BvS Batman/Superman Pushed Back to 2016 - Part 1

The Pan movie will more than likely shift over to the old Ant-Man date. WB won't put a possible tentpole against a Marvel movie

Will that? Peter Pan has far more audience recognition than Ant-Man.

That didn't help the last movie from bombing at the box office. And it was a much more faithful adaptation. Ant-Man isn't an established brand but Marvel Studios is and they're gonna do a nonstop job of letting people know about AM

To be fair the last Peter Pan didn't have Jackman playing Blackbeard.
That alone will fill seats.

Oh no doubt it'll fill seats. Hell, I'm super excited to see it especially since it's a prequel with an original story. But WB have better sense than to put what they're hoping is their next new franchise out on the same weekend as a Marvel movie. They'll do the smart thing and move it back a few weeks. It just makes better business sense.

Yeah, I get that. Though it is Ant Man...it's going to be a hard sell IMO. If Guardians does well than I think it has a chance. Marvels dipping into the unknowns now, it's questionable if they will pay off without the GA having some knowledge of who they are.

Im excited as heck to see what Wright is going to do with a big budget.

The main reason I have faith in Marvel Studios is they have everything to lose by one major misstep. I don't see them taking risks with characters/films that they feel they can't sell. If they're making a movie, with solid talent signed on, it's gotta be good

Certainly less known than the others but did the GA really know much about Marvel Thor? At some point the differences between heroes become negligible in this context.

Pretty much. They're selling the Marvel Studios/Avengers brand much more than the x-character name. And it's already proven to work.

They kind of have to take risks though. Their main characters are owned by other studios.
Being good at the BO isn't the same as being a good film though. IM2?

No, they probably didn't know the details of Thor but the name and image were universally recognizable. Ant Man however...
Don't get me wrong once I saw the test footage for Ant Man I was sold but before that I questioned it...and that's knowing who the character is.

I just want a good marvel villian besides Loki! If there's one thing dc triumphs in its vilians.

It seems clear to me WB are going a different route with Pan, on top of that I don't care how well established the Marvel brand is, Ant-Man is not even close to being on the same level of audience familiarity as Peter Pan so that is going to be an uphill battle. You throw in that Jackman is involved with Pan and all of a sudden it's looking like a far more even race.

Yes, Thor is known from the mythology but judging from people I know (highly anecdotal but it's all I got) it can be a bit risky to go on that if you don't also have 'Marvel' and 'superheroes' in mind when you see it. The Marvel brand is much stronger now and if Age of Ultron delivers I think Ant-Man will be in a pretty good position, despite it's apparent disadvantages.

It's a shame that Green Lantern flopped since I would have liked to see some more solo movies from DC that aren't Batman or Superman. I haven't read much The Flash at all but I would have liked to see him get a movie before JLA.

Iron Man wwasn't well known back then too. But they did it and now he is as famous if not more than superman.

GL lost me when they went so juvenile with the ring light. I need more creativity this time. No big fists!

This argument doesn't hold water because with all do respect to Paul Rudd, he is not Robert Downey Jr.

I think someone is making an argument that Marvel will make Ant-Man an A-List tier character.

It happened with Iron Man and sort of with Cap and Thor (I think Hemsworth is more famous than the character).

No no it spurned from some offiside discussion that let me to say that WB will probably take Ant-Man's old release date now that Marvel moved it to the same weekend as Pan. My opinion is that WB execs know it's too risky to open any new franchise on the same weekend as a Marvel movie when there's an open slot two weekends after it

Paul Rudd is starring in Ant Man alongside Michael Douglas

The argument was that Iron Man is an example of what can happen with a new character. Where that argument fails is that it was the actor who was the draw not the character.

Err RDJ was not a box office draw until after IM came out. Rudd has much more star.power now than RDJ did in 2008
