I just got it and I'm gonna start reading tonight. I'm excited. The art is AMAZING! Tell me what you guys think of it.

Read it first then come to your own conclusion. Don't let us tamper with your opinion-formulating process. :cmad:

not a fan of lee's type of art.
otherwise the story just felt like an excuse to parade all of the major villains.

maybe i'm too cynical, but its one of many comics which feel like they were put together to make money and nothing else. Like a summer 'blockbuster' which despite all the hype is really just pretty average but has really good production values.

It actually was better in single issue, as the whole mystery was a great, year long thing that no one saw coming...but yeah, read it first, then we'll talk.

...all of Loebs stories feature tons of villains...are Long Halloween and Dark Victory just average blockbusters then too?

its not the villains that make it an average summer popcorn flick.

felt like there was a lit more to the story in LH and DV, so i could excuse the villain cameos. the villains became vital to the story in DV, so it worked. Hush isn't that good of a mystery either way.

... that and lee's artwork always reminds me of the 90s style superhero comic, which didn't impress me then and doesn't impress me now. its only my a personal taste, but he's just a bit too slick and shiny for me. Sale's work on LH and DV adds a touch of class to those two works, i like his toned-down coloring and inking style. comparing the artwork, Sale's LH and DV look more like low-key detective novels, but Lee's artwork is all about pizazz and flash, so I just can't look at it in the same way as I do Sale's.

Hush is my favorite.

Long halloween is ok. Dark Victory was better.

I've heard about an absolute edition. I presume it's expensive. Barring that, what is in it and what isn't? Does it have everything basically? What issues does it involve? What should be read before it? I did get a lot of TPBs once but stopped around 2000. So I'm behind. Lastly what year did they come out? Just curious.

The absolute edition has oversized pages of the issues themselves (2-3 times as big?) and it has special features--sketches, interviews, commentary. Like a special edition DVD.

It's because he pioneered the 90's blockbuster style. A lot of people took inspiration or copied him completely so his style was prevelant in the early 90's.

I'm vaguely familiar with the history of Image, and it could be worse (Liefeld).

the 90s blockbuster (or 'schumacher') style still is prevalent.
This bothers me.

Just keep in mind that we'll have something worse in the future.

I'm personally not a big fan of Hush, although I enjoyed Vol 2 much better than 1. Lee's style is a bit too flashy for Batman, IMO. I much prefer when Bats is shrouded in darkness, lurking in the shadows, rather than posing in bright shiny environments. Yes, his art is extremely detailed, but I just don't think it's appropriate for Batman. The story also isn't my favourite, but the ending was pretty good and worth the ride. Then again, I much prefer to see Batman closer to the beginning of his career, before he was surrounded by sidekicks and using weird enemy-sensitive-poison-gas-spewing-cowl-vents.

And a mystery killer/figure, too. Seems to be his formula for long running stories with Batman.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed Hush. The Joker's issue was my favourite.

Thanks. :)

Do you know anything else? Can you recommend it?

I haven't read it so that's why I was asking. ;)

I also thought Hush was overrated. There were some good moments, some good plot points, and the art was really good but it just seemed to be this meandering story that really didn't go very far in terms of scale, and even though the art was good, it still can't touch Ross' work.
And there were actually a few parts I really wish they would have just not put in there, like the fight scene between Bats and Clark, where they take a whole page to state that essentially Clark is a good person and Bruce is not.
That not only makes no sense, but its insulting to everything thats Batman.
If deep down Batman were not a good person, he would be a villain. And yet, he's not. And he never will be.
So, overall, yeah its worth reading, but I won't ever feel the urge to buy it.

HUSH ultimately isn't a very great Batman comic. But it does manage to be an entertaining read with some lovely artwork.

I really liked the Hush story arc, and love Hush himself as a villian. Lee's artwork is, i think, some of the best Batman artwork and Loeb writes very good Batman, although the writing isnt as good as in the Long Halloween or Dark Victory, i perfer the Artwork in Hush to Tim Sales work in those other Loeb stories. The use of so many Villians is always a factor in Loeb stories, a factor that i love. With so many villians factoring into the story, you can be almost sure that your favourite of Batman's enemies will come along at some point in the story.
Overall i realy liked the Hush story arc and would recommend it to anyone wanting to read Batman.

He definitely needs to expand his options as a writer. He keeps recycling the same old story. TLH was good, DV slightly better but pretty much identical to TLH, then he does it a third time with Hush. Redundancy ftw.

Loeb's writing just annoys me.

I liked the art, but I found the story to be mediocre.
