Alright well for my 18th birthday I've decided that I'm gonna fly out to LA (I live in NY) to get my first tattoo by the one-and-only Kat Von D. Now I've been a Batman fan my whole life and I really want the Bat symbol to go from my acromial to my olecranal (Shoulder to back of elbow. Sorry I have to learn how to memorize the latin terms of the body for Anatomy and Physiology).
Anyway, personally I love the Begins symbol and that's my first choice. But whenever I tell anyone that I'm doing this they say, "Why the Begins one?"

I love the Begins symbol because it's sharp, sleek and simple, and it looks ****ing kickass. But other people have been telling me to get the Batman and Robin symbol. They think it's the 'coolest' looking one, but I don't want to associate my body with the B & R symbol.

So anyway, I know ultimately it's my decision because it's going on my body, but what do you guys think I should get?

If you have your own choices, throw them here.

I love the 89' logo, but I think if I were getting one I would get the begins logo tattoo

I like the Oval '64/'89 Batman logo.

It's just classic. And essentially is the logo most people still associate with Batman. In contrast to the Superman S logo, it definately works.

The Begins logo, although very cool as well, is one that may or may not become dated at some point in time depending on if the current Batman series of films burns out after Nolan decides he's said what he had to say with Batman. Of course right now it's the logo for the current Batman films. But that very well might not be the case 10-15 years down the line. And that's something to consider ...

Get the Begins one.
It's sleek, it's sharp, it's modern

the classic oval is wa too cheesy for today. Sure it's the most recognizable but it's outdated. The Begins symbol is timeless so 60 years from now, it'll still look good.

And don't even get the B&R one because that's the worst bat symbol ever made.

The BEGINS one only works on a flat surface. Your arm would be too shapely, it would screw it up. The oval symbol works better for a shoulder.

Get the oval one. To me, that is theBatman emblem.

I can't tell you which one to go with, but if it were me, I'd go with the Begins one. When I think of Bale saying the words, "something elemental, something terrifying," it just screams the Begins symbol.

'89 symbol is great and all, but it feels very much like a logo. The Begins symbol seems more organic and natural.

That's a good point.

And it's not going on my shoulder it's going like between my bicept and tricept.

Go for the Oval. The Begins one has no personality or originality.

Pick one, I have high res pics if you need 'em.

A side note:

I was gonna get a Batman tattoo as well for my 21st down in Vegas.

I'm getting this baby on my shoulder:

sans background and lightning...just the silhouette of Batman ;)

But back to topic, and as far as symbols go:

-- The 89 one is cool.

i really dont like the added two spikes on the 89 now that i think about it

id go with the batman begins logo.
when you get older the gold in the 89bm the color might change

whats the go with those extra spikes anyway? If it was a copyright issue how did they get it right for all the advertising material??

I just turned 18 about 3 months ago, and for my birthday I got a mug, a first aid kit, and pair of scissors. Crappiest birthday ever.

I kid you not. :csad:

Yeah I was thinking the same. And I have dark skin, so the gold won't look all that good to begin with.

dude, first of all, just want to say that I got a Batman tattoo finished a few weeks ago, and I ****ing love it, so I'm not trying to piss on your plans or anything, but seriously, you're wasting a trip to LA and more specifically you'd be wasting an appointment with a ****ing awesome tattooist on something that almost any tattooist can do a good job of, especially in NY.

I could give you the names of a few artists in NY who you could trust to do a great job.

Another idea might be to get a decent artist to do their own style/version of the symbol, which would mean you'd get the symbolism and this great ****ing logo that everyone will see and love, but it will still be very individual to you. (this isn't what I did, I had a pic from TKJ copied straight onto my arm)

If you're planning on going to LA anyway, then definitely go for it, but don't expect to get on LA Ink, 'cos you got to fill in a form (with an essay) about the "story" behind your tattoo and all that stuff.

That's a great idea (about the artists' take on the symbol), but if I don't like it, do I get charged for their drawing?
