Peter Berg in Talks to Direct Battleship
Source: The Hollywood Reporter May 18, 2009

The Hollywood Reporter says that Peter Berg (Hancock) is in talks to direct a big-screen version of the Hasbro game "Battleship" for Universal Pictures.

Brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber have signed on to write the script.

The game consists of two players arranging a variety of ships on a grid. The game proceeds in alternating salvos as players try to "sink" the opposition's ships by guessing where they sit on the grid.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the studio is looking to make an epic naval action adventure.

i guess they pretty much have complete freedom... the game had 0 story lol

never liked the game... 100% pure luck.
and subs are boring lol

It could actually be a satirical parody of war movies...
A modern... HOT SHOTS if you will...

Best part would be if not one character says, "You sank my battle ship"
How is that for a curve ball?

How many movies is Peter Berg attached to right now? Is Dune in development hell or something? I can't think of any reason why a guy who is set to direct a project of that scale would be considering something as ludicrous as a Battleship movie.

The line "You sunk my battleship" must be worked into the movie somehow.

I think that this movie might work if they make it a big joke. Two armies at sea, blindly shooting torpedoes and hoping they hit something.

No, it should totally be a revenge flick.

Rogue Captain Two ***** a weapon, points it at Rogue Captain One.

ROGUE CAPTAIN ONE
Why?

ROGUE CAPTAIN TWO
You sunk my battleship.

BLAM!

What's next a "Monopoly" movie directed by Ridley Scott, oh, wait...

A Candy Land movie? Touche.

I want to see Battle****s, played by two hot british schoolgirls personally.

This was made by MB in 1943, so making it as a period piece definitely works.

COMING SOON to theater:
tetris
THE SIMS
HUNGER HIPPOS
AND GUESS WHO?

Universal Sets Battleship for July 1, 2011

Source:Variety
September 15, 2009

Universal Pictures has set a July 1, 2011 for the Peter Berg-directed Battleship, a live-action adaptation of Hasbro's board game.

Variety says the deal is part of a two-picture pact Berg has made with the studio, where he'll follow Battleship with the Afghan war drama Lone Survivor.

The Battleship script was written by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber. Production is scheduled to begin next spring.

Berg called the film "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle."

Other projects in development for Berg, including Dune and Hancock 2, will come later.

Other Hasbro adaptations in the works at Universal include Stretch Armstrong (April 11, 2011) with Steve Oedekerk, Clue with Gore Verbinski, Monopoly with Ridley Scott, Candy Land with Kevin Lima and Ouija with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.

I was skeptical, but I love the pics, especially the one above. This could be cool.

Haha, interesting.

Man reading the Latinoreview report was great.
Aliens vs the Navy ,ILM doing the VFX.
Yeah as long as they don't screw it up with MTV editing/shakey cam , this could be awesome :woot:

Yeah, a big NO on shaky cam. That would F it up.

I like the fact that the studios are leaving it to the creative team. Not sure what the budget it. I read 100 mil on oct, and now 150 mill in dec. Not sure if they got extra cash or a misreporting.

A little bit. I think we're going to do some sequences 3-D.

Does this mean we would have to take off the 3D and then put them on? I don't want to go through that.

A movie of this scale with a budget of 100 mil ?
No way . That's way to low unless they're blue screen-shootin' this movie , which they aren't.

The 150 million number sounds plausible ...i mean Hancock cost 150 mil.

From what PB said about needing to film in australia because the babewatch tanks aren't big enough to sink battleships, sounds like it will be an expensive movie.

The Hawaii Film Studio’s 96,000-gallon water tank - built for the Baywatch Hawaii television series – is too small for Battleship’s needs and not functioning. “They need something large enough to sink battleships,” a source quipped. “But we knew that Australia would be the location for the tank shoot before we ever scouted here”

BTW: I think the babewatch tanks are a good size. :hehe:
