I did this tournament two years ago and a lot of the posters seemed to have fun with it. Back then it included all adaptations through the end of 2010. This years tournament will include all theatrical releases through the end of 2012. The winner of the previous tournament is The Dark Knight. The Avengers. I appreciate how important X-Men was in reviving the genre, but the first film doesn't really hold up outside of the lead performances (McKellen, Stewart, and Jackman in particular). The plot and action are just too bare, and most of the real character development is saved for the sequel. X-Men serves as little more than an introduction to the concept and characters. The Avengers is a great spectacle the likes of which X-Men can't touch.
