until (much like the number of movies you actually pay to see before sneaking into others) there is only one. You can only post once in 60 minutes, meaning every 60 minutes you can vote to give everyone a chance.
After leeching off the neural synapses of others for the last few rounds, this stroke of genius was brought to you by yours truly. Keep the applause to a minimum and donations to a maximum. :meow:
Guys, please be careful with your posts. These games are subject to getting off track with missed tallies due to simple error. After your post, please check that it accurately reflects what you wanted and that no other post came through before you were able to submit yours. Also, if you see an error has been made, feel free to call attention to it or correct it yourself with another post. Thanx.
Shall we dance? (and yes, I know it's not Tuesday).
Batgirl: A Knight Alone
Stripped of her ability to sense an opponent's next move, Batgirl continues her quest to regain her former battle prowess and more importantly, her confidence. But as Batgirl struggles to recapture her fighting capabilities, the deadly Lady Shiva returns to Gotham with her usual agenda of finding a worthy foe and challenging them to a deathmatch. Now in her weakest state, Batgirl must face her toughest rival with her life as the price of failure. And even if she is lucky enough to escape her encounter with the lethal Shiva will she be able to stay out of the grasp of the government agency that has targeted her to become one of their own?
Batgirl: Silent Running
After helping Batman during Gotham's darkest hours, Cassandra Cain was quickly accepted as the new Batgirl. But now as Gotham resurrects itself, Cassandra must deal with her own inner demons. Trained from early childhood by a notorious assassin, Batgirl has the uncanny ability to sense her opponents' movements before they happen. With this advantage, she is unbeatable. But when an attempt to "fix" Batgirl's inability to speak robs her of this sixth sense, she finds herself training with a crippled Barbara Gordon, the original Batgirl, as she fights to regain her former prowess and live up to the expectations of Batman.
Batgirl: Year One
A look into the action-packed origin of the original Batgirl, Barbara Gordon! This story follows Babs' transformation from average citizen into costumed super-heroine. Too short to get into the police academy and too small for the FBI, Barbara is frustrated at being hemmed in by institutional rules that can't adequately measure the strength of her tremendous spirit. She sets out to make her own way in the world, finding a way where none seemingly exists: in the shadow of the mysterious Batman.
Batman: Prodigal
When Bruce Wayne leaves Gotham for personal reasons, Dick Grayson, the original Robin, is called upon to take the role of Batman. Putting on the legendary costume, Dick works side by side with the current Boy Wonder to defend Gotham from the everyday thugs and eccentric villains who prey upon the city. Gaining a greater appreciation for the responsibility and pressure that Bruce bears, the former sidekick proves without a doubt that he is up to the task of being the Dark Knight Detective. But when the maniacal Two-Face returns, the new Batman must overcome his childhood demons in order to defeat the first villain who he ever faced and failed against as a costumed vigilante years ago.
Birds of Prey: Of Like Minds
This story, guest-starring Nightwing and Batgirl, shakes things up for Oracle, Black Canary and Huntress. In a tricky legal and ethical dilemma, the Birds show mercy to a would-be white collar criminal, but their act of compassion brings them to the attention of master extortionist (and one-time super-hero) Savant, a man who claims he can outthink Oracle and outfight the Canary...and can prove it!
Catwoman: The Dark End of the Street
For years, Selina Kyle has prowled the skyline of Gotham City as its most famous thief, Catwoman. But when word spreads of Catwoman's demise, Selina decides to leave the costumed world behind and continue her trade cloaked in the shadows. Unable to enjoy her newfound anonymity for too long though, Selina decides that she must return to her infamous persona. Donning a new costume and attitude, Catwoman returns to the streets and sets her sights on the serial killer that has been preying upon the streetwalkers she calls friends.
Catwoman: Selina's Big Score
In this fast-paced, cinematic adventure, Catwoman learns that like anything else in life, loyalty has its price. Presumed dead and without any cash, Catwoman must find a way to make a quick score to set herself up in Gotham again. Learning of a train loaded with unmarked cash headed to Canada, the sultry cat burglar gathers some old friends and devises a plan. But when one of her former allies sells her out to the mob, Catwoman's simple train robbery becomes a desperate gambit for survival.
Catwoman: When In Rome
This story chronicles Catwoman's mysterious trip to Italy and her dealings with the deadly Falcone crime family. It's an incredible tale of Gotham's sexiest cat burglar, guest-starring Batman and a host of Gotham's most colorful and dangerous villains!
Huntress: Cry For Blood
After the Huntress, a vigilante with extreme methods, finally earns the approval of Batman, a mafia capo is suddenly discovered murdered by a crossbow, her weapon of choice. Now as Helena Bertinelli, aided by the mysterious Question, attempts to evade Batman and his allies, she must also prove her innocence and determine who is trying to frame her. Through this adventure we discover how watching her father, a powerful mafia leader, and the rest of her family be murdered, transformed this innocent Catholic girl into a nocturnal figure of vengeance.
Nightwing: A Knight in Bludhaven
Growing up as Robin, the Boy Wonder, Dick Grayson fought crime alongside his mentor and father figure, Batman. But as the adolescent sidekick became an adult hero, he stepped out of the Dark Knight's shadow and took the idenity of Nightwing. In this fast paced and action packed adventure, Dick becomes the protector of Gotham's sister city, Blüdhaven, after Batman asks him to investigate the murder of twenty-one gangsters in the crime-ridden town. But as Nightwing begins his investigation, he soon learns that the police force is as corrupt as the city's criminals and that he is now a vigilante without friend or ally.
Nightwing: Year One
Learn the legendary history of Dick Grayson and his life after Batman fired him, as he gains advice from Superman, aids Deadman, and makes the decisions that lead him to become a new crimefighter!
Nightwing/Huntress
When an undercover cop is killed, apparently by a mob boss, the worlds of Nightwing and the Huntress collide. As the two heroes approach the policeman's brutal murder from very different angles - Nightwing looking for justice and the truth, Huntress looking for vengeance - they find that opposites really do attract.
Robin: A Hero Reborn
After being deemed worthy by Batman to become the new Robin, Tim Drake sets off for France to study specialized fighting techniques under an ancient master. But before long, Robin's training is sidetracked when he finds himself working together with a maverick DEA agent and a deadly female assassin in order to stop the modern day release of the Bubonic plague. Learning street fighting and martial arts from his new companions, Robin endures a baptism of fire as he discovers the danger of living a life based on anger and revenge.
Robin: Flying Solo
As the adolescent sidekick of Batman, Tim Drake has always followed the lead of his mentor without question. But when the Dynamic Duo has a falling out and Robin is banned from the Batcave, the Boy Wonder must forge his own path. Left alone to juggle the responsibilities of a personal life and a vigilante existence, Robin takes his first steps towards being an independent hero instead of a youthful sidekick. This coming of age super hero tale includes appearances by Batman, the Huntress, the Spoiler, Cluemaster, and the Electrocutioner.
Robin: Year One
After a young Dick Grayson's parents were murdered, millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne took the youth in as his ward and changed his life forever. Using his days in the circus as a trapeze artist as a basis for his education, Batman spent months training Dick in the ways of combat and crime fighting. This book presents Dick's baptism by fire as he dons the costume of Robin, the Boy Wonder for the first time and patrols the night by Batman's side. In his earliest adventures, Robin learns very quickly that what he thought would be fun is actually a matter of life and death.
Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood
After relocating to Blüdhaven, two of Gotham's youngest heroes, Tim Drake and Cassandra Cain, must face Nightwing's enemy Shrike and their old foe, the Penguin.
