I'm trying to beat through Mario Sunshine before starting Galaxy. I'm not trying to get all 120 stars, but I'm just trying to get through the main game.

I've got 61 stars and I'm wondering, what all am I supposed to do to get through the main game. Am I supposed to have a certain number of stars for a certain level in order to trigger something?

just like mario 64 you have to collect a certain amount of stars to trigger an event

go to http://guides.ign.com/guides/16713/page_5.html if you need a little hint to figure amount how many shine sprites are needed to progress. unfortunately for me my disc broke while moving so i cant play any more :)

Damn, that sucks....I guess...heh, maybe you didn't like the game anyway.

This game is ticking me off right now.. @ Sirena Beach

I beat this game so long ago. I do kinda miss it. But...it was fairly easy to beat the game...I nearly got all the stars...but then gave up. The last boss fight was way too easy to me

I got about 4 stars then quit...I just couldnt get into it...after Galaxy I'm gonna give it another shot I think.

Yeah, the game is 85% easy and 15% Frustratingly Irritating!

The most annoying parts of the game are those big-Retro 3D platforming stages with a sprite at the end. They're such a pain solely due to the camera getting in the way.

But, I'm at Corona Mountain now, on my way to Bowser. I think I have about 67 sprites now and I think I'll give it up after this.

I think Mario Sunshine gets a bad rap, sure it wasn't one of the best Mario games, but it still wasn't bad. Much like great TV franchises, a bad Mario game is still better than most stuff out there.

Super Mario Sunshine is still a good game. Just the camera really hinders it...a lot.

I don't even think I got a single star before giving up. I didn't like it because of that tacked on water gimmick, that just didn't do it for me. As well as being on the world/island with those stupid ass fat tree headed things.

lol. I don't believe in gimmicks when it comes to video games. Either it's a good game or it's not.

I thought the entire anti-pollution thing was a little bit too Sonic the Hedgehog for a Mario game myself...let Sonic fight the evil guy who's destroying the enviroment, Mario should be about having fun and stop there...

no i like it but......i guess i'll have to just wait until i get some cash to buy the game again.......at least i still have the memory card with the data for it

i got stuck on the chomping chains level.....died every single time.....

lol. I bought and sold the game about three times over the course of 4 years. Each time I wanted to play, I got frustrated and tired and sold it. :p

I'm selling it for the last time, but I wanted to make absolutely sure that I finished it once and for all and I did about an hour ago.. :D

if you guys don't like Sunshine, what makes you think Galaxy is any better??

I played it for hte first few levels and never touched it again

just cause one game in a series is bad doesnt mean the company wont learn from it's mistakes...and I dont think Sunshine was BAD per say, just not close to the level of greatness Super Mario 64 was.

And Galaxy is better than 64, btw...

I think people like Galaxy much better because it's closer to the traditional Mario. It has the familiar characters that Sunshine didn't. It's also changed the gameplay, Sunshine was really just like Mario 64 with the water cannon as a new gimmick.

To beat Sunshine you have to get the 7th star on every single level. My biggest beef with Sunshine is that it was waaay to linear. Still had fun with it, though. Just not as much as I had with 64, or am having with Galaxy.

64 was like being the first person to climb mount everest........
sunshine was like being the 8th......its an impresive feat but not as amazing the first time around.

i liked sunshine.......and the water.........the prettiest video game water i havve ever seen to this day. damn the gamecube was a beast under that purple, cute, and lunchbox shaped exterior:)

To me Sunshine was harder than galaxy. Some of those levels seemed impossible to me....but Galaxy was wayyy too easy

Sadly, I agree. I'm only 30 stars in at this point but, while Galaxy is a far superior game in all other respects, it's way too easy. During every single boss battle so far I keep thinking "oh wow, this is going to be amazing!" and I get ready for long, frustratingly awesome fight and.... It's over in like 15 seconds. One thing I was really sad about during the level where you first fight Bowser, I took one look at that level and said to myself "Holy crap... this is just like those awesome isometric boss levels from SM64... this is going to be awesome!" but yet it took like 30 seconds to make it through the whole lever :(

I know they're trying to make it so even non-gamers can get into the game, but couldn't they have at least offered an advanced difficulty option?

i'm sorry, Super Mario Galaxy may be current game with better graphics and better gameplay, but it's no way better in "quality" that Super Mario 64

So, far, after getting 48 stars, Galaxy is still not all that great, i mean, i really like it, but the fact that Mario in space, on galaxies................ it's not that great and boring, and there is a certain lack of exploration that Mario 64/ Sunshine had
